I'm 6'3 and weight almost 210 lbs. I am trying to start dunking. I've been doing squats and deadlifts for almost 6 month already. If I do a good stationary jump I can touch the rim.... But If I take a running start I can't even touch it. I think I lack jumping technique and learnig it well, would give me a few more inches....
When you're running, your body tilts forward, so using the same form as your stationary jump will probably push your more forward. That's why the running long jump is longer than the standing long jump.
I think it'd have to do with form. Maybe on the step before you run, stick the feet out in front of you, toes flexed up, so you land on the feels but your momentum carries you forward to have your calves push you off, but more up than foreward.
Also, when you run, is there any difference in the placement of your feet? Are you jumping with 1 leg or 2 when stationary? When running?
Its hard for me to explain it in writing, but here is a suggestion...
Watch basketball players that are known for their dunking/jumping. Search Vince Carter (for 2 foot jumping) and Kadour Ziani or James White (for one footed jumping) on YouTube.
Ziani and White are just crazy, and they have to have good form to do what they do.
maybe u shuld try losing a few pounds it helps, im 195 and 6 3" just like you and i can dunk (not lebron james) but i can get up
U shuld also try swinging your arms forward when jumping it helps
another exercise is doing calf raises on a smith machines and doin core exercises which will help stabilise you when you get in the air
