Whey Protein with milk or water?

Hey guys just registered and i have to say that this is an awesome site. I'm pretty new to supplements and just wanted to know if there is any advantages in taste or development in using milk over water in preparing whey protrein shakes. Any advice would be appreciated.

just depends on the protein. traditional chocolate, vanilla, strawberry flavors taste better with milk... some dont need it some do.

milk is a good source of protein so it does no harm. just added calories

example: muscle milk, is great wihtout milk..(caution, it has Glycocyamine)
but with milk its about 650 calories... thats alot!!

I usually use milk, unless it's right after a workout. Then I'm not so much in the mood for it and just use water.

I maybe wrong , but I heard protien mixed with water absorbs into your system faster , so morning , pre & post workout I use water and bedtime I use milk for a slower absorbtion .

Casien protein found in milk is very slow digesting so depending on the time of the day thats how you should judge to mix your whey with water or milk. In the morning or post workout def. mix it with water. Morning* Mix with water because you want the whey to be quickly absorbed to fight catabolism and lower cortisol from the 7+ hour fast you went on over night. Post workout* again same thing you want to fight off cortisol from an intense workout.

the amount that milk "slows" digestion is not enough to make a difference. IMO it ONLY about preference, if you are really worried about digestion speed opt for free form BCAAs or whey.

milk makes it taste better and thicker. Depends what your goals are, but generally using 1%-skim milk with your shakes is ideal.

As far as digestion/recovery goes, i don't think you'd notice one bit of difference over a year's time from using milk vs. water post workout.

As far as taste, chocolate/vanilla etc. are good in milk.

    Most fruits in water.

I only use water aswell. The reason is to reduce bloat. Mind you im not lactose intolerant or have noticable bloat when using milk but when my bf% is realy low i can notice a slight differance in my physique when using water vs. nonfat milk.

I always bought into the water only post workout, but I've been using milk for about the past month. I was going by common procedure, but when I thought about it for myself, I couldn't figure out why I was doing it.

When mixing with milk you are still getting the easily dissolved whey, and you are adding in some slow-releasing casein; in my opinion a blend is better. That way you have a constant supply of protein in your anabolic window. I haven't gained 30lbs of muscle in the last month or anything, but I also haven't gained 30lbs of fat. I think it really comes down to personal preference, and what you believe about post workout nutrition.
