Hi all!
I want to get a defined, ripped, shredded, toned, cut etc etc 6 pack.
I already to 2x20 situps, 2x20 twisters and 2x20 crunches at least 4 times a week.
I have a tight waist but just no definition. How important is low body fat?
Any suggestions?

You already have a 6 pack, you just can't see it
lower your body fat and work on your abs
in other words stop all the candy, soda, junk food etc

Rolo.125-
Bodyfat will make all the difference in the world when it comes to your midsection. Watch your diet and include a little cardio work in your routine in you want visible abs (note: don't do too much cardio or you will sacrafice muscle size along with fat). Also, a suggestion for your ab routine: replace sit-ups with an exercise for lower abs such as hanging or lying knee/leg raises. Sit-ups work the hip-flexors more than the abs. Peace!

EVERYONE has a 6pack, no one does NOT have a 6pack. All a 6pack is , is low bodyfat.
Cut up and you'll see it. Don't think that doing exercises will give you a "6pack" maybe itll make your abs stronger, or if you train it hard enough bigger, but a 6pack, just lower the BF %(you can see it starting at usually 9% BF).

Yah a low body fat ratio is what you need... and the only thing that will get the sucker to show. Yup... to see it "well" you need below 10 percent though between 11-14% you should see the beginnings of it.
Ditch soda... if it's hard move to poweraid instead of soda and then to water. That's what I did. You'll be surprised how much it helps just doing that. Of course you need to drink milk and juices regularly but for the most part, drinking water only will help.
Try to avoid fast food... being a teenager I know it's not easy but the less fast food... the better off you'll be.
Right now I'm only doing 3s X 25r of sit-ups on an incline sit-up bench and 3s X 25r of leglifts on a bench... and only twice a week. I've got a decent 4 pack (I'm bulking right now, I'll rip in two-three months). Str8flexed has a good article on it and it's found here:

Agree with all about low bf its key. Good ab exercises are as such:
Medicine Ball Situps (hold medicine ball over your head and do situp, at top of situp (when you are sitting up) throw ball to a friend and have him throw it back)
Medicine Ball Twists: (lock your feet in underneath your cable rower foot pedals so you are stabalized, lean back a bit and twist from side to side while holding a medicine ball directly out in front of you)
Medicine Ball V-sit: Get into a position that is like a V, you are almost sitting up straight, feet are off ground, knees bent and only thing touch ground is your butt. Hold that position and have a friend throw a medicine ball at your chest and then you throw it back without losing your balance and falling over.
Those are very good strengtheners. With abs I've found real life motions are more effective than the conventional situp. Try those and hanging leg raises too. Also make SURE you work your lower back just as hard. You don't want to create an imbalance otherwise you will get injured and you will not be able to do situps so you'll lose everything you worked so hard for.

dont waste your money on fat burners. there is an old saying; abs are built in the gym, 6 packs are made in the kitchen
Pump or die trying

get a sharpie marker and draw them on, then try to smudge them a little so its not as obvious that you just drew on your stomach with a marker
thats what i do at least, works like a charm, whenever i take my shirt off everyone can't help but stare

Bodyfat is HUGE. Cause if you got a layer of fat, that can cover your precious six pack. But dude seriously you can't just 'get' a six pack. A 'shreaded' toned six pack or whatever your talking about can take up to a year! Now you can get a six pack in a few months..it aint gonna get shreaded..cut, like you see on the bodybuilder models. Just start weightlifting.

Misleading.
There's a BF to Muscle ratio when it comes to abs. Just having 8%BF or less won't give you ripped abs. You need the muscles to be built. The more built they are, the higher BF% you can allow and still see them untill you reach a certain point where you can no longer build them large enough to be seen through the fat, about 12% - 15% normall.
Trust me, you will want to concentrate on working them if you want a untensed, cearly cut six-pack and V shape with obliques

Do some research before posting. Low body fat is the most imorpotant. Cut it down to 3 or 2 times a week. Do weighted ab exercieses, leg reises.
You must have low bodyfat or you wont se them/have them showing without flexing.
Edit : Oh this was posted 6 years ago, why would anyone bring this thread up again....

Low bf, fat goes to your stomach first and leaves last, so its not going to come overnight. Strict diet, cardio and train hard.

Consider adding HIIT and Intermittent Fasting to your program. Your go to guy to Intermittent Fasting would be Brad Pilon and Martin Berkhan. HIIT can be easily learned thanks to Google.
To build abs train them as infrequent as you would with other muscle groups. Instead of doing bodyweight crunches and sit ups consider doing weighted crunches instead. Cable weighted crunches is my personal favourite. Work to increase the weight if possible.
