View Full Version : You're starting an NBA franchise...who'd you take?

Got this idea from the Magic/Heat game earlier today because I was SHOCKED that the announcers (although biased, since they are Magic guys) said they'd take Dwight Howard.

So the question is (again), who would you take if you were to start an NBA franchise?

Personally, I love Kobe...but I'd have to choose Lebron. I'm interested in what everyone else will have to say..

I'm taking Chris Paul. He's the best in the NBA right now at making his teammates better and plays with more heart/tenacity than anyone else. I love his mean streak too.

Oh, and Kobe doesn't have heart. Good, he led his team to the finals, he should have with the team they had. He choked in the finals just like he used to choke against the Suns and mope around about it. LeBron has done more with less. But I don't even know why we're discussing this.

You know nothing about basketball if you think Kobe doesnt have heart and that he choked in the finals. Typical Suns fan..

Are you bitter that your team had a chances to win a ring but they blew it? While Kobe and the Lakers are going to be near the top of the league for another run at titles? I think so.

lol, you're right. Kobe didn't blow a 3-1 series lead to the Suns (No Stoudemire, let me remind you) then mope around the floor during game 7. He didn't pull a huge extravaganza last summer. He never throws anyone under the bus. You're right, Kobe is full of "heart".

He's a primma donna and always has been, ever since he came in the league. Is he a great player? Of course, I think he's 1A to LeBron's 1B.

I ****ing love when people try to use my team against me in an argument. Am I mad the Suns front office blows balls? Why yes, yes I am. Does that have anything to do with the fact that Kobe hasn't won jack-****? Nope.

Kobe is a GREAT player and known for being a very clutch player, but he has never impressed me where it matters the most...the Finals. Shaq was the man for all three championships and the year that they lost to the Pistons Kobe didn't show me anything special and this year I realize that Boston plays great defense, but he wasn't able to step it up a notch the way that the greats are supposed to when it matters most. I know that Lebron didn't do anything special in the finals, but him and Dwayne Wade (yes I know only one ring and injuried alot) at least in my opinion have proven to be more clutch in the playoffs than Kobe.

Pau Gasol and Odom completely disapearing in the Finals had more to do with the Lakers losing than Kobe. And also DWade and Lebron played in the weak Eastern conference finals. Wade was given every single call imaginable in that Heat series and he also still had a very productive Shaq. How many finals games has Lebron won?

You're both on crack.

He's a poor man's Shawn Bradley on defense. IMO, the Rocket's are better without him. Get a defensive post presence, use Scola and Landry for offense down low and play a faster more up tempo game which the rest of the Rockets (minus Yao) are better suited to play.

lot's of teams blew 3-1 series int he past... do they "lack heart" too? You don't remember jordan talking **** about almost all his teammates and calling them useless? Does that make him "lack heart" too? I find it funny that you say this because Phil Jackson openly said that Kobe is the HARDEST working player he's EVER coached. Doesn't that take heart, to put your body through pain and practice to better yourself in the sport you love?

Doesn't it take heart to completely **** up your finger and NOT have surgery in order to play for the team? Doesn't it take HEART to **** up your finger and NOT have surgery so you can play on the USA Olympic team for no money and represent the greatest country in the world? Rethink what you're saying because Kobe has more "heart" than other players like Paul Pierce who refuse to even play for the USA team because they won't get any money out of it.

People just love to hate Kobe. Used to be cause of the MJ comparisons (he's said plenty of times, he's no MJ), then for supposedly running Shaq out of town (hindsight 20/20, Shaq really did only have 2 years left and was demanding a ton of money), then for the rape (uhh...sounded to me like this girl has been gangf*cked plenty of times and is a complete whore).

Lots of teams don't have their SUPERSTAR and ALL NBA PLAYER mope around the court in game 7, and that's exactly what he did. You can't even try to argue that he didn't. That's some grade A, low class, primma donna BS.

lol..what is Phil going to say? "No, although I'm coaching Kobe right now, and Jordan has been retired for half a decade, Kobe's work ethic is still subpar to Michael's." No, he's going to side with the guy he's working with now. And really, do you honestly believe Kobe works harder than Jordan did? I don't even know why I'm discussing this...once again a Kobe homer wants to bring up MJ.

lol...every single athlete puts themselves through practice and pain to get better. Go to your local high school, I bet they have morning workouts. Guarantee you'll see plenty of the hard work and HEART you speak of.

Why are we bringing other players into this, especially Paul Pierce...who just got done mopping the floor with Kobe. Pierce has heart, he just happens to apparently be a greedy mofo.

Your opinion is retarded. Yao is one of the best defensive center in the league. Every expert will tell you that.

The year before the Rockets got Yao, the team was dead last in defense: 29th. Yao's first year, the Rockets were 13th. The following years to this date, the Rockets have been no lower than 6th in defensive rating.

KD hasn't proven a thing in the league to warrant picking over LeBron

"HEAT" ...

LeBron had at best mediocre defense at age 23, Durant is already at a really high level. You need to compare 23 y/o KD and 23 y/o LeBron and you will see KD comes out on top.

Efficiency-wise its not even close:

KD: 49.6% FG, 38.7% 3p, 86% ft, 61% TS, 54.7% eFG
LB: 48.4% FG, 31.5% 3p, 71.2% FT, 56.8% TS, 51.8% eFG

LeBron, however, was a better playmakers than KD is at age 23. Whether this is due to LBJ being forced into it (because he had fuk all for a supporting cast) or because KD needs to hand off some plays to Westbrick and before that also Harden ... I don't know. But LBJ does create better plays and excelled early on in passing.

You need to compare 23 y/o KD and 23 y/o LeBron and you will see KD comes out on top.Its close, a case could be made either way. If stats are all that matter....Lebron put up 30/7/8 on over 48% shooting. Durant doesn't have better numbers as it is. You're vastly underrating Lebron's ability to generate chemistry and make other players perform at a high level night in night out.

People really liked CP3 lol.
Nothin wrong with Dwight picks, he lead a team to the finals and probably will a few more times.Whats wrong with that? He had a real case for MVP in 08' and many thought he deserved it over Kobe. His 08' season would fit right in line with some of Magics. Not saying he was at the time as good as Magic. Im saying that if Magic had the season Paul did people would(and do) use it for ammo in arguments that hes the best point of all time.
