Based on skill alone, I think Kobe

but when I think Michael Jordan (composure, not very egotistical .. the whole package), LeBron comes to mind

IMO, noone comes close to MJ. But the closest would have to be Kobe, then Lebron.

No one is even close to Jordan in the NBA now. Both Kobe and Lebron play in a watered down league compared to when jordan play. They are both great players but until you win 6 championship rings along with 6 championship MVP's, there is no discussion.

Neither LBJ or Kobe. Deron Williams or Chris Paul are the closest ones.

Jordan not egotistical? Did you ever see any of his games or hear him in interviews? Didnt think so. They are all egotistical tho. Part of what makes them so great. They arent afraid to step up and take over at any time because they have soo much confidence in their ability. Kobe is the closest thing to M.J. tho. His game is practically a carbon copy of Jordans.

his personality and work ethic are identical too... phil jackson actually said that Kobe is the hardest working player he's EVER coached...

do you realize that Jordan played an expansion league? People have said Jordan's competition was weak when in actuality, the level of competition is pretty balanced in every era.

I know wayyy too many people at school who talk about Jordan and think they know everything, especially since they were like 2 when he was playing. People need to stop living in the past. Who cares whos this and whos that. Kobe and LeBron are now. Jordan was the past.

What about the Duncan, Shaq, Odom, Amare, Nash, Kidd, Yao, McGrady and all of the other greats of the present? Honestly I think everyone plays a different game, but if you're gonna compare a present player with MJ than it would have to be Kobe. Lebron is a great player, but he will need a few more years before he has Kobe and MJ status.

point being? we all know that Jordan was on a completely different level than Kobe will ever be. I'm not trying to argue that. :)

No one will ever come close to being on Jordan's level, but so far, Kobe has been the closest player of all time. It's like MJ left the game and passed it on to Kobe.
