    Beef jerky

    Hey guys

    I bought 400grams of it lol..

    cos i dont eat enough meat and solid food... it tastes alrite, justw orried about salt content? how much is safe to eat a day?

    I dont have a clue if its good for you or no, but I could eat 50 pounds of it in 30 minutes I think. I just love that stuff. Too bad it's so expensive.

    make homemade jerky... cheap, all you need is a humidifier for like $30, get your meat, marinade and let it sit for a day

    but its not bad for a snack...mostly protein, low sugar (many of them), you could eat some daily

    its pretty much the only quicky mart food that has protein unlike everything else thats straight up carbs

    It is a good source of protein, but there is a ton of salt in most store-bought varieties. You'll have to check the content of the kind that you bought, but I've seen some that have near 800 mgs of soduim per oz., so watch out.

    i make my own with a food dehydrator which is much healthier and has waaaaaay less sodium!!!!

    That is why a dehydrator is a great thing, make your own. Takes some prep work but worth it.

    high sodium = what?

    i noticed i wanted to drink alot afterwards

    but its so goood guys, i can eat 100grams easy a day!! it costs me about $8-9AU per 100g

    I think thats fairly cheap for this quality.

    Sodium content concerns ? That you'll have to decide yourself, salt plays a major part in the curing process, last lab test was 970mg. per 100gms. although we quote higher on nutrition panel to be safe, again because all processing is done by hand.

    I tried posting for recipes on the Outdoor thread, no luck so far.
    I went too ask Jeeves and did a search on jerky..voula lots of different recipes for beef and wild game, I have about 2 pounds of deer and elk marinating now ready to go into the dehydrator in about 12 hrs.
    I didn't add much salt, I did a barbeque marinade.

    I just soak it in a marinade for awhile and put it in the dehydrator, you can also make it in the oven just make sure your oven can go down to about 100 degrees.

    Just took out my first batch out of the Dehydrator (venison) I did a B-Q marinade. HOLY CRAP I'm going too go and buy another Dehydrator and start cranking out some Jerky I'm doing my Elk right now next I think I'll try Turkey.

    Be careful with the turkey. You would most likely need to use a cure for it. In a dehydrator the temperature doesn't get high enough to kill off the disease that could come with it. Just a heads up
