Lyle McDonald wrote in the Ketogenic Diet book that 5 grams of carbs immediately pre workout is adequate to restore blood sugar levels to normal. While this makes sense on one hand, 5 grams of carbs is nearly nothing...

Is 5 grams really enough? I'm thinkig about 5 grams of dextrose and 5 grams of BCAAs immediately pre-workout just to make sure my blood sugar is normalized (I am slightly hypoglycemic).

My pre workout meal is as much as 4 hours prior to my workout so my blood sugar may be slightly below normal at this point.

I saw that as well. It does seem low, but he knows his stuff. On my HIIT mornings, I do a very small apple (maybe 10g carbs or so) and a little juice in my BCAA's (not a color/sweetener fan). I have great energy until the end of the session.
