My Feelings on Jobs That Can Hinder/Help Bodybuilding Results
Many times our jobs or careers can hinder or possibly even help us achieve our bodybuilding goals. Some jobs make it very hard for us to diet properly, get enough sleep and have enough time for working out.
Which jobs hinder one’s bodybuilding hobby/career? Why?
I believe jobs that require you to travel should be at the top of this list (Outside Sales). This type of job makes it very difficult to have a set schedule for working out and maintaining a proper diet. When you travel alot you have to worry about flights, hotels, meetings, entertaining clients, etc. Then after all this, you would have to find a place (at hotel or local gym) to do your workout. If you can find a Health Club to work out at you're probably going to have to pay a guest fee to go there and this could become very expensive. Most Hotel gyms/fitness centers have only limited equipment and not worth your time except maybe for Cardio.
The there is your diet. When your not traveling it is easier to stick to your diet because you can prepare your food the night before and take it with you the next day. You can bring your supplements & protein bars with you to help out, but you then have to find a place to eat, and then go through the menu to pick something out that will not take you off your diet too much. You could be entertaining clients and they want to out for drinks and dinner and this is usually a big meal.
In this type of job, you are also riding around in a car all day and it is not very physically demanding as some other jobs may be.
Also, if you want to consider this a job, being a parent can greatly hinder your bodybuilding goals. This needs no explaining because people who have kids know exactly what I'm talking about!!
Which jobs are best (or possibly help) for bodybuilding? Why?
Jobs that would be the best for bodybuilding would be where you don't have to travel, have a set schedule (9-5), work in the fitness field, or any job that requires physical labor.
These jobs allow you to get to your home gym, make it easier to stick to your diet, and with the physical labor jobs you are using some, or most of your musculature to accomplish your job. Hence, these jobs would make it easier to accomplish your bodybuilding goals.
How much does your current job hinder your bodybuilding work?
My current job (Outside Sales) hinders my bodybuilding work about 30% of the time. Most of the time, I am preparing my meals the night before, but when I am traveling this is not possible for the most part. Then, finding a gym where I am traveling to is not always easy and then you have to pay to workout there, which I mentioned before, can become very expensive.
Which job hindered your bodybuilding results? Which least affected (or improved) your bodybuilding results?
My current job will hinder my bodybuilding results.
The job that I had that helped me improve my bodybuilding results was when I was a Physical Education Teacher & Coach. This job had set hours, made it easier for me to get to the gym, and allowed me to stick to my diet.

One job that undeniably helps you with your bodybuilding goals is that of a personal trainer. Your either helping other people go through a workout or your working out yourself all day long. I myself get a double wammy. I work with many men and women with weight loss goals while I myself am looking to add muscle weight. Its nice to get the other side of the story now and again! Plus I am getting my degree in kinesiology for the betterment of my career, thus it also helps in developing my own knowledge base for bodybuilding. Working in a gym gives me free gym access all day long. I can lift before, between and after my appointments each day. My bodybuilding also plays a big role in my credibility as a trainer so it works both ways. I feel this might be the most beneficial job to a bodybuilder. I will note that only work 12-15 hours a week as a part time trainer though, I am a full time college student to so its a not a true career yet.
Which jobs hinder one’s bodybuilding hobby/career? Why?
I would consider office jobs, jobs that make you travel, and fast-food jobs are the most hindering jobs that can affect your abilty to reach your full potentialin bodybuilding. All of these are already a pain in the neck and they are more pain staking when you are bodybuilding
Office Jobs- These kind of jobs suck when you are a bodybuilder, because they spend much time in the office and have to wait until late to get a workout in. Breaks are too short to squeeze anything in, so there is no point trying to do so. They are also very stressful and stress isn't very good for you when working out, because it sucks out the energy inside you, making you tired and not feeling so well.
Travel Jobs- Going from place to place is not an easy way to bodybuild. You have barely no time to workout, because so much to do when you arrive and most of the time you are unable to bring your supplements onboard. Then you have to go shopping and get enough healthy foods to last you the time you are staying. This is basically the worst job, because it is way too time-consuming and there is no way that you can bodybuild and do this at the same time.
fast food restaurants- This is a bad job for bodybuilders, because you have all the food around you that smells so good, but has so much fat in it. And sometimes you can't bring your own food in because of their policies, so you are stuck eating all this junk food or waiting until you get home. Don't be tempted to eat it by anyway possible.
Which jobs are best (or possibly help) for bodybuilding? Why?
Although there are jobs that hinder your bodybuilding lifestyle, there are also ones that benefit it. You have from.....
How much does your current job hinder your bodybuilding work?
