I chose May 28,2007 as the end day, since that is when the swimming pools open.

also, 5 months, is enough time to cut some serious bodyfat

If someones going to do it, I'm in, Need some new motivation.

Have plenty of lifting motivation, but need cardio and increased diet motivation (as those are running off the hook at the moment)

I don't think it needs to be too complicated with a bunch of rules

just post some photos and some stats whenever you feel like it

throw in some random posts in between

who gives a crap about the contest part

having a contest with all the rules and judging kind of takes the fun out of it

just use this thread

post photos/stats/ and anything you want to say whenever you want

what u think?

kind of an informal contest

Eh, I'd atleast like some direction and a bit of formality to it.

height, weight, est bf, x amounts of measurements, so and so pictures, etc.

either way.

bbl, going to the gym

Couldn't have done it without the help of bb.com. Yall keep this tread up!

btw Im 5-10, 205 right now. Ill edit it later with a pic.

I'm in!!!

Male 37 years young
5"10
183 lbs.
16% - 17.5% BF
36 1/2" around navel
35 1/4" around waist
15 1/2" arms

EDIT/// I just used this method (Navy Method
http://www.bblex.de/en/calc/navy.php) and it came out to 21.1% BF! WOW, fatter than I thought!!!

Will redo all mesurements and get an accurate BF% on 01/01/07. I will also get "before" pics up.

Goal by the end of May;

6'1" (ok, so that won't happen)
170 - 175lbs.
12% or less on BF
33" around navel
however low the waist will go???
and stay over 15" on the arms...

im down for this. lost 40 pounds last year like the guy above and after this weekend i feel like a fat lump and new years is still coming up. its winter break and i have no gym membership and no structure to my life. going to school definitely makes it easier to stick to a regimen. i wanna see the abs by may.

5'8"
165
maybe 15% bf
to get to 9% id have to lose maybe around 14 pounds
1 pound a week=14weeks=3.5 months=plenty of time

so what are your plans for your regimen? i think HIIT is the only way to go if you want an athletic body. long distance running reminds me of skinny fat body type and not as fit as the HIIT addict. its so hard to stick to tho.

hiit 3x a week + lifting to even out left side symetry + learning to cook = not thinking twice about taking off my shirt at the beach = going to the beach more = going out to different places more hopefully = probly enjoying life just that much more

lifes a simple math equation

tip: to get organic fruit for the price of toxic fruit, take off the organic labels and find a teenage girl cashier

good luck

I'm in. Was gonna start on Dec 15, but my friend from the Marines is in...we've been partying way too much.

Age: 20
Height: 5'8"
Weight: ~210...my digital scale is back at school
Body-fat: 24%
Tape measurements:
Chest: 42"
Waist 39"
Abdomen(navel):41"
Thigh: 26.5"
Calf: 17.5
Bicep: 14.75"
Forearm: 12"

pictures: As soon as I find my camera.

Goals: I have abstract and concrete goals..here goes; Transform myself into a healthier, more confident me. Oh and to not look like skeletor...I had a friend drop a ton of weight through semi-starvation, and he looks disproportionately skinny. I DON'T want to look like this. I've had this mental plateau at 200lbs (possibly due to said friend) forever, I get to about 195 and always end up gaining, so pushing through it will be a primary goal for my mental health.

Now to the concrete: Get to 6'2"...lol Get my weight under 190 or under 15% body fat while maintaining/possibly building muscle.

Diet: 2300-2500 clean cals a day...from Venison, Chicken Breast, Tuna, Sweet Potatoes, Rice, Oats, Peanut butter, Flaxseed, and Cottage cheese mainly...and tons of veggies...but I love em anyways.

Workouts: 6am 45min lifting, 4 day split M,T,Th,F (chest/tri, back/bi, shoulder/traps, leg) 6pm cardio: starting with 10min a night...progressing by 5min a week to 30min. M-Sat. Sunday is rest.

I think that covers everything...including the more mushy part...any other ?s dont be afraid to ask.

-J.HiZ-

-----

I'm in -- I'm brand new to the BodyBuilding.com forums, and after going to college, I gained a TON of weight -- the freshman 50 and the Jr 10 for a total of 60 pounds total. I went from 180 to 230/240

If we need any prizes, my online company would be willing donate an iPod shuffle to the decided winner.

height - 5' 11"
weight - 235
bodyfat - ???
tape measurements - ???
pictures - ??? [i'll go get a digicam and take come pics soon]

Anyhow, this contest is just what I need. Would it be hard to cut back down to 180 if I went intense? (I know lbs aren't important, mass/bf% is, but I don't have a BF% to compare to).

Also, I could use a lot of help in getting started. What all should I get in order to track my progress? BF% Scale, measuring tape, digicam, scale, anything else? Does anyone have any good recipes/nutrition hints they would like to share? I have read the nutrion thread and recipes thread, but the recipe thread seemed dominated by keto recipes, not so much the kind of cutting I was going for.

Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to this -- I was wondering when a new one would begin so I could get started!

