I always thought basmati rice fell into the white rice category but apparently it has a medium G.I and is acceptable if your eating healthy. I always loved it but was reluctant to eat it unless its on cheat meals, but now i guess i can eat a lil more.

Both are relatively low GI (for rice). The GI of rice is not very dependent on the processing - much more dependent of the type of rice. Hence many white rice are lower GI than many brown rice.

Jasmine rice for instance, which looks somewhat similar to basmati is high GI. Brown or white.

The GI of rice depends largely on how long the grain is. Basamati is a long grain rice, so both white and brown are low GI. But................GI doesn't mean ****.
Eat the brown basamati.

Is that just b/c brown basmati has more vitamins and minerals?

Yeah, brown basmati would probably have some small vitamins and minerals and a tiny bit of fiber. But I've been eating white basmati my whole life, the stuff is great.

Yeah. If you really truly dislike the brown then go ahead and eat the white; it certainly won't make or break you. I like the brown better.

I love basmati rice, I used to eat it a lot, but cut back recently because I want less carbs in my diet.
