Who has a better back in your opinion? Dorian Yates or Ronnie Coleman?

I like Dorians better. Lower insertions, ridiculous front to back thickness. His lats and mid-back muscles sprouted off his torso like no other, traps up to his ears. Sick, grainy conditioning that even Ronnie never quite acheived.
Then again I'm racist.
Against Americans. (jk)

Cutlers back may be wider, but i probably wouldnt even put him in the top 5 backs. I say dorian, just a little more detail and middle back thickness, plus, he doesnt have symetry problems as ronnie does.

Don't take Dorian's quote out of context. Dorian said he didn't know who would be better. He conceded Ronnie would outmuscle him, but that he felt he had better balance and conditioning than Coleman. He felt that the judges nowadays would go with Ronnie's muscularity now over the package that he brought.

As for the original question, I don't know, I'll just leave it at Dorian and Ronnie having the two best backs in the world.

I agree, Cutler's finally got the width in his back, but it still needs some thickness and maturity.

yeah and most people here know I am a big ron fan. But I don't think jays back is even close to dorians. Don't get me wrong though jay has a great back and he is young so he very well could be on that list.

I always have wondered why Ronnie stopped his classic Rear Lat Spread where he slowly opened his back and it was just rediculous. Anyway, I prefer Ronnie's back, he looked very good but only for the years 98-2003 after than, Ronnie became a shadow of his former self.
Anyway, I'll give Jay another 2-3 years to see where his development takes him. People don't seem to realize that Jay is one of the youngest BB out there and has been training for far less time than most pros and certainly than any mr. Olympia out there. Although I don't think he'll make the best back category anytime soon. Best backs usually have the detail already then bring it up w/ size, jay took the other way around.

You can have the best body yet loose every show you enter, theres many factors, you need to be shredded, you need to know how to display your body, and fill all the requirements of a competition. For ex my friend that im going to compete with has a much better structure, great insertions, great shape, but im confident that ill beat him, even though technically he has a better body. But ive been posing everyday since ive started, I have more experience dieting, and will generally be better, but not nescessarily have a better body, hope you know what I mean.
OT but does anyone else dislike how sergio hit his double bicep, its very unasthetic, he kept his shoulders very low which makes the lats and torso look alot worse, and only adds abit of extra width, which he didnt need!!

Damn this is a close one but if I had to pick I'd probably have to go with Big Ron. & for those saying Jay's back suck, wow, hop off the bandwaggon, his back is in great condition.

I always liked Yates back more, hes the one that inspired me to start training back alot more. Even in his younger days Ronnie always seemed to have his right lat larger then his left. Back then it wasnt as noticable and the shear size of the whole thing scewed shining light on it. Dorians lats are pretty symetrical, is traps have very slighty symetry issues in the lower ends but nothing noticable (I bet very few have ever picked up on it besides me). Also, for some reason it almost looks like Yates has a longer torso which can make his back look better.
