What should the middle east look like?
This is a question primarily directed as muslims or those who have lived in the middle east, although of course everyones input is welcome. I'd ask that this doesn't turn into a flame thread, but I don't know how much good it will do. Trolls will be trolls.
What governments/cultures in the middle east do you think are currently something that the rest of the region can be modeled after? Which governments do you think provide the best opportunity/freedom for their people?
Is democracy compatible with Islam? If not, what form of government would be best suited?
Is pluralism compatible with Islam?
Do you think the U.S. is being realistic in trying to start up democracies in Afghanistan/Iraq? Is it compatible with the cultures there? Do you think the attempt will be successful?
(My personal choice would be the UAE. I was impressed with the wealth that seemed to be being created in Dubai, Bahrain, etc. and how it seemed to be pretty well distributed (as opposed to Kuwait.) It also seemed someplace where foreigners/christians could feel comfortable and welcome.)

Hmm this thread hasn't turned out like I planned (do they ever?) But I'll attempt to reset the table... (any takers to the questions below?)
What governments/cultures in the middle east do you think are currently something that the rest of the region can be modeled after? Which governments do you think provide the best opportunity/freedom for their people?
Is democracy compatible with Islam? If not, what form of government would be best suited?
Is pluralism compatible with Islam?

Not that I don't appreciate the responses so far, but this wasn't intended to be a 'Islam will take over the world" or "Islam will be wiped out" discussion.

Ottoman Empire tried from 1915, and Kemalists as well, but we've stood tall against much greater empires than the Soviets of the past or anyone around today.
Funny thing about it...we're such a small population today. In Artsakh, we had a population of 100,000 and we declared our independence from a population of 7 MILLION, who had Chechen terrorists helping them as well as the taliban. Russians and the US turned their backs to us and with simple kalishnikovs, we were able to DRIVE ALL MUSLIMS OFF OF OUR HISTORIC CHRISTIAN AND ARMENIAN LANDS.
Come and die, mohamedan, if you want to shade some more Armenian lands. You can do it, but we'll take a lot of you to the after world in the process. Try it.
We are the Israel of Southwest Asia...alone and surrounded by enemies, but far from surrender.

Only monarchies will work in the Mid East. People are too hot-headed and vengeful. Monarchs appease the masses to the point of contentment, which is all they need in that area. Dread democracy or theological government.
pluralism is compatible. Look at almost any country in the mid east!

Every god dam thread ends up that way. You can start a thread about fu*king bread and somehow someone will mention muslims or jews and the flaming begins. I honestly question the age and maturity of some posters here.

I think sometimes people just forget that it's possible for someone to be wrong or even way-out-there-wrong without necessarily being evil.
Democrats = not the source of all evil
Republicans = not the source of all evil
Jews = not the source of all evil
Muslims = not the source of all evil
Christians = not the source of all evil
etc.

From a religious standpoint, I suppose because they made a deal with G-d or they just "got it right" in regards to observance.

Practitioners of every religion think that they are their god's chosen people.
Just like how every parent thinks that their kid is the shiznit, or every kid thinks that their dad could beat up everyone else's dad.

Seriously what kinds of manners are these to come from so-called "religious" posters? That is racism, racism is supposed to be against religion.

Reported. If this isn't banned camp material, I don't know what is. This is blatant anti-Semitism.
What a coward for saying it in a foreign language.
Edit: Mission was already acomplished. Who's "polor azget"ed (sp?) now? .