!

nice gesture, but giving out prizes causes the thread to become too commercialized...then half of the posters in this thread will end up being suppliment company reps pimping their products as prizes so they can get free advertisements. I think it would be good to keep the thread commercial/prize free to keep it on track and keep suppliment companies from taking over this thread

the prize is your new body

I'm in. I need the additional accountablity that this will provide. I am about half way thru BFFM and have a good gym routine going. Motivation is at an all time high.

1)I will be alternating arms\legs 6 days a week at the gym for 40 minutes.
2)I will be doing 15 minutes of HIIT after lifting. Stairmaster speed intervals at level 10. It hurts real bad.
3)I will be following BFFM to a T.

Height: 6'3"
Weight: 260
Waist: Will measure 1\1\07
BF%: Will measure 1\1\07
Chest: Will measure 1\1\07

This is going to be a good year.

Have a good one,

I will make a voting poll thread at the end of the contest in the Losing Fat Section

Use photos from January and photos from the end of May, and have everyone at bodybuilding.com vote in a poll thread

each contestent will be responsible for posting his/her photos in the voting thread when it is made(the thread will be made at the end of May)

feel free to post photos/updates/comments/workouts/diets/questions/answers anytime in this contest thread

if you don't have photos, I guess we will go by measurements

anyways, the voting is not that important
everyone is a winner for trying

but I guess we need a final vote to make it a true contest

that's about it, the thread will run itself from now on

I think I'm gonna jump in on this as well. I wont know my starting weight until jan.10th though as I don't have a scale. I will give an idea of my bodyfat % though before then. Last weigh in I was 228lbs dec. 23rd. I was gonna start a 2007 12 week cutting contest again this year since I was in the one last january but this is already going so I'll jump on this.

I let myself go bigtime eating whatever I wanted/doing zero cardio since about june so I have quite a big mess to clean up. Motivation of others is a great resource and I hope everyone sticks it out!

Alright, here goes...

Male 37 years old
5"10
Weight----------185
Waist------------36"
Across Navel----37"
Chest------------45 1/2"
Arms-------------15 1/2" (flexed)
BF%--------------15.6 (used this method {and I had to round the numbers to a whole number}, which I think is really low meaning I think it should be higher! Can anyone guesstimate for me??? http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/calculators.html ) I will get tested @ the gym next week with calipers.
All pics were as I woke up this morning, not flexed nor sucked in.

I know this is a contest, but feel free to critique. And a guess on the BF% will be greatly appreciated.

I've been building for 7 weeks now. After next week I begin cutting anyway.

Using naval method...

Height - 71"
Neck - 17.50"
Waist - 36.50"

!7% Body fat.

I'm currently 206lbs (this morning).

Ideally I'd like to be a buck 90 and 8% BF.

This is going to be fun.

*Subscribed* I'll post pictures in a little while.

Good luck to us all.

UPDATE - Using the calculator posted by STEADY above, my BF is 15%. AWESOME. I started at 20% back in November and have been lifting and eating clean since.

I'll post pictures once my woman comes home from work...I don't want to have that "camera phone in the mirror" look.

I don't need any prizes...I just like the motivation supplied by the boards.

Party on Wayne...

Wow I really need to join this thread. I don't even care about being the big winner, I just need a group like this to help keep me motivated. This last month has killed me. I've just fallen backwards for too long and it's time for me to move forward.
Stat:
-Height: 6'2" (without shoes)
-Weight: 186 lbs.
-Body Fat: 13.55%
-Waist: 32.5"

Goals:
-Weight: 200 lbs.
-Body Fat: 7%

-Full body workout three days a week (this is what works best for me. I don't know why I've stopped doing it)
-Bench Press (3x8)
-Bent Barbell Row (4x6)
-Barbell Curls (4x6)
-Squat (5x5)
-Leg Curls (3x8)

Good timing, I'm in!

I'm in the midst of almost a year long cut and starting to be able to picture myself reaching my goal. Started at 225 w/ 37% body fat (I could do a HOT truffle shuffle), my weigh-in days are Wed's so I'll post stats and pics for this contest on or around Jan 3rd.

Been lurking for quite a while and might as well take this opportunity to thank everyone, especially (and I'm NOT being sarcastic) the clueless newb for asking the stupid questions I too wanted to ask but used search instead, and for the patient helpful old timers/educated posters that are truly trying to help people make their lives better.

I am 6'2" 245lbs ~24% bodyfat. I am hoping to be under the 200 mark by the time this is all said in and done....so I have a lot of work to do!

I am currently taking GNC MegaMen General Vitamins, Flax Seed Oil, and Whey Protein.

The reason I am doing this is for my son. Last year I wanted to go to the pool with him, but never did because of the way I looked. This year I am going to go the pool with him.

Events that I am going to train for:
Still looking for a 2 mile race in March to train for.
High 5 - A 5K Run - 04/23/06
Wicked Wind 50 - A 50 mile bike race - 05/21/06
"Iron Horse" Dualthalon - 5k Run, 20 mile bike ride,5k Run - Memorial Day Weekend (This one may be a stretch....but it is also the one that I want to do the most!)

My slogan - "Not even a train is going to stop me!"

I got hit by a train last year and walked away from it with a some stitches. I think its time that I take advantage of my second chance with life.

