18 and 27?

Basically the reaction you probably have right now is my dilemma. There's this guy who I'm really attracted to. He's really nice, intelligent (/witty), hot, and flirts with me fairly obviouly. I always guessed him to be around 22-23 (then again I'm terrible at guessing ages), and I think he thought I was older aswell. Today he asked me how old I was and when I said 18 he was like 'really? 18?' (it seemed like he was weighing it out lol) so I asked him how old he was and when he told me I had the same reaction...like what the hell! Ah...but then I start to think, why choose an arbitrary number, I mean I know plenty of girls my age 17-18 who have bf's who are 22-24, and so what really happens in 3 years from 24 to 27? Honestly I thought him to be slightly younger, and if I hadn't known his age it wouldn't be a problem right now. Argh...he acts playful and fun (but he's still mature and responsible --not some trashy guy praying on young teens lol --he didn't realize I was this young, it's just as much of a predicament for him as it is for me) and I'm used to being with older people and feel much more at ease with that mentality. Usually I think 'why would a guy so much older look to date someone so much younger (9 years) but because our relationship developed before this knowledge it doesn't seem odd...we just get along really great and there's a definite attraction there.

Ahh I don't even know if I have a question here...regardless I'm still going to do what I'm going to do, I am 18 after all (oh but for the record I'm interested in an actual relationship with this guy, not just teh sex lol). I guess it's just saying the technical age aloud that throws me off. Like if we were to date and I were to introduce him to my friends (22-24ish) and family it wouldn't be a problem in reality I don't think...but it's the pre-meeting that freaks me out, ex: 'So how old is he? -uh...27. -27?!'

*Sigh* Anyway, if any of you guys have dated anyone that much younger (or close to that), or still are dating someone with that age gap, please share your experiences/opinions. I know most of you will say 'no way, 18 year old girls play mind games and just want to go partying!' etc but I think it's safe to say I'm genuinly not like that...(I know how bias it seems to claim but I will regardless).

Sorry about how long this thing is, it definitely deserves a colin. I've just been perplexed by this tonight.

i don't have anything really insightful or helpful but i'm thinkin - do you want to have a 30 year old bf when you're 20? It would seem silly to reject him now based on his age if yous like each other and would have fun together. But in the future you might be like wtf this guy is 30.

Also, i've got a 20 year old female friend whose with a 32 year old and they seem just fine. I sat down and had a talk with her about it when she was considering him. I basically told her that if she likes him and he makes her happy then she should go for it. However, her friends were saying oh no, he's too old fuk that. But now she lives with him and is happy.

It's actually pretty simple. 18 year old person has no life-experience and 27 year old has plenty. You would probably be a good lay to him, but what else have you offer? Hes a grown man, you are just starting your life.
He probably has his own life with a good education, nice job, his own place etc and of course that is very attractive to a 18 year old girl. But what about you? What can you contribute to that relationship besides your body and your teenage understandings about life?

Yes...this is exactly what's been plaguing me. Experience more than anything. I mean I have a lot of different passions and would consider myself an interesting person...and sometimes when I meet 27 year old women I think...wow, aside from technical age you're not really anything special, but then I know that by the time I'd be that age I probably wouldn't be interested in him...probably still looking for an older guy. Lol, I guess it's all in the individual. Still, I see exactly what you're saying and appreciate it. I think couples should be equals for the most part...so I guess I'll just have to see.

You're young. Someone has to corrupt your mind you may as well let it be a 27 year old man. At that age though maybe a relationship with him might be a little flat lined to you. Basically at that age normal girls want to cruise around in cars with guys their age, get drunk, go to house parties, hang out at parks smoke weed, club. Ok, as a guy I gotta say be very cautios. He's friggin 27, if he knows how to attract you he prob. knows how to attract others too. No offence, but I'm betting he's not looking at you as relationship material. My advice would be don't get too attached, but whatever you do have fun.

Remember that you ARE an adult now, but think of how ure family will react to the situation, and the kind of people u will be hanging out with if u DO go out with him, they will be almost 10 years older then u, because he is...I recomend not going through with it, ure still too young like me

The biggest problem is you are at different places in your life. Then again it all depends on the people involved. If you both want your lives to head in the same direction, then it could work out.

But dam, 9 years difference is big at your age.

If you really like the guy, go for it, but just keep in mind the likelihood of it working out is pretty low.

Sounds like a good thing, you two can probably learn a lot from each other. I hate it when people play the age card, it really doesn't matter. You could be 52 and still not know **** about life. Sure you've been around and seen stuff, doesn't mean you've learned anything. Actually the less you know the more you're better off. Egoes are so limiting.

I hope that when I'm 27 I could still have a fresh child-like view on life. And maybe even date one (of legal age).

I say to go for it.

You are young but that is not the issue. If you really like him, then by all means, go for it. Its not likely that this relationship will turn into a marriage and you will be spending the rest of your life with someone who is nine years older than you. So just enjoy the ride. Especially since you are both of consentual age, there is nothing that should really hold you back.

People might raise their eyebrows but don't worry about it. People are too worried about other people's lives and not their own and will find drama nonetheless. So other people's opinions should not be taken into account.

Besides, you might like the experience, maturity, and wisdom in older men. I know when I was 18, I was a dumbass and so were the rest of 18 year old guys I knew. I can definitely see why you want to go with someone older.

I think a lot of it depends on how he acts for his age.

I'm almost 30 and my outlook on life is vastly different from when I was 18. The binge drinking and excessive partying is little more than a memory, a fantastic wonderous time but no more. Now I enjoy having a few social drinks with friends and I usually miss out the nightclub at the end of the evening. At that point I've had a a good time and I'm happy to call it a night and go home.

This is just one instance but I could give a 101 different examples. If he is anything like me then you have to ask yourself if he will be able to fit into your lifestyle. If not then you will almost be living a double life; partying with friends your own age and then doing something with him at a more sedate level.

Perhaps he is the life and soul of the party which would be great for you as he can get thoroughly involved in your world. Just something to consider that's all. Best of luck anyway...
