Too low? How many calories should I eat? I log my food using fitday.com (very helpful), yesterday I ate... 1210 calories, 30 fat grams, 180 carbs, 60 protein........ the day before that 1284 calories, 46 fat, 176 carbs, 20 protein. I probably need more protein. As for working out/cardio, what can I do other than just running?
I would think 2500 calories would be a good place to start. Remember if you loose weight too fast you will be loosing a lot of muscle with it. The more muscle you loose the less fat you will be able to burn. Loose 2 lbs a week maximum to keep muscle loss to a minimum.

    EAT MORE PROTEIN!!!
You should get at least 200g of protein a day at the bare minimum.

    Cardio:
    Ride a bike
Elliptical trainers - these are great, low impact!
    Rowing machines
    Stair machines
    Jump rope
Heck I have even heard of people squatting with low weights for their cardio. You can do just about anything that gets your heart rate up there.

2500 seems like a lot. I feel fine just eating 1500 a day and drinking lots of water. Maybe I'll go above that a little. I'm going to go to the market today and look for high protein stuff; nuts, peanut butter, chicken, steak, tuna, some protein bars/shakes.

In the past two months I haven't been doing cardio. So I just started that today. I have a treadmill at home, so I just did a 5 minute warm-up at 3mph. Then ran at 5.5mph for 30 secs, recovered for 1 minute at 3mph. Then repeated this process until 30 mins was up. It was pretty tough, but I guess I felt better afterwards. Hopefully this helps?! Thanks.

I think this week i'm going to go bare minimum. Gonna do cardio everyday and eat little but right. I just realized that my protein shake alone has 270 calories. Which is perfect imo for breakfast.

I think I'm going to try and lose weight ONCE AGAIN.

I want to excel in sports when school starts and be in better physical shape. At this point, physical appearance isn't even a factor. I've gained almost 60 POUNDS since last summer, and I am disgusted.

I'm not sure if the scale I weighed myself on last, was accurate...If it was, I am 230lbs. My goal is 185lbs. It's a farfetched goal before football starts, in September. If I get to 190-195, I'd be very happy.

I am sick of counting calories and what not; I'm especially tired of counting carbs, protein, and fat. I'm just going to be aware of what I eat, get a LOT of exercise in, and keep a calorie deficit.
I rep back for those with 1k+ rep power.

    Thumbs up Welcome

Welcome bud...you have some to loose but there are tons of articles...read the stickies and ask questions if you can't find it...people will help out. I recommend going to www.fitday.com and start logging everything you eat and workouts. For help on here you should also start a thread of your own and post updates either daily or weekly it's up to you...as long as it's somewhat current. This should help keep you motivated. Good luck!

Wow i am really happy. I finnaly met my goal that i've wanted to get down to before this friday and that was 230.. i am 229, i reached this point yesterday. I rewareded myself with my favorite ice cream parlor, only got the small size, but it was still a nice reward, also i didn't go to my gym yesterday.. and i didnt go today, but today it was because i was on the phone with this one girl i havn't talked to in like 3 months until 7 in the morning... and i couldn't wake up.. but still

I am erally happy that i got this far, i tried loosing weight b4 and i got to 235 but never below. My next goal is 220, at that stage, i think i will reward myself with a new wardrobe and some better running shoes, etc. I'm just happy that i got this far, really couldn't have done it without bb.com. It's funny cuz its not even that much, i was 242-245 b4..so that's only 12 lbs, but i just never really met a weight loss goal b4, and for the first time i did. My dad didn't even think i can do it, and i did something. I hope this only means better things and i can continue on my stride to get to 200!

Thanks for listening to me... Love BB.com

    I'm new here

    Hi,

My name is Drew, im 17 years old and have been overweight most of my life. When i was 15 i lost alot of weight and managed to get down to 70kilos (154 pounds).

I was happy with life, but then i got lazy again a few months later and ballooned up to 112kilos (254 pounds i think is right). Anyway, i was sick of the way i looked, i got a job and quit because i thought people were laughing as they went through my register, i'm very nervous when im out, i'm always tugging at my clothing to try hide my body and i never look up.

