BIG D: the best is yet to come: wait until you venture into 20 t0 25 category.....

I can honestly say that at this point in your lifting life and age, you could probably never have to raise the weights again and squat safely for life, by simply upping the reps gradually.....

Yeah John. I don't know if I could do 10 sets of 20-25 reps with a 60 second rest. I think I'd die ... :D

The workout I did was 10 sets of 10 with 60 second rest periods. Squats were done with no lockout at the top and no stopping either at the top or bottom of the movement. It was brrrrrrrrrrutal! can't wait til next week! :D

10x10 is German Volume Training.

But you use 85% of your 1rm. You guys do know that... right? ;)

So on a 10x10 do you keep the weight consistant throughout all sets?

I do, and remember you go a little lighter than you would ordinarily do. By the 9th and 10th sets you'll think it was twice the amount.....

Not quite ... German Volume training is normally 5 sets of one exercise and 5 sets of an opposing muscle group exercise supersetted. I read an article recently in MD that described a scenario where you take 60-70% of your 1 RM and do 10 x10 with 60 second rest periods. GVT has longer rest periods to afford recovery. The idea behind this is building intensity and keeping the blood in the muscle for maximum growth ability I suppose. I know you get one hell of a pump from this method. I am thinking about GVT for my next bulk over the winter...

Poliquin's version recommends 10x10. That's the one I followed years ago. But of course, he's an animal. :D

Scroll down about half way. ;)

It's a killer.

Every 8 weeks of my training i used to do 10 sets of 10 reps with 140kg at my bodyweight, these will defo make you stronger and blow your legs up..

Good stuff, i love it....

Thanks Frank! The GVT program I was going to follow was from a question of the week post I read about 18 months ago and it described a program Arnold followed whereby you would do 5x10 bench press supersetted with something like bicep curls @ 5x10. Since Arnold did it that way I just accepted it as the gospel truth! :D

Reps on recharge ...

Overload Mechanism: Once you're able to do 10 sets of 10 with constant rest intervals, increase the weight on the bar by 4% to 5%, and repeat the process. Refrain from using forced reps, negatives, or burns. The volume of the work will take care of the hypertrophy. Expect to have some deep muscle soreness without having to resort to set prolonging techniques. In fact, after doing a quad and hams session with this method, it takes the average bodybuilder about five days to stop limping.

Yes, this is true! Still limping ... :D

10x10 squats! :D

I did those with 30 seconds rest and was sore for 5 days. Then a few weeks later I did 10x10 deadlifts.