Which job hindered your bodybuilding results? Which least affected (or improved) your bodybuilding results?
jobs that hinder your bodybuilding, but sometimes help
i am currently in the navy and it really is hard to work out as much as i like. we have recently went through a training cycle where we had to be at work until about 9 or 10 at night and by then it was either to late to work out or i was just too tired. i did find a way around all that though. i started to work out and 4:30 am and then get to work by 6:30 am. the gym on the base would open around 4 am so i was on a good schedule. i do have to fight being tired throughout the day, but it is worth it in the end. i know the military in general is hard for finding time to work out, unless you are in the air force. so from experience, the military is really one to hinder or help your bodubuilding, which depends on what branch you are in, and it also depends on what you are doing in the military at that moment.
I would have to say the best jobs for body building is to work in a gym or to actully own the gym. Personally my job is great for body building as my boss encourages it since it shows the potential members that we practice what we preach and no what we are talking about. We also have a fridge that we keep our meals in so that saves alot of hassle. and my boss even allows me a hour to workout while still on the clock. However the worst job for bodybuilding would have to airline pilot. They are only home for short stints of time, can't exactly take a large amount of food, and can't pack supplements since they could be potentially narcotics its all very stupid.l and they have to think ahead and know where they are going to go for a workout on the road.
If you say you can't your right. And your a pansy
If you lift right your going against the sickest mofo out there. yourself.
Which jobs hinder one’s bodybuilding hobby/career? Why?
There are many jobs that hinder and affect your bodybuilding results. These jobs range anywhere from office jobs, to laying down concrete.
Construction Working-
During construction working, you spend LONG hard hours in the heat and cold, sun and rain and snow, carrying things, lifting things, and doing excessive manual labor. When doing construction work, you tire your body, and deplete it’s energy stores, as well as can harm or damage yourself during these events. How this effects you, is when you get home to workout, you are already tired, sore, and just want to go to sleep, and use less intensity and want in your workouts. Besides these points, you are also lifting heavy all day during construction work, and will probably be over-training by doing so much work.
Desk Job
Desk jobs are on of the most overlooked jobs when finding out which jobs can affect your training, but can deplete your energy just as much or even more than other jobs. Sitting in a desk all day, doing boring, near useless things, sitting and eating and barely walking or moving, decreases your awareness, tires you, and turns you into a “sluggish” person. Getting home from work and working out is the least of your worries at that point, and leaves you tired, and mopey. Also, sitting in a desk all day takes away from activity, making you weaker, fatter, and less developed, decreasing your ability to work, and decreasing you size and strength.
Travel Jobs
Travel jobs are a bad thing for someone wanting to get good gains, for you are constantly on the move, flying around on planes or in cars, and much of your time is moving, and being in places. Obviously, when you get to your place, all you have to do is normal bodyweight exercises, and sign-up in a local gym, for a month, or your required time in. However, on your plane, or car, and spending hours at a time in this, you are wasting way, your muscles decreasing and your fat increasing. Also, having to travel around places, such as moving every 2 or 3 days, limits your ability to go to a gym, or even find time to workout.
Military Jobs
Military Jobs can hinder your ability to gain strength or size, due to the fact that you’ll have little sleep, little time to workout, and little time of your own. You also will be working hard, every moment, and will risk over-training if you train at normal intensity. You also will be encountering dangerous or harmful situations, and risk injury or damage to body. Besides these points, you will be putting extraneous stress on the body, and will be TOLD what to do, every minute, of every hour, of every day, no time for yourself.
Fast Food Restaurant
Obviously when working at a fast food restaurant, your going to be surrounded by tempting food and goodies, and will working around, being lazy, and eating stuff. The only REAL problem is the food and possible night-shift, hindering growth and sleep. However, the idea of the job is good- standing, walking around from now and then, but not stressing the body much. This is the Idea to a good job with working out.
Taxi or Bus driver
Taxi’s or bus drivers sit all day in a seat, and generally don’t move much. With no good lunch breaks, Taxi or bus drivers also risk crashes or bad citizens, and sometimes get little pay. Drivers also have to deal snotty, bad citizens, and all kinds of sick people, as well as the risk of bombs or a guy with a gun. Bus drivers also are easily tired, as their awareness has to be top, and they must be aware when people are constantly sneezing and talking.
Which jobs are best (or possibly help) for bodybuilding? Why?
The jobs that best help your bodybuilding career or hobby are jobs were you stay active at most of the time, but do not put extraneous stress on your body. Jobs like these are jobs like electrical engineer, engineer, mechanic, store clerk, store manager, grocery or clothes store, places like home depot, pharmaceutical person, store jobs, or any generally any job were you own or work in a store with customers.