I'm in.
I've fallen off track for the last month and a half or so. My wife and I had our first baby on Nov 28th. Between learning how to handle all associated with being a parents icluding missing alot of sleep, the holidays, turning 35 in December, etc..I have pretty much halted progress I was making.

The good part is that although my workouts were few and far between during this time, I still ate fairly well and managed to stay about where I Was when I halted. I have a thread on these forums and I basically went from 234 pounds with 34% BF to about to about 206 or so and 24%. Then I stopped due to all mentioned above.

Th eother good part is that a week before my son came, I bought a Power Rack in anticipation to step it up come New Year. I have that now and had my first real workout on it today.

Anyway, my stats for Jan 1 2007 are:

I am 35 years old and 202.5 lbs with 23-24% BF.

I have no new pics, but from my progress thread here:

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=867465

I have copied from my other thread the last 2 pics since these are still pretty much where I am at still. These were taken on Nov 2, so basically 2 months ago, but still the same:

I took a more accurate weigh in this morning than my afternoon post when I joined this thread yesterday. Stats currently are:

Male, 6ft 1.5" tall, 202.5 lbs, 23-24% BF.

This means that I did even better than I thought over my "break". I managed to actually lose a few pounds even though I only worked out at a few random times, did a few cardio sessions when I could, but maintained a decent diet. Cool.

I have updated my "sign-up" post above as well.

I guess since I am here again, I'll post that I just finished my day 2 workout which was legs/abs. Kicked my ass. I could not do a Post-Cardio session because I felt like I was going to puke. Good sign or bad?

I think it was because I have not worked my abs really before and this is my first real leg workout in my new cage with free-weights. Squats kicked my @ss! What a difference with real weights over my old "Power-Flex" resistance type equivalent.

I understand what you are going though, I think you would find it better if you ate frequent smaller meals. I eat between 300 to 400 cals meals 5 times a day, about three hours apart. It helps this the hunger pangs. I also drink LOTS of water! :)

My goal is to have the weight and the bodyfat with a "1" in front of them by June 2007 as in(199lbs and 19% or lower)

Weekly updates from here. Going to Carmel for the weekend with the wife. Bound and determined to eat clean while there...She is looking good in her own right, loosing 35lbs. through Weight Watchers in the last year. She is my eating coach when we go out, keeping me from myself and my not so great judgement. Till Monday morning.....

Weight: 185
Height: 5' 9"
BF %: 25%
Waist: 37
Chest: 38.5
Abdomen: 38
Bicep: 14.5
Hips: 41
Thigh: 24
Calf: 14

I uploaded pictures to my bodyspace and will try to upload progress pics every 2 weeks. I'll probably post stat updates once a week just to keep me motivated. Here's an attempt at linking it: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/photo/showphoto.php?photo=85263&ppuser=429487

Bodyfat % was taken with an online method posted by sportfoodmart, it's pretty accurate when compared to an Omron, which I used at my gym this morning and it came up with 24.5 - 27.8%.

My goal is to go from 25% bodyfat to 15%, which if I maintain the 140lbs of lean mass I have, means a weight of 165, or a loss of 20 pounds of fat. If I make it before the contest is up I'm going to do a clean bulk (maintenance then maint +200/300 cals) to add some much needed mass then cut again.

good luck everyone!

cardio for one hour tommorw morning while watching freinds on tv :)

I don't have any weights at home, so I lift in a commercial gym, but I have a treadmill at home

My treadmill is in front of a TV, so I do the same thing, I pick out an hour long show and just walk on the the treadmill until the show is over.

I've had a fantastic week so far, down four pounds (I know 3 of it has got to be water weight after new years boozing and eating junk that entire weekend)
@ work, but still eating well.

Gotta figure out a bit of home gym time or cardio today

and then what to eat at buffalo wild wings tonight if I go to watch the games with friends.

and then what to eat at buffalo wild wings tonight if I go to watch the games with friends.

The last few days, I have been placed in some awkward situations that have challenged my will to keep eating clean

Today, My relatives had planned to cook dinner when I go over to their place to watch the football game this afternoon, and I had to tell them I was going to eat before I go to their place. They seem confused.

Earlier this week, I was out of the office on a business related meeting and everyone stopped to eat at a buffet. So I had to go in the restaurant or it would of been rude. I ended up eating some baked tilapia, fresh fruit, and vegetables, so it worked out well. My coworkers seemed puzzled when I let the waitress have my fork, knife, and spoon after the first plate instead of going back for seconds and thirds.

I guess they will get used to it
Today is my 9th day of eating clean
junk food cravings are pretty much gone

I have no problem not drinking, so that won't be a problem. I'll just go a have a little bit, eat and say I ate already.

My diet is never constant but there are a few things that I switch up between like my breakfast will be one of the following:

Breakfast:
Shake + oats + eggs (hardboiled usually 1 yolk)
eggs + yogurt
shake + yogurt
eggs + oats

Try to be around 2500cal, 245p245c60f

The tough thing this week has been my 'year end' has started, meaning i work 7 days a week x 10-14hrs a day.
I have to be extremely picky about work ordered dinners or bring in my own food.

