Ugh.

Your non-workout friend's legs may be bigger (very doubtful), but they are NOT in better condition than Arnold's. Don't delude yourself.

Maybe, maybe not. There are still a few reasonable looking guys near the top (Dexter Jackson being the best I can think of)
The 'sport' has always been a subculture, but today it's just a grotesque sideshow.

It's mostly the drugs: eating and training doesn't take you very far compared to the effects of growth hormone, insulin, more powerful anabolics, etc.

'bodybuilding criteria' implies objectivity, but it's all blatantly subjective, with a definite favoritism shown toward size. Otherwise, Dexter Jackson would be Mr. Olympia right now (he probably should be, even with his non-existent calves).

Sure, some did look freaky. So you can imagine how the public perceives today's grotesque drug freaks.
I've been following bodybuilding since the mid-70's. Bev Francis was the first bber I considered a freak, though Sergio Oliva and Lou Ferrigno were monsters as well.

Zane had the best legs ever.
Gigantic thunder quads look retarded. In 1945, Adolf Hilter died and went to Hell. Satan asked, "why are you in Hell?" He replied, "I am responsible for the massacre of millions" Satan said, "well done, sit to the right of my throne." In 1953, Joseph Stalin died and went to Hell. Satan asked, "why are you in Hell?" And yes there is a favoritism towards size... But I recall Arnold Beating Franco who had a much better overall package many times... why, because he was bigger. You can't avoid rewarding size when some one is so outsized it is hard for them to fairly be compared.
Grotesque freakshow or not, I love it... and I know plenty of other people who do to... I wasn't around in the 70's but I think this sport is great and doing fine aside from polotics, which is unavoidable.
And even Dexter Jackson is much more improved and feaky looking than the boys back in arnolds day.

I can understand not beleiving me about my friend, but his legs and calfs have striations in them, and cuts... with veins bulging from his calfs... never saw striations in arnolds.
*** Maybe you can post a pic of your buddy's legs?

*** Franco was good, but had flaws Arnold didn't have. Can you show me some pics where they're together and Franco is besting Arnold?

*** Glad you love it. I used to love bodybuilding-type lifting myself. I was skinny as hell in high school, but eventually got to 190 in decent shape. You're looking sharp yourself - good arms - hope you stay 100% clean, no drugs of any kind.
And even Dexter Jackson is much more improved and feaky looking than the boys back in arnolds day.
*** He has a great physique. Awesome back-double-biceps. With a decent set of calves he could be the man.
