GMOs are plants and animals that have had their genetic make-up altered to exhibit traits that are not naturally theirs. In general, genes are taken (copied) from one organism that shows a desired trait and transferred into the genetic code of another organism...
I wasn't aware that there were GMOs in Protein powder...
...and protein powder isn't "egg whites in a jar"... unless you were alluding to something that I'm not aware exists.

If processed foods were carcinogenic, most of Western civilization would have died out by now

last time I checked, ronnie coleman was looking pretty damn good :P
I don't think there's any harm in eating protein powder, as it's just the whey removed from some process of making... milk I think... or cheese, or something like that..
the bottom line is, thousands upon thousands of people use protein powder as a supplement, and most of them are very athletic people... and studies have shown that the more athletic you are, the lower your chance is for cancer, and a PLETHORA of other diseases.
peace out mang

the only time protein is really carcinogenic is when you cook it with direct heat, it does somethin to one of the amino acids

Where did you get that GMO's are carcinogenic?
BTW, 1) too much of anything can kill you 2) if all this crap out there is suppose to be killing people with cancer and so forth, think of how life expectancy has increased 3) processing can happen on completly different levels and mean completly different things to an individual.

damn wolfpilp mad bumpage..
corple what you're referring to is the carcinogens produced by cooking over a flame (i.e. grilling/bbqing). They're called HCAs and they occur when amino acids react with creatine at high temperatures. Grilling over a flame is the worst, so broiling is a better option. Also, and I'm speculating, it seems intuitive to me that meats highest in creatine (beef cuts) would yield the most reactions.
I like to marinate my meat in an acid, garlic and onions, and extra virgin olive oil. The olive oil may not be a good idea, since it's easily oxidized, but the onions and the garlic are actually protective because they've been shown to lower the amount of carcinogens produced (probably because of their antioxidant properties).
The benefit is two-fold however, because garlic is one of nature's best antibiotics, and the combination of the acid, allicin and sulfides in garlic, and (optional) salt in the 'marinade' not only helps tenderize the meat a bit, but also kills surface bacteria (and as we know, only ground meat must be cooked thoroughly to prevent sickness, whereas whole cuts of beef are more 'sanitary' on the inside). These two results ultimately lead to my favorite thing - less cooking time.
I'll argue till the day I die, you can't beat rare meat...
Note: finely chop your garlic and then "crush" it with the back of your blade by dragging it along the cutting board with some coarse salt. This unlocks the garlic's antibiotic potential because it depends on a reaction that only occurs when the cells are crushed (and the salt helps draw out the contents). Allow it to sit for a minute before rubbing into your meat or throwing it into the marinade bag/bowl.

If the cows the whey protein came from were given anti-biotics or rBGH(Posilac), then in that case yes.
"The sale of Posilac is illegal in virtually every developed country with the exception of the United States. Recent studies have shown that lab rats absorbed IGF-1 during the digestive process, which subsequently caused cysts and other cancerous growths to form in the test animals' flesh. Despite numerous official requests for the FDA to revoke the approval for Monsanto's product, no such action has been taken thus far."

As most of us know the FDA is highly corrupt, so it should be no suprise that it isn't banned in the US also.
