Keto and AM workouts
Hello all,
I am starting a new job on Monday and the only time I will be able to workout is around 6am. My question is how long do I wait after I workout to start eating fats. I figure I can have Meal 1 at 5:00 and then my PWO shake around 7. I would usually eat meal 2 around 8:00, should I skip this or maybe wait 3 hours so eat around 10?

That is almost my schedule: I get up at 4:20 eat at 4:40 hit the gym for 6:00 and eat again at 7:00. Then again at noon and 5:30 and maybe something light at 8:00. I pretty much try to stay with the program but protein is easily 60% or more of AM calories. Dex in the am makes me sleepy- I've experimented with oatmeal and it seems to work much better for me. When I eat oatmeal PWO it is 1/4 cup dry, 1/2 cup water, and 1 packet of splenda microwaved for 1 minute- works like a champ.

Thanks for the reply. So what you are saying is that you have your PWO shake/meal at 7 and don't eat any fats until 12. I guess I am asking how long should I wait after working out to eat fats again.

I eat fat with all meals- just not as much in the AM. Is it optimal? I don't know. Is it really my only practical option? yes.

Are you lot vampires or something? There's no way I could drag myself out of bed at 4am in order to do squats.
65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs = keto.

Well if it has been working for you and like you said it seems as though we have similar schedules so I guess it is my only practical option. I guess I will just have to test it out and see what works best for me.

You would if that is the only time you have to workout. Plus the gym is pretty DEAD at that time.

oh I love a dead gym... I can finally use a Swiss ball without the big boys laughing at me...
rmortillaro I think you're doing just fine... overall it really won't make a real big difference... unless you are on TKD and want a big insulin spike... but even then it's kinda always up for debate how big a deal how fat can interfere... 1 hr afterwards is certainly far enough afterwards from your PWO but if I were you I'd just eat when I'm hungry... if your PWO is all you need for 3 hours... then why not? that will help you space out your 6+ meals a day.

Well most of the people are pretty old, but I don't think they have hit zombie yet.

My schedule is pretty much down to the minute like yours johnny. It was hard to get used to the first two weeks but after that it was natural and easy to do. It does suck waking up at 6 fully energized on the weekends tho haha!. I like having the whole gym to myself and take peace in knowing I've accomplished something for the day even if work sucks. I am cutting now too, so it gives me an opportunity now to do cardio when i get home. I could do cardio in my sleep, squats are another story !

Is it summer yet?
Been working out at 5am for 2 years here. General schedule is up at 4am, eat, in gym by 5. Have PWO shake around 6:30, (after light cardio and shower), then full keto breakfast by around 8-8:30 depending on work load. Been working fine for me this way.