Check-out person, store clerk, store manager, store owner, store person
People who work as a store person generally walk around, talk, put things up, and show customers were things are to go. They stay active, work easy, and don’t put extraneous effort on the body. However, you don’t have to have low pay at a job like this! Managers get extra money, store clerks, and pharmaceutical people at Walgreen’s and Wal-Mart can get anywhere from 40,000$ to 80,000$, and generally have a good set of insurance backing them up.
Electrical or normal Engineer
In being an engineer, you must lift and build certain things, as well as go and create and design certain objects. In this job, you get payed well (normally), get work and movement, but don’t get stressed out too bad. This is probably an Ideal job to have and bodybuild, as you can get money, get work, and not be tired when you get home! However, you will be putting in long hours, and it can be frustrating or boring at times.
Military Jobs
In some military jobs, all you have to do is go and work on a ship, or go in every month, or week, and put in your service, and you get pay. Also, military jobs normally have access to good gyms, with lots of weight, and they have plenty of obstacle courses. They also have certain things and better jobs for stronger or faster people, and don’t take too long. However, In the long-run, a major career, or career in time of war can stop, or prohibit your work.
Teachers
Teacher generally work hard for 8 hours a day, and get little or average or a little below average in pay. However, you get the summers off, move around, and get to work with a variety of ages. You also aren’t that tired when you get home, and can workout with little problem. However, dealing with kids, and having lessons plans or field trips can tire one, so it’s best to make sure what you’re getting into before you become a teacher.
How much does your current job hinder your bodybuilding work?
My current job does not hinder my bodybuilding results, as I am active, work hard, and do generally a good job. As far as being tired goes, at points I come home from a long, hard grueling day, but normally I come home fine. As well as this, I have money to buy and get proper food and nutrition. Also, I have things of a good result, and have a nice house, bed, and nice things.
Which job hindered your bodybuilding results? Which least affected (or improved) your bodybuilding results?
As far as jobs hindering me… I have not had any that have hindered my actual work! I went into a heavy manual labor job, however, worked out a little, to keep up what I had, and ended up gaining 10 pounds of muscle in about 10 weeks! As far as jobs that have affected me, I have not been affected much, for I have avoided over strenuous jobs and positions, as well as done jobs that have helped me. I just chose jobs that I was interested in, that had and held good pay. Choosing a job that’s uninteresting, and boring, has a deep psychological impact, that will leave you tired, bored, or angry. While jobs that are hard on the body, will leave you physically tired, and weak, and will deplete energy. Jobs best for me, and others, are interesting, medium working jobs. Make sure to eat right, get rest, and be healthy!
Medicine. I love my job, though am on call every 5th day essentially. This means a potential 24 hr day followed by a half day that gets me done by 1-3 pm typically. Lots of nights up and now that I am back to working out this last year I regret all of that lost sleep even more. I have figured out ways to get in workouts on half days, weekends off and late at night. Working out has provided a great outlet for some of the stress of the day. Any others with call jobs keeping them up all night?
Law Enforcement. The down sides are usually 12 hour shifts, which leave little to no time to train that day when you factor in commute time. Rotating shifts, overtime, the dangers of getting hurt, and lack of sleep all work against a good bodybuilding program. But with anything, you can work through it with a positive attitude and hard work.
My job is both a hindrance and a help to my bodybuilding. I have a desk job in front of a computer and it is easy to gain fat but also easier to gain muscle because I am not burning all the calories I consume.
i am a hairdresser which in the past i have used as an excuse not to go to the gym- i was tired from being on my feet all day - then i bought a salon and worked twice as much- more excuses! my new found determination and strong will has helped me determine it's not your job, it's not your spouse, friends, your kids, your responsibilties, etc. If you want to do it you can- put your mind to it and just do it! stop making excuses and make yourself happy!
senior in high school. taking a full load of advanced placement classes. i manage to lift 5 days a week. im also heavily involved in police explorers. its basically a ROTC thing, but for the police academy. for me the hardest part is eating clean. i can wake up early and lift, or if i sleep in run to the gym after school. but its hard to eat clean all of the time. but im getting better at it. what does help is that my schedule is extremely predictable, with the exception of several test falling within a small timeframe. that just sucks because i have so much studying to do, although going to the gym energizes me and i work faster because of it. well it at least feels that way. i hate hearing kids complain that they dont have time to workout much because they are in school. there are some kids involved in stuff more than i am, however, im busier than almost everyone i know and i make it work. it helps though that my girlfriend plays tennis alot so she understands my need to workout, i go stir crazy if i dont.