My plan is to eat clean and get to 220 or 215, which is 15.6 and 20.6 pounds away. then evaluate myself there. at that point a bulk my be in order because I don't see myself below 205-210 at any point. Would obviously do some serious BF% analysis once I get lower.

One week into 2007 and I have some measurements/stats and new pics.

My measurements as of today and the beginning of this comp are as follows:

Me - 6ft 1 1/2" tall, 203 pounds, 23% BF

Natural/limp stance measurements:

Neck - 16"
Shoulders - 48"
Chest - 41"
Stomach - 40.5"
Waist - 39"
Hips/Butt - 41.5"

Flexed stance measurements:

Biceps -14"
Forearms - 11"
Thighs - 23"
calves - 15.25"

My weight and b/f are the same as I posted here a week ago. This is the first time that during my working out and dieting that I have not lost weight. In fact according to the scale , I may have gained 1/2 pound. I wonder why.

I have stepped up my weights harder and because of this, I am trying to eat a few hundred more cals daily. I am a also now taking Animal Pumps which has some creatine. I wonder if my non-loss could be water? Oh well, I am not to concerned at this point and don't pay much attention to the scale if I know I am doing what I need to be doing.

Here are some pics as of today and a compare from 5 months ago when I started. I'll check back soon.

I have this posted in the workout programs forum, but it is not getting any replies. I am hoping knowledged folk in here can shed some advice on my split that I will use for a good chunk of this contest. Here is my question posted in the other thread:

I got a question regarding my 4 Day Split. For the last 4 months or so I have been following a split as follows:

Mon - Chest/Tris
Tues - Legs/Abs
Wed - Off
Thurs - Shoulders
Fri - Back Biceps
Sat - Off
Sun - Off

I have derived the above routine based off of research here on the forums. I have been following it mostly via Dumbbells and a my old Golds Gym Powerflex which is a wanna-be BowFlex type gym. I have lost about 30 pounds between my moderate split above and cardio.

I am now ready to take it to the next step now that I have my Powercage with bench and Lat Tower and Olympic set. I have been getting aquainted with the new set-up over the last few weeks and now I am ready to dive in for the new year.

I want to lose another 20 or so pounds and want to do the same split or a similar split. After a few more months I would like to try a 5 X 5 or something of this type, but for the next few months, I would like to continue with a 4 day split.

My question is about the workout Split I posted above versus this one with the same days, but different parts:

Mon - Back/Bis
Tues - Chest/Tris
Wed - Off
Thurs - Legs/Abs
Fri - Shoulders
Sat - Off
Sun - Off

Are there any reasons that I should chose one over the other. If so, what are they? I gathered this split from looking at alot of other splits in the BB.Com workout database and forums, but then again, that is also where I came up with my first one.

So if there are any benefits to chose one over the other, I would really appreciate some input.

Thanks

Heres me starting today, took this morning before my workout.

Not sure on my weight yet, will do a weigh in tomorrow at the gym if I remember or wednesday for sure. Will try to do a rough bf% today, It wont be extremely accurate as I'll just do the simple 3 point test with the caliper but if I stay consistent it should give me a rough idea how things are going.

I'll be doing cardio 3-4 times a week in the afternoon/evening. Last year I was doing it first thing in the morning, it worked but I feel I lost lots of muscle doing it that way on an empty stomach. If I'm in a caloric defecit, the fat should still come off regardless when I do my cardio. I will do weight training first thing in the morning when possible though.

Oh yea, regarding the smileys, don't wanna show my face, and I have a jailhouse style tattoo that is embarrassing.

Hey All,

I have been busting my ass in the kitchen and the gym. I also bought BFFM, which has helped tremendously. I am finally posting my stats. I will post a pic later. I am currently doing the gym 6 days a week. I am rotating arms and legs\abs for 45 minutes and doing 15 minutes of speed intervals (HIIT) on level 10 of the stairmaster 5 days a week. One day of the weekend, I am running a long distance on the treadmill at an increasingly faster pace. Yesterday I did 8 miles at 5.1 mph in 90 minutes. Next week, I will bump to 5.2 mph in 90 minutes and so on. I will continue 90 minutes, but distance will slowly increase, because of faster pace.

I had this report done at the gym. They did an electrical bf test and the seven point caliper to get an average. Then they did the body measurements.

Current (1\8\07)

Weight: 260
Height: 6'3"
Age: 33
BF%: 27.1%
Lean Weight: 189.48
Fat Weight: 70.52
Have 37 lbs of fat to lose to get to 15% BF and 223 lbs.

Forearm: 9.5"
Upper Arm: 16"
Thigh: 23"
Calf: 17"
Neck: 17.5"
Shoulder: 51.5"
Chest: 49"
Waist: 44" - Last three are where I need serious work
Abdoment: 49"
Hips: 48"

Waist to Hip Ratio: .92

Goal for 3\29\07

BF%: 25.4%
Fat Weight: 64.52

Goal for 6\6\2008

BF%: 15%
Fat Weight: 33.44

Hello all,

I am totally new to this forum and am ready to change my body once and for all. I am definitely IN on this contest.

