    Why do homosexuals act feminine??

This is not intended to be a hatefull or insulting thread. But honestly, the few gays I have known seem to not act quite as masucline as most guys. I can just see it in the way they talk, there body langauge, use of hands, etc it resembles females more.

My question is why is this? I understand some propose the attraction for men may be genetic, but how would this impact normal growth and developement and being a male??

did you ever stop to think that you might know other gay people. you just don't know they're gay because they haven't told you and they don't act feminine? it's quite the stereotype to say all gay men act feminine.

maybe, there were no gay guys in my highschool I was aware of. I have only personally known about 3 in real life from work or whatever and they all seemed to act on the feminine side for whatever reason. I always was uncomfortable because wed talk about stuff and theyd always say "you straight guys" somehow labeling me that just didnt sound right.

Hmmm... this varies. Some gay men are softer than the average guy in their mannerisms, etc. Some are flaming boats of womanhood, while a good portion will fly under your gaydar unless they make an effort to do something sterotypical. I can't tell you why this happens because I don't know.

What is "being a male"? Heterosexual men aren't all he-men either. I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're asking.

I guess Im asking if being homosexual may somehow effect ones personal and socialogical growth to the point it can effect there behaviour even when not dealing with sex or what not

Hmmm.... I dunno about that. The vast majority of homosexuals grow up in straight households and without much exposre to homosexuality (at least the generations before the current crop)... where they would pick up such mannerisms if it wasn't somehow innate is anyone's guess.

They don't all act feminine. I've experienced about a 40/60 split in my lifetime - 40% masculine that you would never know were gay and 60% feminine to some degree.

Why do some people who were raised in the ghetto listen to rap and walk with a 'gangsta limp'?
Why do some people who like goth music wear all black and have long hair?

It's all part of the need to look like they belong with a certain type of people, and the need to be recognized as such.

A lot of heterosexual men are somewhat feminine; a lot of homosexual men are very masculine. A lot of heterosexual women are somewhat masculine; a lot of lesbians are very feminine (lipstick lesbians ). That homosexual men are feminine is a stereotype. There are some, yes. But where's the line between masculine and feminine?

Exactly... gay men and women are all around and you don't know it. Think about the kids that kept to themselves and never had a boyfriend or girlfriend. It could have been more than shyness.

Yes, it definitely can. In Samoa, there is no "homosexuality". Rather, there are a group of males called Fa'fafines who do female labor, dress as women, and take straight men as partners. They all act quite feminine.

Anyways, the reason you don't think there are many masculine gays around is because you don't know that the masculine ones are gay, whereas you assume all the feminine males to be so. Flamboyant ones hardly represent the gay population, but they attract the most social and media attention, and thus skew our perceptions of the gay community.

I think its because that's who they are.....Once 'out' they can relax into just being themselves, and if that means flipping their wrist at you and saying **** like, "oooww..girlfriend!," then that's what you'll see.

I used to work with this one gay dude, and he was pretty much just accepted as a chick. I mean, he was a dude, but if you didn't already know that, you'd probably just think he was a chick. He even went by the chick version of his name. He didn't wear dresses or anything, but he was fat and one of those people, if you don't know them, you look at them thinking is that a man or a woman?. You know what I mean.

Then you've got openly gay men who just don't act like that at all. I assume because that's just not who they are..

You have an interesting question, but obviously whether or not someone is feminine or masculine has nothing to do with or is not effected by their sexual orientation; its just who they are.

Do you think, maybe, the homosexual men who act in this feminine way and women who act masculine could be compared to transsexuals?

First off, the OP should have given another qualifying statement to the effect of, "holding everything else equal, why do gays, on average seem to act more effeminate than those who are straight?"

I personally think it's some sort of structural biological difference, e.g. the part of the brain that detirmines sexual preference also detirmines, in part, gendered behavior. There have been many studies on this, but none have gotten very far. For example, some guy published a study saying that gays preferred men because of structural differences in their "third interstitial nuclei of the anterior hypothalamus," which resembled that of a woman. The evidence was later disproved, however.

There's one last factor here that I think is being overlooked. Since being gay goes against societal norms, people who are openly gay may be suggested to be more willing to break convention than the typical person. So, since these people are, on average, less constrained in general, then it would make sense that they would not supress any feminine mannerisms that may be supressed by a heterosexual. E.g. A gay guy may act more feminine than a straight guy not because the gay guy is gay, but because the gay guy is more comfortable breaking social norms, thereby allowing feminine tendencies to come to the surface more readily.

    My 2 cents.

Not every gay man acts feminine.
Some members of this forum are gay and looking at their picture and reading what they type you would never have known until they mentioned it.

this thread is too gay anyways what about lesbians? i'm thinking most lesbians stay feminine because they want to stay in their groups like Julie5150 said:

"It's all part of the need to look like they belong with a certain type of people, and the need to be recognized as such."

I dont think your question was stereotypical at all, seemed pretty straight forward to me.

Why do some gay guys act feminine? Thats what I got out of it.

That has baffled me as well. The extravagent body language/gestures, limp wrists, way too feminine voices and the list goes on.

And is it me or are the serious flamers usually more outspoken about everything. Its almost like they love the sound of their own feminine sounding voice...arguing about everything...and they're never wrong...cracks me up.

There has got to be some kind of genetic miscoding going on for a man to act like that.

To each their own I guess.

I've had several gay friends and met many more gay people and I've never noticed any of them acting feminine.

edit: Although some do act in a way that might make one suspect they're gay. I don't really know what or why.

It's true, of course, not all gay men act feminine. But here's something to consider. My co-worker and I were just discussing this subject last week and he told me that after a friend of his "came out" he started acting more feminine all of a sudden. We both believe that it's a cultural thing within the gay community, even though not all men act that way. Some gay women try to behave and act like men too.

Maybe we gay people are transgender in a lower scale. It's not just acting femenine, it is to identify with roles of the opposite gender. From my experience it happens more than 90 perecent of times. Saying this, it's like a heresy though.

You can, and need to find a ground that you know you are suppose to stand on.. hence, stand your ground, this is the place where you know everything is as it should be for you. If you stand in a place where you know in your heart things are wrong, most things around you will never be right.

Rule number one, never work at being what another man defines as being "honorable", Honorable is is being true to what you know and and doing what you know is right for you..

Super srs? Even if you gave a straight guy a series of estrogen shots, he would still be straight. Gay guys that do a cycle of roids don't become straight.

If gays had too much estrogen, they'd have tits, big hips, and tiny balls. That has not been my experience at all. I know plenty of deep voiced, hairy, big-balled gays.

    wait, wut?
