After last night's debacle, I was trying to think of other instances where a team was laughed off the field/court...

'08 and '07 Ohio State Buckeyes
'04 New York Yankees
'04 Los Angeles Lakers

Cavs were obviously the inferior team, though. I'm talking instances where there were two relatively equal teams yet one humiliates the other.

The 72-10 Bulls? Who the hell thought the '98 Jazz were going to beat the greatest basketball of all time? For God's sake, Jeff Hornacek was a STARTER!

Then it's safe to say the Lakers are just as inferior. (serious)

Not really. The Lakers were the overwhelming favorites.

that was the 96 bulls that went 72-10

the 98 bulls had a worse record than the 98 jazz, and scottie pippen injured his back and was almost useless in that series.

Oh, my bad.

But still, who's going to pick against MICHAEL JORDAN in the NBA Finals? It's not like Kobe was leading the Bulls into battle, this was MICHAEL F**KING JORDAN!

id say the patriots loss was pretty embarassing. mostly because of all the **** their fan base talked, plus the spygate, and the 19-0 ****.

or when the yankees lost to the marlins in the world series.

Agree - the Patriots getting laughed out of Super Bowl XLII was fantastic.

And the Yankees losing a 3-0 lead to their hated rivals is FAR more embarassing than when Josh Beckett and the AAA Marlins humiliated them.

x2 The bulls actually had a terrible start to their season that year.

Off the record but i went to a bulls hawks game that year and it set the record for the largest crowd ever at an NBA game (doubt it still stands)

But that was the year that the bulls beat the Jazz 96 54. 54 being the worst point production in an NBA finals game ever.

How many people attended that game? Wasn't it at the Georgia Dome or some ****? Did they hold it there just for Jordan or for some other reason?

It was 65,000 or so... Yea it was in the Georgia Dome. I dont know do they not have all the Hawks games in there? Pippen didnt play in that game cuz he was hurt. But you almost couldnt see anything when Jordan got the ball because all the flash bulbs.

Probably not as famous, but during the Giants 2000 superbowl run, they absolutely crushed the minnesota vikings 41-0. I have never seen a professional team quit in the middle of teh game like the Vikings did.

I remember that, and then the Giants went out in the Super Bowl and got humiliated like 38-7, right?

Yeah I remember both games. Kerry Collins definitely ****ed the game up, he threw like 5 ints that game (But then again, the 2000 Baltimore D was pretty legendary)

In fairness to the patriots.Only lost 17-14 on a last minute td...I think the poster is referring to a game between two supposedly well matched teams where one team just doesn't show up and gets spanked....

Exactly what I was going to say. The Patriots lost in the closing seconds of the game they by no means got raped like the Lakers did last night. Sure they were big favorites but they by no means got destroyed in that game.

Yeah that was a rediculous game. I still remember it. To see a Jazz team that would have won the title in alot of other NBA seasons be totally dismantled in the NBA finals really showed how unstoppable the 90's Bullls were.

I know the patriots didn't get blown out by the giants, but losing the super bowl, when your one game away from basically being crowned as the greatest team of all time and having a 19-0 season, that takes the cake for me. May not be the most humiliating, but i think it's the biggest choke job in a championship game or series.

I just thought of one. Brazil Vs France world cup final 98'

Ronaldo has some sort of seizure before the game. They play him anyway. Brazil get raped 3-0 with Ronaldo like a ghost on the pitch.

Cause I'd say the Marlins beating the Cubs in 03? (was it?) Was pretty pathetic.

1999 Miami Heat vs. NY Knicks

Miami was the #1 seed against the Knicks as the #8th seed.

- Both teams hated the other more than anything I have seen in professional sports.

- Riley as Knicks former coach. Jeff Van Gundy as a Riley protege and both now hating the other.

- Zo vs Ewing as battle of Georgetown centers going for their first ring.

- Brawl two yrs before (PJ Brown slams Charlie Ward; benches clear) that suspended numerous Knick's players and had the Heat rally from a 3-1 deficit to take the series.

- Heat lose to Knicks in 1998 after Larry Johnson and Zo get into a fight in the final minute of game 4, leading to major suspensions, Van Gundy hanging on Zo's leg during brawl and the Heat losing the series in game 5 because of it.

*1999: Miami Heat have best record in the East, #1 seed in the playoffs and get a first round match up with the #8 Knicks. They were a team built and ready to go for a championship now that Jordon was gone again and were expected to make it to the finals. They, however, lose to the Knicks in five games because of Alan Houston hitting a rim bouncing game winning shot in the final 3 seconds of game 5 that decided the entire series.

Post game interviews with crying Heat players, millionaire athletes, were done in front of their lockers, which Coach Riley had special championship ring photos installed at before the game as a motivational tool that failed. Seeing them balling in front of the photos of the elusive rings, losing in the first round and to their nemisis, was surreal.

Now, the Knicks forever had their number and beat them the following yr in seven games during the 2000 playoffs. Then, Zo gets sick w/ kidney disorder and their window with that team officially closed.

by "several", you mean 2 out of 10 people, right?

It doesn't matter who's the favs because that's not a valid indication of which is the better team. Winning games does. Clearly the Celtics that won the title is not the same team that needed 7 games to beat Atlanta.

If KG = Kobe, which I believe to be the case (KG's impact on defense is equal to Kobe's impact on offense, or at least almost as impacful), the Celtics had a better cast. Allen and Pierce made several All-Star teams while Gasol and Odom combined for 1. The Celtics role players were better, experienced vets (but not too old like the Spurs ones) is better than up-and-coming role players.