I am going to start a separate journal thread here, however, to keep my stuff separate if that's cool with everyone.

Starting weight: 221 pounds
Height: 6 feet tall

Goal: Transformation.

Let's do it. I am attaching my starting pics, although they are really ugly :)

Gotta love the side view pic with my sweet gut hanging out, hehe.

I just found this thread today. Is it too late to join in?

I was planning a 3 month cut and then start a bulk but I guess I could go for the whole 5 months (well less now).

As far as pics and bf% goes I'll try to get those up A.S.A.P (before the end of the week for sure)

I know for sure I wont win as I am the farthest behind and have the longest distance to go.

I've never actually admitted this to ANYone but here goes...

Stats...

01/09/07

6'2''
320lbs
35-ish% bf

05/28/07 (goal)

6'2''
269lbs (heh heh..."69")
25-ish% bf (not sure what it is now so hard to say...)

Like I said I'll update with pics (trust me, if you value sleep, you'll beg me not to) and a more accurate bf% by the end of the week.

Hopefully it's not too late or else I just embarresed myself by admiting that for no reason...lol. I've told a few co-workers about my plans which should help me stay on track but this wouldn't hurt eather.

Good luck everyone and have fun.

BTW are we judging by pics? Or by bf% and lbs lost? Or a combo of all 3?

Hardy1111
01-09-2007, 08:36 AM
In'ish, I was planning a 6 month diet anyway. Sats are:

Weight: 264 (1/1/07)
Age: 33
Height: 5'10"
Chest: 51"
Abdomen: 44"
Waist 40"
Wrist: 7"
Forearm: 14"
Upper Arm (bicep): 18.5"
Neck 19.25"
Calf: 18.5"
Thigh: 23"
BF% (estimated with Navy Method): 27.7%

My goals are 2lbs per week. Of that I'm not removing the pounds lost during the initial start (in body food I was eating so much of, etc.).
I usually get distracted by weights and ignore cardio, therefore I'm only gonna walk and run 3-5 days per week for the first 3 months or until I stop losing 2 lbs per week. Careful caloric deficit diet goes without saying.

Current lost (measured on wakeup, see my 'food out of GI', and 'food off weekend numbers, lol. Sat. Sun. is hard on me to watch the diet):

Date Weight % of Initial weight % lost
1/1/2007 264 Start 0%
1/2/2007 264 100.00% 0.00%
1/3/2007 262 99.24% 0.76%
1/4/2007 260.5 98.67% 1.33%
1/5/2007 258 97.73% 2.27%
1/6/2007 259 98.11% 1.89%
1/7/2007 258 97.73% 2.27%
1/8/2007 257.5 97.54% 2.46%
1/9/2007 255.5 96.78% 3.22%

All,

I am very excited about this cutting contest - should we had some structure, like write all the names down and starting weights in a separate thread? Maybe we can all pitch in some cash and come away with t-shirts at the end if someone wants to find some cheap ones.

Anyhow, I know its for fun but we should have *some* structure around the contest, even if there are no 'prizes'.

Just got back from the gym. I was so tired on the way there. "This is crazy" I kept telling myself "you should have just stayed home and went to sleep". Of course I was wrong, after all what do I know?

It's kinda like the episode of Seinfeld where George was doing the exact oposite of everything he'd normally do. Maybe I need to adopt that attitude for this contest.

Anyways I was thinking about this at the gym, if people have to say they are "in" then I think they should also have to tell us when they get "out". I mean yes it would be embarrasing, but maybe having to admit that you've failed is enough motivation from keeping anyone from quitting. Besides if I have to admit my starting weight, they can stand to be embarrased as well.

Another thing I was thinking of is about the no prize thing. It's a good idea and all but I was thinking about at least a t-shirt for the winner. It could have the name of the contest, your user ID and maybe even the bb.com logo on the back? I know it'll take away from the "purity" of the contest but just a thought.

Off topic slightly: I fell off diet yesterday and ate really bad but I figure one bump in the road isn't enough to make me call off the trip. Sure I could have used that as an excuse "uh oh, I ate a bad meal, well it's all over, no sence in continuing, I've already screwed up." Sounds stupid I know but I've done it many times in the past. Guess that Costanza "opposite" thing was coming into play.

Well I've been ranting for a while (sorry, really tired) and I can't seem to think of a way to end this so...ow my eye g2g :P

At the very least we should have one locked thread that lists:

(a) All the competitors
(b) Start date (01/07) and end date (May 28th?)
(c) Judges names

Everyone should have at least 1 or 2 starting pics and then 1 or 2 ending pics.

If I qualify, I am in. Not sure of the rules. I have competed in 1 bodybuilding show (2002) of which I didn't make a notible placing. I got fat all over again. Now I am training for show number 2... It is all in here:

http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/jay1514929/

Started in say october at 265 pounds.

I plan to compete at 195-210 (all depends on what I need to weight to be defined enough)

Sup, I'm still in this. Sorry for the long delay in getting stats posted. Going to get the gf to take pics of me tonight for the end of the transformation contest that just ended. Then I will post my stats in the morning along with the pictures after I weigh in at the gym.

