Maintaining and bulking is harder than cutting?

So I have just came of a major cut of 1500 cals per day. For me to maintain its up to 2490 cals per day, to bulk 2710. I am struggling to hit these numbers especially trying to get 179g of Protein, I am sickening myself with damn chicken breasts, eggs and turkey. Today I have only managed to hit 1800 cals and I am sick of eating.

How do you do this? Obviously I could maintain and bulk on McDonalds or junk food easily but thats gonna put me right back to square 1.

Not necessarily. If a Big Mack a couple times a week put your calories where they need to be that's fine.

Well depending on how long you did that cut for your metabolism is trying to recover. Secondly, if you think adding in calories from McDonald's will somehow sabotage your physique you're wrong. Last time i checked food = food.

6 months, lost 55lbs. I only started try to maintain at the weekend, On Friday I weighed 79kg, today I weigh 81kg, I am hoping that is just water or something. Yes food=food but when you're trying to hit macros the fat content in say 1 portion of fries would likely put me over my entire fat allowance for the day.

It really shouldn't. A large fry has 24g of fat. You should be eating more than that every day.

Yeah maybe, My daily goal is 60g, I've ate clean today and I've only 5g remaining, must of been the 4 eggs I had at lunch that put the fat up.

You should have a minimum of fat to hit daily. If you go over that minimum, you can just adjust your other macros to make it fit(as long as you're still getting your protein minimum as well).

Hit your macros bro and don't worry so much about categorizing foods as good or bad. You should have a protein and fat minimum as well as strive to intake a decent amount of micronutrients every day. Other than that, fill up your macros with foods you enjoy and that are convenient to consume. I didn't go from 150lbs to 225lbs without enjoying fast food almost every day. And yet here i am at 32 years old in almost perfect health (i get checked regularly due to my profession) and phenomenal condition (athletic condition). Did i do something magical? No lol. I ate everything i could regardless of where it came from. I never got over 16% body fat. And i lifted heavy 5x a week. When it came time to cut i upped the exercise and cut down on junk food. That simple.

I use MFP to track, Doesn't tell me my minimum just goals which are 56g fat, Protein 179g, carbs 317g, them numbers are to maintain. At the moment I can hit fat and protein but carbs are about half of what I should eat.

Yes I think I am trying to hard. What I don't want though is my weight to go up, I am slim with a normal BMI for the first time in my adult life and want to stay that way,

Protein should be the easiest thing to hit honestly and adding carbs will help you hit your daily calories. Embrace snacking man be eating lightly all day 200 calories here 300 there. If you want to put on lean mass you need to eat healthy whole foods and a lot of it. Nuts, dried meats, yogurt, cottage cheese, protein bars, PB, packs of tuna. These are all light snacks that can be consumed throughout the day to help you increase protein totals and overall calories. Also don't be afraid to cheat a little. Once a week have a fatty steak or a hearty pasta. This will not make or break your diet. Also try to think about this, gaining lean mass takes a lot of time. Remember that you have to eat an extra 3500 calories a week to gain a pound of actual weight that isn't just water. Don't think about how much you eat every day, but about how much your consuming weekly. You have to be consistent on that basis. a cheat meal a week can easily be an extra 1000 calories that you missed during the week.

Lastly I came off of a similar cut as you did when I lost all my weight and your stomach shrinks a lot. Slowly increase by 200-300 calories each week until you can hit your target calories. Your stomach will gradually expand and then you will be like me and constantly waiting for that next meal.

You are sick of eating because you are only eating "clean" broscience foods. Eat what it takes to hit your macros and enjoy a small dessert everyday if you still find it hard to eat more.

To up your protein easily without having to eat chicken breast, try 2 cups of 0% Fa ge plain non-fat greek yogurt daily. 46 g protein with only 260 calories. Another way to eat more protein with less volume is to include a protein shake a day. 30 grams protein for 140 calories with ON platinum Hydro-whey. That's 76 g protein with only 400 calories. Sets you up nicely to eat other tasty foods throughout the day.

If you need help uping your calories, eat cheese. Protein and tasty fats.

You should NOT be using MFP to tell you your macros and calories. It's not that accurate for calories and uses ratios for macros. Read the stickies, figure out your macros, and use MFP only to track.

Agreed. I use a protein shake sometimes so I can enjoy some pizza or something and still hit all my macros easily. Although, whole foods> protein shake anyday.

How do you do this? Obviously I could maintain and bulk on McDonalds or junk food easily but thats gonna put me right back to square 1.
Also, I am not downing people or anyone in particular but I get so tired of seeing people all over these forums with physiques that don't backup their so called knowledge about nutrition. Some people you see don't look to be in great shape. Of course I applaud anyone for working on their body and changing their physique, but some people are giving advice about how its okay to cheat regularly. Yes you should enjoy what you eat but only genetic freaks are able to eat a dessert every day and maintain a sub 10% bodyfat. Its funny really looking at their pictures and seeing them giving advice like there word is gospel. It's like talking to a GNC employee.

You must have great genetics then but the average person s not able to eat like that. If eating fast food and junk every day is able to work for you then congrats you are one of the few. Cheat meals are fine weekly for the rest of us. I have maintained about 7-8% bodyfat while gaining quality muscle and I only cheat once a week. A slice of cake or pizza. Its just not okay to go around telling people to eat dessert every night because it may not be bad to you but for most people, it will negatively impact their goals. Sorry if you got all butt hurt about this but its facts.

LMAo you feel the need to tell me what I understand...You are 22% bodyfat how can you make a stand on telling people what works and what doesn't? I mean the mirror doesn't lie. Tell me what I understand when you get under 10% bro.

So if you maintain at 7-8% all the time, then you must know exactly how many calories you need to maintain then, right? So if you ate a 3-400 calorie dessert every night that fit into those calories, how would that keep you from staying at that body fat percentage? Just because people have higher body fat percentages than you do doesn't mean they're wrong. Just because you deprive yourself of certain foods you like and you think that's the only way to maintain your body fat percentage doesn't mean it is.

I need around 2600 to maintain. But no you would not maintain your body fat percentage because desserts may fit into your calories, but you would have to sacrifice protein, good carbs for energy to get through workouts, and healthy fats. He said he needs 2710 to bulk. take 1200 off in desserts so he has 1500 calories to reach his 180g of protein he needs alone at 4 calories per gram that is 720calories and leaves him with 780 calories in carbs and fats. Fats at say 65g which is low is 9 calories per gram is 585 leaving him with 195 calories equaling 48g of carbs for good carbs that help you recover and fuel your muscles for growth. If you are wasting all these calories on crap you leave out the essentials for fueling strength, size, and definition gains.

Who said anything about 1200 calories a day for desserts? I don't think anyone is suggesting that.

Lol you guys are awesome. The clean foods guy didn't know what hit him.

No one is saying to eat a whole 1,200 calories of dessert a day... we are saying if it fits your macros and your hitting pottasium etc it will not effect your cut if you eat some dessert. But maybe this guy is onto something, let's make the entrance requirement to post on these forums sub 10 percent body fat with a FFMI of 24+. Because lord knows if you let something like injury or life problems let you go above 10 % body fat, you don't know chit about nutrition.
