View Full Version : NBA officials "fixed" a series in the 02-03 playoffs

it was the only series that went 7 games that year. which was Lakers VS Kings. We were robbed of a championship.

edit - i don't think this is the right article. i'll post it when i find it. this was just on sportscenter

just watched this **** all over ESPN. the lakers had 24 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter alone. officials were "ordered" not to eject star players, and ignore flagrant fouls. i'm pretty ****in pissed

The report said the referees allegedly ignored flagrant fouls committed by the team that needed to win and called phantom fouls against the other team which led to two of their players fouling out. The team supposedly favored by the refs won Games 6 and 7 to win the series, according to the allegations.

Our big guys get 20 fouls tonight and Shaq gets four? You tell me how the game went," Kings coach Rick Adelman said after Game 6 of that series. "It's just the way it is. Obviously, they got the game called the way they wanted to get it called."

Nah, Divac lost the series for you when he back tapped the ball in the dying seconds to Robert Horry in game 6.

That was a great series btw.

Divac + Webber = two of the best passing big men ever!

It happened in 2002, but yes, that series was ridiculously officiated.

$tern would've never allowed a Kings/Nets Finals, are you crazy?

You realize that the Kings owned the Jazz in that year and the year later, right? But you were literally 8 then so you get a pass there.

the kings owned everyone that year. they had close to 70 wins that year during the RS. everyone here was devastated. the nba is just a big puppet show.

$tern has to do it - the league would fold if we were subjected to a Blazers/Nets finals every year.

No one would watch and the league would become the NHL.

I remember Game 4 as the best game I ever seen. The Kings doubled up the Lakers 48 to 24 in the second quarter and it was crazy. But the Kings were better than the Lakers that year. By a good margin. Free throws man, they're free....

The lakers, celtics, refs, abc/espn, and nba executives are all on the same team. Neither team deserves to be there. The last legit team left standing this year was detroit.

I disagree. You know who loses out on a Pistons/Spurs Finals? The fans. This is Celtics/Lakers! This is two big market teams going head to head, generating tremendous ratings, and people who don't even follow basketball anymore are WATCHING!

These fixes are good for sports. I want my Celtics-Lakers Finals, I want my Wings-Penguins Stanley Cup, I want my Red Sox-Yankees ALCS.

i hope that you are not implying that the nhl and mlb are fixed. the nhl suffered through some of the worst marketable stanley cup finals in history over the previous 4 seasons. wings-pens was a blessing, and both teams dominated their competition in the playoffs.

eh, its good considering the pool of candidates that are out there. I prefer him over say del negro or curry of the pistons. Porter has had head coaching experience before and even took the bucks to the playoffs...the bucks! thats saying a lot :D im hoping for the best.

Curry will be a good coach on the Pistons but anywhere else, he'd be set back a few years.

Hopefully the Suns can take the divison over again.

funny how you also forgot abotu the ****in rockets getting ****in scammed by the ****in mavs and ****in mark cuban. ****in joke of a league, ****in scrubs

Donaghy's counsel, however, described the scenario of the 2005 first-round series in which former Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said he had been told by an NBA executive that officials would be watching for moving screens. Van Gundy was fined $100,000 for not revealing the source of his information.

"Team 3 lost the first two games in the series and Team 3's owner complained to NBA officials," the letter said. "Team 3's owner alleged that referees were letting a Team 4 player get away with illegal screens. NBA Executive Y told Referee Supervisor Z that the referees for that game were to enforce the screening rules strictly against that Team 4 player. The referees followed the league's instructions and Team 3 came back from behind to win the series. The NBA benefited from this because it prolonged the series, resulting in more tickets sold and more televised games."