I joined a gym at 16, went for a week and sort of burnt out (lost interest) and never went again,

When i turned 17 i've joined another gym and went for a week and lost interest. This time i really want to make it work, my brother's getting married next april, i want to go to concerts and stuff but im too afraid of how i look, and no one picked to go with me to the formal this year, which add's to me not feeling great.

This was really until tonight, i was looking for a gaming website online and somehow got redirected to this site, i clicked on the link to this topic and read what some of you have done. Through the posts i've read you people are inspiring, i'm amazed at how you are going (keep it up!)

The main things i need help with are managing an exercise routine and an eating plan, this is what the gym instructors told me to do:

    Eating Plan:

    Brekky: Bowl Of Porriage
Snack: Protein Shake or Piece of Fruit
Lunch: Sandwich(wholemeal or brown bread) with salad and 200g of meat, or it might be 500g, not sure
Snack: Protein Shake or piece of fruit
Dinner: Piece of meat and vegetables (stay away from potato)

    And my Exercise:
    40mins on treadmill
    Lat Pulldowns (weight 40, 20reps each x 2)
Leg Press (no added weights, just pushing up the platform thingo) 20reps x 2
    Bench Press (40kg, 12reps x2)

I sometimes cant be bothered with weights and just do 1hour on the treadmill, but i end up with blisters if i do that lol and don't feel like going back,

I for once want to look good, not for anyone else, but for me, so i have the confidence to walk through a shopping center with my head up, not tugging at my clothes and maybe get another job,

Anyway, any advice would be helpful, the stories i've read here are really inspirational,

    -Drew

Edit: Also i might add i try skip school (in year 11) because i hate the way i look in the school uniform, my man boobs look like they stick out and im embarrassed to go to school because of they way i look in the uniform.

Edit 2: Sorry, it's late, i have to add my target weight is to be 200pounds (90kilos) i'd be happy to be that, although lighter would be nice, my target is 200pounds to start with.

    Smile Lets keep this rolling!

It's time I did something. I'm 6'4" and about 310 (my scale only goes to 305 and I'm not much over that) and am going to lose at least 60lbs. I started out college at 213lbs but in the years since then just slowly added 15-20lbs/year (like a lot of other people do). I've dieted here and there and have lost 10-15lbs now and then only to gain it back fairly quickly. It's time I do this before I wake up one day and realize that I've wasted another 5-6yrs of my life not feeling real healthy and not being truely happy with myself. I'm going on the weight watchers point system (which I really like and have all of the info for but I don't need to go to meetings or anything) and will be walking for at least 30mins in the morning 4+days a week and lifting weights 3 days a week (might do a small HST program with a few compound lifts). I want my old clothes to fit, I want to set a better example for my daughter and my other child (on the way in January) and I just want to feel better and see some of that muscle that's hiding under the fat! I now realize that this MUST be a life change and not a change for just 10-12months. So, I feel confident that I'll stick to the points and make sure I have a balanced diet and drink lots of water along with my exercise (will probably start to jog once I get under 300lbs). I think my only problem is setting timeline goals (I know my goals but I want to set a time table for them to happen). As long as I'm losing weight monthly it really shouldn't matter. I will post on here atleast weekly and give updates on my diet and weigh-ins (I am going to try to only weight myself once a week). So, right now this is my first day and I weight 310 with a goal weight of 250 (will see when I get there if I can lose 5-10lbs and realisticly keep it off, I do have a large frame with some muscle so based on past experience 240-250 should be a good weight). Thanks everyone! I want to see people posting with their experiences and results along with any help they may need (diet, exercise or motivational help)!

GL to both of you guys.

My first day of school was on the 5th, and gee man I should tell you I feel way better from going down from 235 to 192, still not ripped or whatever. but feel better and have more confidence and I actually talk to girls but I was still made "fun" of by some kid in the bus (6th grader) saying "wanning join my running community" and I didnt know what he was talking about untill my little brother was saying he was making fun of all the chubby/fat kids. so I got pissed. because my bro said I used to be huge/obese, oh well at least I get more respect from highschoolers then middleschoolers.

