SLDL & Bentover BB row - increasing stretch

Many years ago, myself and a few others at my gym used to perform SLDL's on a large wooden step-up block, to increase hamstring stretch at the bottom. Last week I saw an old photo of Arnold performing Bentover BB rows, and he was standing on a block of wood (about 4" high), presumably to increase the ROM of the exercise at the bottom.
Anyone else doing this, or seen it?
(Not sure also how modern plastic step-up platforms would cope - presumably they have a significant safety margin to allow very, very big people to do weighted step-ups)?

Yeah, but they have metal platforms that're about a foot off the ground to accomplish the same thing. The nice part is that there's a rack to throw the bar on built onto the platform.

There's a pic attached to this post.

yea i always use a step up

i usually use a 25 kilo plate to stand on. theres nothing worse than hitting the weights on the floor during a set.

From what I've seen, very few people who do SLDLs correctly will actually need this platform.

My gym has an elevated platform for this stuff.

I do bent rows and SLDLs on it, but don't really need to (it is convenient to take the weights off the rack on it)

Here's the photo of Arnold standing on a block doing rows. Obviously the block is of no help in unracking plates, and presumably Arnold has a reason for doing them on the block.

Also, the reason several guys on my old gym many years ago did SLDL on a block was not because we needed to do them this way (I can assure you there was nothing wrong with the way they were performed), it was because we received advice from a competing guy with awesome legs that doing so really hit the hammy's extra hard - we copied it and all experienced greatly improved hammy growth due to it. It was necessary to take a temporary hit on poundage on the exercise.

Are you out there Baldy?
Ever seen rows and SLDL.s done from a block or platform?

I think you have to be elevated to do this movement correctly. I am old school and do this standing on a bench with my shoes removed.
