Question How many times should you train each body part?

Just wondering, I heard somewhere that you shouldn't do more than 10 sets (of around 8 reps) for each body part (triceps, delts, chest, etc). Is this true?

I go to the gym around 3-4 times per week, as a beginner. Is it advisable to combine training (train 2 body parts every time you go to the gym)?

Big bodyparts generally need more sets. Back, legs, chest generally need the most. Shoulders and triceps need the second most. Biceps, calves, forearms usually need the least. Hams can either need the second most, or the least, depending on your deadlift form.

Also, if you use HIT or Volume that can change your set needs.

And sure, try to hit each body part once a week. 4 days is perfect, in my opinion.

    Back/Biceps
    Chest/Triceps
    Legs
    Shoulders/Traps/forearms

    put in rest days however.

    Thanks for the information.

Basically, I am aiming to bulk up (being skinny right now).

I also place the maximum effort possible in each set - usually, I use the heaviest weights I can life and do around 6-8 reps before I have to stop.

Would once every 2 days be good? I'm aiming for 4 days spread over an 8-day period, with 3 days rest at the end of the period.

By once every 2 days, I mean working different muscle groupings every time.

For example, Mondays will be Chest/Shoulders/Tri, Wednesday is Back/Biceps, etc.

Once the cycle is finished, then I just rest for 2-3 days and repeat it again.

Since I'm a beginner, would it be better to do the very basic free weight exercises rather than anything complicated?

Thanks, I'll be looking through some of the basic workouts.

Most of the workouts I get from www.abcbodybuilding.com; seems like a good site from what I've heard.
