hey guys whats up, i've heard that no matter what u do....Your body can only produce 2 lbs of muscle a month...I've asked a few people here and they have confirmed it
I was just thinking the other day...If you are only lifting upper body, does this mean ur upper body will develop faster because it doesnt have to create muscle in the legs...being that the body is only limited to producing 2 lbs....
Can someone elaborate on this 2lbs of muscle a month theory
Thank you very much, have a great day

Why wouldnt you wanna work your legs? Have you ever heard the saying "Sqauts help your bench". The reason behind this is becuase you have the most red blood cells in your legs so when you use those its like RIOD RAGE! lol. Ok not that extreme but it does help.
Also. DONT JUST WORK YOUR BICEPS! TO look bigger you need a bigger middle body. shuch as. Wider shoulders, Widerback, Wider Chest, Thicker Back and Chest. Ones you get those big you will look massive. I kno guys who ahve MASSIVE arms but small chest. They look like morons. But they work theyir chest as hartd as their arms but they cant help it.

Ok, it's not like there's some law your body has that says "2 lbs of muscle a month THATS IT" and you can choose to build that muscle wherever you like. No. For someone who works their upper and lower body, there is the potential of approximately 2lbs of musclular growth all over the body in one month. If you don't work your legs that number probably drops. Stupid kids.

During the summer when I was on Myozene; I gained 5lbs of muscle in 1.5 weeks. You can't beat that with a stick!

2lbs of muscle is not necessarily realistic.
that's 48lbs of solid muscle in 2 years, 72 in 3, and 96 in 4!!!
not a chance.
whoever said 5lbs in 1.5 weeks... how did you measure that?
can you really tell where it went? how much of it was water? were you constipated? come on... you really don't know - measuring muscle is tough after 12 weeks, you wont be able to tell much in 1.5, even on AAS.
as a beginner, 2-3lbs of muscle per month for the first couple months is definately possible, after that, too many factors are involved.

I don't care what you guys say, that is complete bull****. I'll take my own experience over some study. I work my entire body, and in one month I've managed to get my bench up 20 lbs. my squat up 50, and deadlift damn near 75. That's gotta equate to more than two lbs of muscle. Also, that was about 10 lbs. of BW increase too. I know not all muscle, alot of fat, but still, you're telling me that at MOST 2 lbs. of muscle made me that much stronger?

care to cite any legit sources? im sorry but t-nation does not cut it, there is nothing scientific at all about that article. it is a person sharing their experiences with lifting
i gained 46 pounds my first year of lifting, and its undeniable that my bodyfat actually lowered, as proven with the the pics ive posted. Divide 46 by 12 and you have poundage in muscle i gained- almost 4 pounds a month. if everyone ate and lifted right, some would still excel a lot faster than others, simply because of genetics. i am fortunate to be a mesomorph and put on muscle very quickly. i have friends who put on muscle with fat, and friends who wont gain a pound unless they eat enough for a small army. its alll genetics
150 pounds, spring 05
196 pounds, spring 06 (no homo)

there is no set rate whatsoever.. a 5ft guy isnt going to produce 2lbs of lean muscle a month (well he may or may not) a 7ft guy could easily do more than that as 2lb would be much less composition in comparison to his body proportions.

1. Looks like your bodyfat did go up. Minimally, but it definitely did.
2. You seem to have forgotten it's possible to gain fat and still have the same (or even a lower) bodyfat so long as you gain the appropriate amount of muscle as well.
Strength gains are more a result of your nervous system adapting than they are muscular hypertrophy.Last edited by Ravage7; 12-11-2006 at 11:38 PM.