First off - You started!!!! This is a great place to get info. You can always look up Exercises and try different ones out from here.

Now you have to keep it up. Just remember that Rome wasn't built in a day. It will take time but you can do it.

The cardio will burn fat but you need to do it at least 3 times a week.

    Weight Training.
Suck it up bud. You need to do it 3 times a week and you can not avoid it when you "don't feel like it."
Today I hit 3 personal records in weight lifted and I almost didn't even work out today. I got to the gym and lookd at the weights and then the tredmill and almost didn't lift. It is common but I bit the bullit and worked out. Im now sore typing this but its the "good sore." The one you get when you know you didn't cheat and gave it everything you got.

    Your work out:

It is a start. I would add in some arm exercises like DB or BB curls. You will want to build up your arms, everyone does.
Try and do 3 sets in each Exercise. I know you will have to work it up but try it. You will want to do more than 2 sets to see a change. Don't worry about how much yet. Get the steady movement down and work on your form. You can do it.
Im now a Gym Rat. Love working out. Weight not dropping much but I am dropping Body Fat.

    Well...

I'm heading back to gym tomorrow (I was a bit too busy today),

The guy who signed me up and all that said i should differ between cardio and weights like this:

    Monday: Cardio + weights
    Tuesday: Cardio
    Wednesday: Cardio + weight
    Thursday: Cardio
And so one, something about rebuilding muscle? or letting it relax,

Anyway, i've got support this time, i've told my two best friends what i want to do and why, explaining every (my job, all that) and they said they'll support me in any way i need it. They said if i want they'll ring ask me at school each morning if i went to gym and keep an eye on what i eat when im around them. I have to control my eating too, but support from this is a great helper, they really are great friends.

So tomorrow i should be gymming again, i want to lose weight by summer (4-5months away now) because i want to be able to wear a shirt/t-shirt and not have these man-boobs looking crappy, haha.

What are some good exercises to get rid of chest weight? just cardio?

Last thing, can someone check my diet out please (4-5posts up) and tell me if it's ok.

    Thanks,

    -Drew

    Drew,

Your diet is ok but hard to tell how much you are eating. Try that web site fitday.com It helps log what you eat and helps a lot. Let us know more detail. 5 or 6 small meals a day ONLY if you are WORKING HARD!!!

    Man boobs huh? 3 things

    1) Diet
    - you need to watch your intake of everything. Too much fat/carb/ protien will just turn to fat and guess where it will go.

    2) Cardio
    - Cardio 3 times a week will help you shed pounds. If walkng a tred mill - DO NOT HOLD ON. Let you arms swing and that will help your upper body a bit. Not a lot but a much better work out than holding on. Also - If you are doing your cardio the same time you are working out with weights, on the same day, do the cardio AFTER you work out. That has been proven to help.

    3) Chest program
    - GET ONE. You will want to add some muscle behind that mass in your chest. It will firm it up and the manboob thing will sloly go away.
Start with Flat barbell Bench and as you build up your strength, start to include some other chest exercises like inclined Dumbell raises. 3 sets and start light and work up. Start with light DBs and then the next weight up then the next. 10 reps / 8 reps / 6 reps. Try adding in Cable flys or DB flys. There is a pretty good list on this site with pictures
    http://www.e-weightloss-fitness.com/...ises_map.shtml

Keep me up to date on how you are doing.
Im now a Gym Rat. Love working out. Weight not dropping much but I am dropping Body Fat.

    Hi, My Name is Dan.

    i am overweight, 240-6feet.

    3 months ago i was 265.

I am and was very athletic, and strong, and not overweight, was good at baseball, soccer, and hockey.

But then i started packing on the weight when i was 11 or 12(soon after parents split up). I was a stress eater, or depessed eater i suppose.

    I still played sports, but was 165 at 13,185 at 14, 200 by 15, and 220 by 16.

I went on a sort of diet that my father was on at 16, he lost 50 lb's over 6 months(and has kept it off) i lost 20 or so pounds(and grew more, so i was slender), I had the best hockey season ever, we won the championshsips, i was one of the top players.

