Like I said in that other thread.

The military spending is one of the few things the government should be spending loads of money on. We shouldn't be looking to reduce it's funding.

I'll probably vote for "Just Enough". Though I wouldn't be mad if they raised it. I just don't want to see it lowered like it was during Clinton's days.

Well, if the US wasnt trying to be a worldwide military presence, we could greatly reduce spending, and still have a higher quality defense. The real question is: do we need more spending for worldwide imperialism, or for top quality defense of the country. We need more for the former...... if we spent enough to do this, it would bankrupt the country. We need far less for the latter.

you guys realize that we are wasting a lot of money in defense, right?

we could run a secure and efficient defense program under much less than we are now. everyone should vote "too much".

This is basically my opinion on the topic.

I don't have the numbers to substantiate this claim, but I think we are spending A LOT of money on things we will never see any benefits from. The Wars, Blackwater, private contractors, missile defense systesm overseas etc. Also, I think we are probably not spending enough on things we could see great benefits from both militarily and domestically.

Unfortunately this will fall on the next president's lap as the Bushies wipe their hands clean.

Absolutely too much. We are currently engaged in one fruitless war (Iraq) and one war which we didn't commit to at the level we should have (Afghanistan) which is making it a prolonged war of attrition much like Vietnam only on a much smaller scale since people aren't being brought back over in bodybags by the truckload. We have an unnecessarily large presence in other countries around the world. We could cut back on all of this and send troops to where we are being invaded on our own homeland: the Mexican border. We could use the military to keep our home borders much better regulated while still drastically reducing the budget.

Maybe im mistaken, but I think the question is not do you believe in this war, but do you believe our Department of Defense is efficient. My stance? I voted too much. I think we have our priorities right under the present conditions(war) but we are extremely inefficient.

How many of those people do you suspect will enact a military assault on the United States?

Nobody, because of our military being so powerful...which, in turn, is due to the amount of money we spend on our military.

And while nobody can enact a military assault on our soil, we can still be attacked like in 9/11. Then what do we have to do? Fight with our military, which many people want to reduce funding for. Reduce funding for military, less people join, draft becomes more possible.

& Don't forget, when you say military...it's not just the grunts. It's the intelligence field as well. You want to reduce our military intelligence budget?

Do you think that military spending is going to prevent a terrorist attack like 9/11 again?

Are you operating on the assumption that a terrorist attack will happen again and we will go...where? Iran? Afganistan? Pakistan? Looking at how well we did in Iraq with our powerful, well funded military, how well do you think those theaters are going to go?

If we could stop quit defending other countries, and focus on our own, we wouldn't need to increase it. Let some European countries step in.

We spend so much protecting other's asses, yet there is hardly any appreciation.

Nope. We are a free nation that keep the Icelands of the world from rolling over nations like yours. Hell...even Sweden is better than you guys at hockey, and that is supposed to be what you guys are good at.

LOL at not reducing 10 billion a month in Iraq when you're already 10 trillion in the hole...
Guess we need an economic 101 session in this thread

The defence budget is a waste of money. The 500 Billion they waste to kill people could be used for so much better things, Free College educations, healthcare, investment in alternative energies and medical treatments..etc...

(No Socialist)

Unfortuanately, war has become a big business and if war around the world stopped, the global economy would crash.

Are you retarded or joking? We won in womens in 2006, and while we didn't do well in the mens division we've dominated the hockey world going back 60 years.

"Unfortunately" if we didn't have a (non-zero) defense budget, freedom would not exist. :(

The Swedes and even the Americans produce at least as good a crop of hockey players as the Kanadians do. Quality...not quantity. Sorry.

This is a non-issue. I feel, and most people do also, that we need to have good defense and protect our country.

But our meddling in other countries' affairs like we have has created some very hostile enemies abroad.

Our military is beyond the levels necessary to protect our country. Unfortunately no country can have the ridiculous foreign policies that we have with a small military.

No; I am perfectly sane and enjoying your pathetic attempt to compete with the big kids. Sorry but you still are of an inferior country. Maybe if you cross the border to Buffalo or Detroit you could beg your way onto the waiting list for immigration.

Don't get your hopes up.

As a military member I think security and defense is an expensive thing and we do have to be willing to spend a lot of money but having said that I believe there is a lot of wasteful spending within the military and anywhere. For example, when we go to get new things like furniture for things on base they will just throw the old stuff in the trash when it is in perfectly good shape. Now this kind of wastefullness pissed me off. Another is when we get funding for bases and stuff they are required to use the full budget or risk losing funding which in turn causes them to use unnecessary money on bull****. This is something I see that I dislike and should be done different. As for money spent on the military I think it is efficient and should be done for our security but I do believe it should be used more efficiently. Not wastefully as I have seen. A lot of these things aren't even looked at by congress and I believe it would save the taxpayers money if they would pay attention to how the money provided is spent instead of just handing it over and say here do what you want with it.
