I cant answer 100%, id say slightly but not that close, cause one you use yourself to pull up, the other to pull down.. they would do slightly the same, but the motion is quiet different,

hhmm ok....but is it necessary to do both in a workout, or can I rotate between the two to switch it up?

Dan Gastalu said it is scientifically proven that the wide grip lat pull down targets the lats the most out of any other exercise.

This is exactly the answer I was trying to get with another thread I started. Thanks!

Until recently, I'd been doing only lat pull downs, but heard that I should try pull ups, so I did, and I must say that I definitely felt a huge difference.

I also wonder if anyone does both to maximize the lats? I'd guess you'd have to start with pullups, because I don't think I could do many (if any) pullups after 5 good sets of lat pull downs. ...??

They both work the vertical pull musculature. If you plateau on one, switch to the other.

I prefer weighted pullups to lat pulldowns. I did them yesterday and my lats are achin good. That and a good diet will add width to ur lats.

i do chins or pullups first on back day, when i can't do anymore i finish up with some pulldowns.

    then move to rows.

As far as feeling it the next day if you do pull ups all the time pull downs you will feel and visa versa. Both are equally as good in my opinion if any are better it is by a minute difference. Do both!!