So now i was 6feet 190-200 or so,.

Then I got a job at Mcdonalds !! i went up to 245lb after working their a year, stayed at that weight for another tear. I then put on 20lb's over a winter, and was able to stop my gaining.

I was proud of myself that i didn't put on any more weight when i caught myself at 265.

Abut 3 months ago i decided to now start losing weight.

I weighed myself this morning at 237, I have been weight training for almost 2 years.

My goal is 225-230 by Oct 1st.

The difference this time is that I want it, and not only that, i am educated enough to now know how to make sure i don't gain weight.

When i put on 20lb's over winter, I was eating 1000Caloie meals 3 times a day.

Your body doesn't utilize meals over 700 calories well, and that many calories per meals spurs your body to store fat.

So i started eating around 2000-2500 calories a day over 4-7 meals a day.

I have also read a lot on Thermogenics Kinesiology, Bariometrics, Fat metoboisation, Weight training, human physiology, nutrition.

The 1 factor that helped me was self motivation.

I was motivated to lose weight, so i read, and then i was motivated to follow through.

The onyl thing u need is motivation that change is needed, and than following through.

    Dan-
That is pretty good (28lbs in 3 months). I hope to have the same type of results myself. So far I've been doing pretty good myself. My pants fit looser and my belt is starting to get a little lose (it wants to kick it down a notch). You don't have much farther to go so keep it up. Good things come to those who wait. It took me about 3 yrs to gain the 60lbs that I want to lose so I need to realize that waiting 8 + months to take it off is not a bad deal. This time it's for good.

You sound a lot like me. Only I never got down to 150 odd lb.

First off, stick at it!!! I started in October, learned a lot, got down from about 280 to 250, and then got lazy and I reckon I'm around 260 now, I'm back on it as of today and I'm going to be working hard for the short term goals (1 stone every so often).

My opinion however is that the food your eating is going to become boring very very fast. Eat more for your breakfast and try and mix things up a bit, instead of a tuna sandwhich have a tuna wrap now and again and so on. I would really recommend more for breakfast though.

If I'm wrong in any of this, a more knowledgable member can correct me, this is just my suggestion, whatever you do will work, some just better than others.

Do not skip school because of your weight
Put yourself in a position to succeed, if you stick at this, you will, and you'll have just wasted an a year of school for nothing.
What looks bad on you now may look good in 4 months time

In January 2003 I weighed 308lbs and thought I was doing ok with my size until i saw the family Christmas photos. I was shocked. I never thought I looked that big, face bloated and the like. I decided to join ww and was determined to lose some serious weight. I had always been big but I was extremely active right through my teens and early twenties.
Joined ww late Jan 03 and by July-August I had managed to shift 49lbs. Then I joined a gym and hit the weights and started researching BB. I guess I read to much about eating and thought I had a license to eat anything because I was putting away anything I could find. Slowed down on the cardio and incresed the weights. Come now and my weight is up to 280 and my BF% is 24.5.
After reading the success stories and seeing the support offered by people in similar situations I have been inspired to begin losing weight for good this time. My goals are simple, I would like to hit 240 and reduce my BF% to 15.
I am going home (Australia) in December for 3 weeks and would like to shock and shut a few people's mouths. So here goes. I will be looking at fitday.com and if anyone has any other suggestions they are more than welcome.

    Cheers

    Keep it up!

All of us are with you here. If you need to talk or some support, you came to the right place. Just keep at it. Hit the gym and keep up the cardio.

I know a lot of guys on sites like Flex.com just tell you to eat big to get big. The problem with us is that we are ALREADY Big, just in the wrong context. You will need to do some serious cardio. Keep up with the weight training but do cardio 3 days a week. Try to split it from your work out so as to get the most out of both. Example:

    Weight training:
    Mon - Wed - Fri

    Cardio:
    Tue - Thur - Sat

Sunday - Rest (you need that too)

Keep us up to date and dont be afraid to post your stats.
Im now a Gym Rat. Love working out. Weight not dropping much but I am dropping Body Fat.