Plus I just set myself up with a PDA phone so starting tomorrow I will be able to post alot more than what my schedule currently allows. seems like I only have 10 minutes of free time a day.

man some of you guys have to make stuff complicated
this is a pretty simple setup
use this thread for everything, we don't need 2 threads

to answer your questions:

(a) feel free to make the list and post it in this thread, I figure we should make the deadline for joining January 15th as the deadline since stragglers are still roaming in

(b) correct again

(c) there will be a poll thread where anyone on the forums can vote, so we don't need judges

A poll thread will be created in the losing fat section with before/after photos and anyone can vote in the poll thread
Photos from January and from the end of May will be used in the poll thread
The contestents will be responsible for posting their photos in the poll thread once it is made on May 28th

Post you photos/questions/answers/workouts/thoughts in this thread whenever you feel like it

the contest should run itself from now on, that is, in theory :D

Alright, the week went pretty well. Diet was good, could have been a little tighter, not cause I ate crap, but I actually missed a couple meals, so my cal intake was a little light.

Here are my updated stats, starting stats are in ().

Stats:
Weight: 184 (185)
Height: 5' 9"
BF %: 25% (25%)
Waist: 37 (37)
Chest: 38.5 (38)
Abdomen: 38 (38)
Bicep: 14.5 (14.5)
Hips: 40 (41)
Thigh: 23.5 (24)
Calf: 14 (14)
Neck: 15 (15)

Body fat didn't drop enough to change the %, and I lost some muscle. I'm thinking it's my workout so I'm looking into changing it starting next week. Dropping the pound was great, but not when it's mostly muscle. Not getting too worked up about it though, especially since I lost inches on my hips and thigh, those have been stuck for a while.

Here's a sample diet:
Meal 1:
Protein Shake w/Oats
Fish Oil
Cals: 430
Protein: 60g
Carbs: 32g
Fat: 6

Meal 2:
5oz. Chicken Breast
1 Cup, Brown Rice
1 Cup, Broc****
2 tbs. Salsa
Cals: 414
Protein: 39g
Carbs: 44g
Fat: 4g

Meal 3:
Protein Shake w/Oats
Fish Oil
Cals: 430
Protein: 60g
Carbs: 32g
Fat: 6

Meal 4:
5oz. Turkey Burger
1 Slice 100% Whole Wheat Bread
1 Cup Broc****/Vegies
Cals: 335
Protein: 32g
Carbs: 24g
Fat: 12

Meal 5:
5oz. Chicken Breast
2oz. Pasta (Wheat/Multigrain)
200g Homemade Sauce
Fish Oil
Cals: 438
Protein: 45g
Carbs: 48g
Fat: 8g

Meal 6:
1tbs. Natural Peanut Butter
Cals: 105
Protein: 4g
Carbs: 3g
Fat: 8g

Totals for the day:
Cals: 2150
Protein: 238g
Carbs: 193g
Fat: 42g

I shoot for 2100-2200 cals per day, 200g+ of protein, under 200 carbs and around 40g of fat.

Critiques of diet are appreciated!

Workout (as of right now):
Cardio:
Mon-Fri: 30 min. AM HIIT on Elliptical
Tues, Sat: 30 min. PM Endurance on Elliptical or Stationary Bike

Strength:
Mon, Wed, Fri: Full Body Supersets (alternate sets, 2 sets each exercise)
1 - Squat/Chest
2 - Back/Lunges
3 - Shoulder/Shoulder
4 - Legs/Tris
5 - Legs/Biceps
Abs/Lower Back

My take on supersets - kinda over them really. They helped me break through a plateau (probably cause of the enhanced cardio benefits), but I've noticed more muscle loss than with any other type of plan I've tried. So, since I've broken the plateau I'm going back to some kind of split next week - any ideas?

Pics updated next week.

Still think it should get a sticky since its on the front page of this site..

I agree to keep it to one thread but there should be a thread of all the people taking place with a link to there bodyspace so its easy for people to see who is in and who isnt plus see there photo's.

Would be nice if we could get a t-shirt for the winner. dont mind puttin up a few quid to go towards it if so be it .

On the subject of bodybuilding. Its going well. I have personal training with a bodybuilder at the gym i go to. So he's kicking me into shape! All is good so far..

Anyway points to think about

1: Small prize ?
2: Sort out who is in and who isnt? just so we can atleast make it official
3: Get a thread with a almighty Sticky! grr

I don't mind keep checking but there is alot of spam to go through just to see the people taking place .

Also ppl should thank newtolifting for setting this up and helping others get that little more motivated to take part and loose weight/cut what ever ur goals so thanx m8

My first official weigh in so I have a idea how things are going was a disapointing 232lbs :( . Hopefully the fat comes off as good as it did last year when I dieted (lost 45lbs in 5 months) but I'm trying a few different things this time so I'm not sure what to expect.

Just wanted to throw up a sample diet of what I eat, maybe some of you can tell me if its too much/not enough/cut something out add something in etc.

