Tuna is obviously a go to for many bodybuilders. high in protein and cheap. But the mercury scare is always there. Ive been eating 2cans a day for a few weeks now. Im gonna be cycling it on and off every month, thats my own broscience to beat the mercury threat.

Have you been experiencing any immune system suppression? How about compromised cardiovascular health? Any problems with your nervous system?
People vary widely in sensitivity to MeHg toxicity, so these threads always tend to bring out people eating dangerous levels without experiencing mercury poisoning, but it is a legitimate concern.
FYI, classical signs and symptoms of higher level MeHg exposure include (in order of typical appearance of symptoms) numbness and tingling around the mouth, numbness and tingling in hands and feet, clumsy gait or difficulty walking (ataxia), slurred speech, visual field constriction, coma, convulsions, and death.
Next time you get a blood panel, ask to specifically look at the mercury levels.

Yeah, I limit myself to no more than 6 oz a WEEK. Generally I eat more fresh fish that's safe according to

^^ wise. The vast majority of the U.S. seafood supply are low or very low in mercury. Many athletes and bodybuilders probably need to better understand the risk about mercury in fish and seafood to allow them to make better seafood choices when it comes to mercury content, especially the amounts of the seafood they eat. The benefits of eating seafood clearly exceed the risks from MeHg, as long as the fish consumed are mostly low in mercury.

I used to eat boatloads of tuna until it was brought to my attention by several of the very knowledgeable regulars here that it was a bad idea.
Subsequently, I did a good bit of searching out of info on the webz, and came to the realization that they were correct. At the very least, I came to undertand that it wasn't worth the risk to continue eating tuna in light of the fact that there are so many other relaively risk-free alternatives. No brain, no gain.

When I buy canned tuna, I always buy the Wild Planet low mercury brand from Whole Foods. I don't know if they sell it anywhere else, maybe local health food stores.
That being said, I usually only eat canned tuna if I can't make it to the market ( or if i forgot) to buy protein when I'm completely out of everything else.

I still don't know what to make of the whole selenium binding mercury argument, which would make tuna safe to eat in whatever amounts one might please, so I limit myself to two cans of light tuna per week. The risk that mercury poisoning could in fact occur and that those counterarguments are wrong is much greater than anything I could gain by eating more (a couple of bucks saved per week), so I'm playing it safe and sticking to salmon and sole for the rest of my fish intake.
