    Squats and Osgood Schlatter's disease

Hey, I've been working out for about 8 months now (I'm 17), I've gone from 6'4" 150-155 to 6'5" 170-175, made some pretty good progress.
I've got quite strong legs/back from working on a farm for years.

Over the summer Osgood Schlatter's disease set in on my knees...for those who don't know what it is, it's an inflammation of the bone right below the knee, it fills with fluid, pulls on the tendon, and hurts like all hell if I don't wear braces.

When I do squats I have a terrible time with my knees causing immense amounts of pain (I do 5x5 245 lbs). Could I be hurting myself/slowing the healing process, should I go for lighter weight until it's gone (doctor says 6 months to 3 years), or do I just need to suck it up?

I believe osgood shatlers sets in before a growth spurt. It eventually goes away.

    Have you tried leg press?

I have it too (mine has gone down)

PLEASE do not squat for like 4 weeks until you see it go down a little

At some point the tendon can be damaged beyond repair and you wont grow out of it.
just give it a little time

Oh no, please don't say that. As far as height is concerned, I'm a freak of nature.

Yeah, but it really doesn't compare to squats :-\

I just started doing squats a few weeks ago when college started, I hope I haven't done permanent damage. I think I'd better call my doctor heh.

Ask your doctor/trainer, they would be the ones who would likely be able to give you some solid advise (I cant because i have never heard of this disease before).

dude, trust me STAY OFF YOUR KNEES! When i was like 15 i got that **** and the doctors told me to stay off them, but i kept playing ice hockey, they eventually swelled up so bad the were practically black and blue, to this day, there still pretty sore, and the lump below my knee are much biggger than normal.

Don't train squat. You can build muscle whenever you want. You can't repair permanently damaged limbs whenever you want.