4am-cardio on eliptical
4:35am-1 scoop protein in water
5:30am 1 1/2 pieces of chicken with a ginger sauce(15cal per tbsp) and 1 pieces 100% whole wheat bread and peanut butter

8am-1 can tuna with mustard and hotsauce, 30-40g of oatmeal a child size handful of almonds
10am-2 chicken breasts w/ginger sauce and 2 pieces of whole wheat bread(nothing on) small handful of almonds
noon- 4 eggwhites 2 whole eggs on 1 whole wheat tortilla with small handful of almonds

3:30pm-pre workout shake- 2scoops protein, 1 cup 1% milk some instant coffee(if you like coffee drinks and have chocolate protein you MUST try this!)

5:30pm(ggrrrr fiance made me late for my workout)
6:30pm post workout shake 2 scoops whey protein with water

7:30pm- 4 eggwhites 1 whole egg, chopped green pepper/mushrooms on a whole wheat tortilla.

9pm bed.

I know I need to eat alot more veggies I hate them worse then most children do. But is there anything else I should be doing differently?

I have lost 6.5 pounds since 1/1. Hopefully not too much of it was LBM. It just feels good after spending over 3 weeks at 242. Though I think a lot of that plateau was due to me starting on creatine and the normal bloat caused by it.

78 by my count. Though by the time we get to May.28 I'm guessing we'll have 20% if that. We probably already lost 50% by now. It'd be nice if everyone would stick through till the end. Even if not in the contest, if just in their own private life.

Start 1 Jan 07: 185lbs

Today 12 Jan 07: 180lbs

I did not loose as much this week as last, but a pound is a pound. I need to find my calipers and do my BF%. I used one of those BF scales, but I don't trust it, as it told me last week I was at 17% and today it said 14%. I know that is not true..

I hope everyone else is having good success. Take care!

1/10/2007 254
1/11/2007 253
1/12/2007 253.5 (bump for all the H2O I downed before bed)

On a happier note I am into a pair of Jeans that wouldn't fit at the first of the year, so I am making some progress. Hopefully this will settle down to something approaching a normal weight loss for me next week (2-3 lbs).

Yeah, I just drop a lot initially..mostly cause I eat like crazy around the holiday's. Other than yesterday, couldn't bring myself to eat dinner (due to a really rough stomach) I'm keeping it around 2000-2400, at least trying to.

Plus, I started just running this year for the first time in a long time, evidently my body thinks this is a signal to drop weight.

Count me in for the Cutting Contest. I do not have my current measurements but will have them in a bit.

As for my tools of the trade
Diet: Cut Diet
Supplements: All Controlled Labs Products except Black Hole.
Equipment: Free weighs, bowflex, elliptical and powertec.

I've lost about 90 lbs from my diet change (9 monthes, 40% BF down to 16% BF) and have a photo. However, I'm not happy with my current BF (16%ish). So count me in for the last hurdle.

Just finished my AM cardio and wanted to post. Pre-w/o today I was down to 144 (from 146) - faster loss than I expected or wanted, but we'll see how it goes.

Here's the fun part - I haven't measured my height for the last 5-10 years. Apparently, I'm shrinking, because I'm now only 5'2". That's just F$#%ing great, I'm losing HEIGHT? That's one thing I just can't afford to lose! :)

Okay, I'm in. I hope to stay at it - keeping to a plan is kinda hard for me... ;) I don't have a digicam, so there won't be any pics. BF is measured by my body scales - I have no idea how accurate this is...

Current stats:
Age: 29
Height: 184 cm = 6"0' (I think ;))
Weight: 96.7 kg = 213 lbs
BF: 28% (yeah, that's quite a lot)

I'm working out 2 to 4 times a week - weight training for around 45 minutes, after that 60 minutes cardio (split between rowing machine and running).

My goals:
Weight: 85 kg = 187 lbs at the most
BF: No idea yet.
Gaining some muscles as I've lost a lot through being on and off diet for the last 10 years constantly without doing any weight training.
I just want to look better, be healthier and feel fitter.

My best wishes to all of the "contestants",
bb

Just a quick update. My normal updates will come the first Monday of each month...with pics.

I'm down 4.5lbs since 12/30 and down ALMOST an inch across the navel.

So let's assume 1" = 5lbs. (just for fun of course)

My goal was to get to an even 33" across the navel by the end of May and come in at 170lbs. And I started at 37" / 185lbs. So 4" at 5lbs per inch would equal a 20lbs loss!!! I didn't want to come in @165!!! 170lbs was the lightest I wanted to get!!!

Looks like I've got some work to do! Any suggestions on losing inches with losing less weight other than be sure diet is dialed in? I feel pretty good about that. My cardio has been on since the beginning also. If anything I am hitting it too hard causing muscle loss. I will try to cut back on the cardio a little???

Good luck guys (and gals if you are out there)!!!

Lucky for me I have a crappy half bike-half eliptical thing sitting beside me as I type this so, I've been using that lately.

Well since this is an "update" here are the final starting numbers...(does that even make sence?)

320lbs
30.68%bf (ouch, though better than I thought, if you remember I guessed 35% so while I'm not pleased it COULD be worse.)

