I agree
Yes $600 is way, way too much for this BUT as I said I can get it for a mere $200 it has all I want and won't be working with more than 225 lbs in the near future. What I'm looking for is something with a lat pull, preacher curl, and I like the cage feature so I can move the bench out of the way. I want to keep the price as low as possible so this 50yr old guy can get a decent work out, but don't want the damned thing to fall apart on me at the same time. By the way a great site that I like is http://www.mensfitness.com/
Thanks, Greg

I am an a$$hole because I am pointing out a 14 yr old who throws around advice, gives opinions on products his parents haven't even driven him to the store to see?
Instead of giving opinions on how good products are, maybe you should sit back and read for a while.
You are barely old enough to even do most lifts, yet alone give opinions on equipment you have never seen, only heard Bizzy Dizzy Izzy talk about.

I have owned a Marcy Olympic set up since 02'. It is the mmx (556) series from Sports Authority, although you'll never find it online which is weird. It has been good to me. Impex makes Marcy which is another cheap manufacturer of equipment. I have seen it with other names also such as Apex. What's great is for $200 I got an adjustable detached bench (hard to find on these) with 2" padding and uprights you can squat under all with est. 2" tubing rated at 500lbs. I have seen mutiple 300lb presses on it and no one was worried about it holding up. I still use the bench in my squat cage I just got. A friend is now using the uprights with a better bench. IMO it is just below mid grade residential equipment, easy to store in small spaces designed for the serious beginner. I would suggest not to buy anything from these companies below "Olympic" designation and treat it as beginner equip.
For example, the bench below is a dead ringer for mine but with a different name.

Here is what my bench evolved to. Mine did not have the lat attach and my bench is round tubed.

Hey I'm a member here but I found this from Google while looking up for benches, lol. Anyways, I know it's old, I hope I don't get banned for it, but it came out of Google.
Is the Wal-Mart APEX Olympic Power Cage:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=7731206
the same as the Apex AX-PWR7 Cage stated in this thread?:

I'm looking for a new bench and I've been looking at:
Weider Core™ 600 Weight Bench from Sears
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...nches+%26+Sets
Which looks the same and cheaper than the Wal-Mart one:

Do you have an Academy near you? The Apex Cage can be had for $200 over there, much cheaper than the Walmart price (they add$100 something for shipping), and ironcompany is obviously a ripoff. And yes, they are both the same thing, the PWR7 is actually made by Impex, and they sell it under the name Apex or Marcy. For $200, this deal is very hard to beat and I'm very pleased with mine.
I was also considering the Golds Gym XRS20 bench you are looking into. Although Walmart lists the price as $200 online, my local walmart had it for $140, which was supposedly the old price, so go check the walmarts near you and you just might be lucky. However, for $60 more I'm glad I went with the PWR7 because it offers a lat tower and the lower pulley, which I put to good use. Let us know what your decision will be, cheers.

Well I got the Wal-Mart bench for $130, and got an 310lbs set from SA for $130, so that's $260 total. The olympic bar doesn't weigh 45lbs, i don't know what kind of bar it is, but I always check my plates and bars just to be sure, and the bar is just light with a 600lbs capacity.
I know the bench is cheap and weak but it's all I could afford. I wanted a squat rack but a decent one I found was $200, too much for meeh
I haven't used the bench yet because I'm sick.*****OFFICIAL MISC PHOTOGRAPHY CREW*****

I have been looking at this bench also because it has more than just bench and preacher curl... I am a beginner so hopefully i dont regret buying this cage system.
I recently owned a simple impex bench (holds 300lbs +user) and it wabbled like crazy. I got rid of that one and joined the gym but got out to work out at home.

funny, I was researching this home gym just today and this thread kept popping up on google
I wasn't going to bump it though
whoever has this home gym, how do you like it? all I have right now is a couple dumbbells. I like this thing because for under $250 (not including the bar and weights....) I'd be able to do: bench, curls, squat, leg extension, lat pulldown, deadlift, and the cable from multiple angles.
Is the general consensus saying it is good or bad? I don't plan to ever bench more than about 300 on this thing ( i can't even hit 200 yet)''Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'' -Muhammad Ali

there isn't too much about it online, it just know that it is manufactured by or for marcy, so it isn't top notch high quality, but it certainly isn't bad
there's nothing on this forum about it...ghey''Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'' -Muhammad Ali

Went to my local academy store to try one out, and its not a bad piece of equipment. Not too flimzy like i thought it would be. I'm only 5'9 193lbs as i am a beginner i have finalized my choice. I'll put it to test...
I saw another one just like it xept t'was half smith machine but felt kinda off-balanced to me, or maybe the guys at academy didnt screw in the bolts tight enough. Anybody have experience with this machine???

I wish there was an academy near me.... this thing is only $200 there. the cheapest I can find it is $237 at wallmart. Darn those 37 extra dollars
I'll take your word for it, that it's pretty sold. Any thing else you noticed? Anything that can't be seen or realized by just looking at online pics?''Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'' -Muhammad Ali

GHEY. WTF.
Walmart, last time I posted, offered free site to store shipping. now it isn't being offered on this bench. WTF. I don't want to pay another $100 in shipping on a $240 bench. It's already bad enough that Academy sells these for only $200, but I can't get it through them because they don't ship and are on the mid-east coast.''Don't quit.
