I love doin some upright rows after some deadlifts, and if Im feelin crazy some shrugs as well!
Note, when doing upright rows, use good form , don't go too heavy(no pos fail or negs), they can be ruff on your rotator cuffs.MISTAKES: It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others. -Author Unknown

Upright rows, shrugs, and CLEANS are all great for the traps.

How heavy is too heavy?
Most back exercises (ie. deadlift, rows) work your traps as well. Doing shrugs to conclude a back workout will really burn them up. I use to do traps with shoulders but now see much better results doing them on back day.
Another type of shrug is performed on a standing calf raise machine. Take a stable stance and then execute the shrug motion. I just started doing this exercise. I prefer using dumbbells but it is good to have variety.

When it hurts your wrists or shoulders its definately too heavy. When form and range of motion is sacrificed its too heavy.