Yeah, don't get me wrong. I love winter at Christmas. If it was Dec.25th and there was no snow on the ground...*shudders*. Though it HAS happened before, I'd rather not talk about it. But it sucks when I was to go to the gym and it's colder then an eskimos...um...nevermind.

Speaking of wanting to go to the gym, I just got off (10mins ago) that old POS. I'm actually not hating it as much as before. But I'd still love to go to the gym and use a different peice of equiptment.

Went on a nice hike yesterday in Napa Valley near Lake Berryessa. Was about a 6.5 mile hike and the elevation change was pretty crazy.

Afterwards we went to this steakhouse in a small town not too far away, and it was quite honestly the best steak I have ever tasted in my life. It was delicious, especially after a 6+ mile hike.

Well as I've just recovered from A Flu Bug, my first day was actually today, and I'm enjoying it tbh.

Keeping low on the carbs, high on protein, and low on bad fats too.

I am really not fit atm, could only run for 20 mins on the treadmill. Bad really.

Ha Ha its not to bad I will be increasing my calories soon. I just want to eat very light for first 2 weeks since im used to eating 2 BIG meals a day. Spreading them over 5 meals a day is kinda hard for me but ill get there. I also dont eat a lot of food. Im VERY picky.. I wish I wasnt but I dont like hardly anything thats good for you. Example I hate salad and everything in it lol... So im comming up with stuff to eat everyday so I can have a variety of food that I enjoy instead of eating food I dont and wish I had something else...

I should be about 2400 calories a day.. This week im going for about 1800 - 2000 a day. My break down is 55/30/15 Protein/Carbs/Fat

Speaking of food im starving LoL!

Stay on target...(strangely I haven't played WoW much since I started, think there's link to weight gain and RPG's?)

Evidently had some type of stomach bug over the weekend, didn't realize until the wife came home yesterday doing the same thing + vomiting. I'm sure I'll go up at least 1lb early this week due to water gain. Shooting for 250 7 days from now.

My weight this morning was 213, my calipers put me at 23%. Still no pics =(.

About WoW, yea I think its related lol, I find I'm playing more when gaining weight, and less while losing.

Todays weigh in showed I'm down 2lbs from last week to 230lbs. I wanted to lose 2-3lbs a week, in a way I still feel a bit disapointed with the results. Oh well my own problem I guess, I never pushed myself as hard as I know I could have and opted for cardio this time on an eliptical which I hate with a passion, my legs become exhausted before I run out of breath which pisses me off.

I will be running outside from now on when the weather permits.

Plus side today did a personal best on squats with 195lbs(not much to most but is huge for me :) ) now if I can get my bench to climb, my deadlift is decent at 315 but the other two severely lag.

I attached 2 photos
made this today with my bread machine
only ate half of it and threw the other half away
it was really good, but I didn't want to be tempted with the other half sitting around

here is the calories and macros for this whole pizza

Total: 596 calories
Fat: 22 grams 34%
--Sat: 6 grams 10%
--Poly: 4 grams 6%
--Mono: 12 grams 19%
Carbs: 75 grams 46%
--Fiber: 9 grams
Protein: 28 grams 19%

ingredients

-crust is whole wheat bread...(made from olive oil, whole wheat flour, vital wheat gluten, small amount of salt and honey, yeast)
-1/2 cup low fat mozzarela cheese
-8 slices turkey pepperoini
-1/2 cup ragu tomatoe sauce
-1 tomatoe
-1 banana pepper

need to find out how to make a healthy tomotoe sauce, replace the mozzarela cheese with fat free cheese, and replace the turkey pepporini with chicken, and it should be really healthy.

I am working on getting this healthy recipe down
the breadmaker arrived yesterday, so this is the first recipe I made with it
I will make a healthier pizza next time
need to drop by the grocery and pick up some more ingredients

Hi, here are my pictures. I'm not in great shape compared to all the "Jay Cutlers" but from what I was before, I'm in great shape. I'm still striving for my goal but I know I'll reach it eventually.

I lost around 90lbs in 9 monthes, so loose skin and stretch marks are abundant.

- Synthetic54

P.S. Can somebody estimate my bodyfat?

Measurements:
Height: 5' 9.5''
Weight: 166lbs
Arm: 13in
Waist: 35in
Hip: 33.5in
Chest: 36.3in

only ate half of it and threw the other half away

Don't throw it away!!! Go brush your teeth and wrap it up for another meal when you don't have time to make one.

Easy ideas for improving that meal:
-cut your chicken breasts into smaller pieces, cook on stove, then roll around in solution of olive oil & hot wings sauce before adding to pizza
-"good" pizza sauce is easy: 1 can of tomato sauce, 1 can diced tomatos, 1 can water, oregano, basil, maybe some pepper, garlic, onion, add more veggies as desired (I like green pepper), and don't forget 1 bay leaf! Simmer over low heat until the tomato becomes nice & soft. It will taste significantly different without the sugar/salt found in most pre-made sauces, but it's much healthier! Remove the bayleaf before serving! :)

---->cooking, I can do, it's avoiding the people at work selling g/s cookies for their daughters that is driving me crazy!
