Deadlift Competition

I don't know much about powerlifting, so I was wondering if I could get some advice.

There is a deadlift competition coming up in January near my town. I currently weigh 183 and my best deadlift up to date is 425 x 3. Maybe that puts my max at 450.

I want to get my deadlift max to 500 by January.

Is this possible? If so, can someone give me some good training tips to up my max?

Here is a video of my form. I intend on pulling with this form at the competiton. No belt, straps, or suit. Just chalk.

Form looks really good. The only things I would change are the set up and the footwear. Dont sit down so long before you lift the weight. Get set up and go. Stand up or straighten your legs inbetween each rep then set up and go. You waste a lot of energy staying squatted down like that. I would try to get a hold of some deadlift slippers or wrestling shoes which ever are more readily available to you. Also if you are going to deadlift with no belt make sure to work your low back and abs good.

You might as well use a belt at the comp man. It will only help you.

Real good form on that video, you had more in you!

Yeah that video was made a little while ago...just a few weeks actually, but I can probably pull 405 more than 4 times now.

The other day, I did 425 x 3, 405 x 4.

I may have inadvertently applied some special techiques to my deadlift training, but sometimes I'll take random weeks off, and other times I'll back down in weight and then the following week I'll pile on more weight than ever before. Strangely, this has worked wonders for me...in july I was doing 365 x 4...so it went up quite a bit since then.

I've never maxed out before or used a belt, so I was thinking I'll just pull without one. I'm pretty good with breathing into my belly.
