what do people think of half circle front raises?
i watched an Arny vid last night and noticed that when he was doing front shoulder raises he carried on past 90 degrees and did a half circle raise so that his arm was pointing up in the air. i've always been taught to go to 90 degrees, anyway, i tried it arny style today and it felt awesome, like it worked the whole delt!
Has anyone else tried/do it this way and what do you think? why do we all only go to 90 degrees when this feels like it is working the delt much more?

I like brining it up a good amount as well to really hit that delt hard.

i think im gonna continue with full raises now, i just don't see the point in only bringing the halfway anymore unless using a rediculously heavy weight

when doing a front dumbell raise, instead of bringing the dumbell to the same level as your shoulder take it past that until your arm is vertical. does that explain it any better?

thats a good point, but i have read that the rotator cuff is more likely to be injured by the reverse motion, eg. swimming and throwing!

When you bring the upper arm past parallel to the floor, your upper trap takes some of the stress off of the anterior deltoid. That's why people, usually, only raise the upper arm parallel to the floor.
When you say semi-circle do you mean: he started with a neutral-grip and ended with a prone-grip?

I say you do what you feel is good. But yes that previous poster is right, your traps will come into play once you go past parallel, which has also been stated by arnold "the oak" schwarzenegger himself in his encyclopedia to modern bodybuilding book, that once your arm goes past that 90 degree angle, your traps come into play.
your delts probably were targeted greater because for the simple fact that you are having that weight in suspense for a greater amount of time than a person would if he was just going to parallel. you're getting both benefits , your delts AND your traps will be greater!

that sounds about right. if that is the case tho, and it is working both delt and traps why do you never see anyone doing it in the gym? i'm going to stick with it for a while, i certainly feel more sore after this session than i do usually.
