My calves are stubborn like most peoples, I am currently starting a routine where I work them every other day, alternating between heavy weight low rep and light weight high rep workouts. Anyone think this is working them too often?

Arnold worked his calves multiple times every day to get them up to par with the rest of his body.
Disclmainer: Not saying what worked for Arnold will work for you.Thewhite9t's training log- http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?p=364921521#post364921521

if it doesnt hurt the next day, then do them the next day, however, u shuld do enoiugh so it DOES hurt the next day, then u know u worked most of the muscle fibres, 3-4 times a week shuld do the trick, u can do it everyday, but just make sure ur getting more protien and glutamine or other recovery supp's so they dont die down on u in the next week
