What excuses have you overcome to workout or do cardio?
This is to motivate all the people that have these great excuses why they can't get to the gym and exercise. I'll get us started with some of my own. I workout on a 5 day split with 3 seperate cardio sessions in between.
1. I can't find the time!-
I work 60+ hours a week and I drive 45min. to and from work.
2. I have a wife and kids!-
I have a wife and 3 kids that I find time to spend with.
3. Im tired when I get off of work and can't seem to get motivated.-
Ok here's my schedule for those of you who are tired after work.
( remember I have to drive 45min. to work and back.)
Mon. 8:00am to 8:30pm
Tue. 8:00am to 1200pm
Wed. 8:00am to 6:00pm
Thur. 8:00am to 8:30pm
Fri. 8:00am to 6:00pm
Sat. 8:00am to 6:00pm
Sun. off work.
4. I can't do my cardio because im sore from doing lower body exersises.-
Ive got a torn ACL and it still doesn't stop me from running and yes I do Squats and lower body as well.
5. Im going out with the guys this weekend so I'll skip this workout.
This is how it all begins. We've all been there. Dedication is all I can say.
*I get tired as well but something has to seperate me from all the other non-motivated people in the world. This thread isn't supposed to hurt anybody's feelings but lets face it from time to time we get people that lose thier motivation. The people that lift 4 or 5 days a week and do cardio a few times a week don't have perfect schedules they just have different priorities.

Chi- your so right bro. You have to stay motivated.
What is it that seperates average athletes and good or great athletes?
"Heart" You have to want it worse than them.

If you people are ever feeling lazy and you need somebody to kick you in the ass check out this person's schedule. "Motiv8you" Ask Chi-town about her schedule she has all of us beat.

I can honestly say that I have never had an excuse not to workout. I live in the South. Examples: One crazy Winter we had an ice storm so bad that there was ice several inches think on all of the roads and highways. Not even the police were out. But, Mark gets up at 5:00 a.m. and travels in his car at 30 mph to the gym and took 50 minutes to get there, only to find it closed! It took another 50 minutes to get back home at 35 mph. Still did pushups and pullups and militaries with my K-Mart set, LOL.
This morning, it was raining so bad that it was flooding in most areas. I got up at 4:45 a.m. like any other morning to go workout. I could not drive more than 45 mph and could barely see it was raining so bad. Got there, it was open. Had a great workout.
Last year, we thought Hurricane Rita was going to hit us directly. I got up that morning at 4:45 a.m. and went to workout. HUNDREDS of people were already out in their cars going North, to escape what we thought was going to be very bad. The gym was South, so got there no problemo. There was 3 other people there. We could see the highway from the gym windows, and going North, it was bumper-to-bumper for 200 miles (yes, 200 miles). I worked out, but I was scared to death. Never been that scared, because I thought that I was stuck and thought I could not get home. I was literally freaking out. BUT, with all that trafiic, I decided to go the back way home, and praise God ALMIGHTY, I got home within 30 minutes, because not many people thought of that way. If I had waited just 30 more minutes, I would have been stranded.
Three examples of my OCD!! LOL

I have a wife and 4 kids. Wife and I go to the same gym, which also has child care. We planned it that way. Talk to your wife..ger her ass to the gym too. Not only will you get more time together when you are older, but you can also make sure you will enjoy that time with active pursuits more stimulating than Bingo at the local lodge.

Work out before work. I do. Then I come home, shower and go to work. Its a good deal. Besides, you have the excuse to go to bed early if the aforementioned wife and kids are being a pain the night before.

Then don't do cardio. I don't. Find something else to do in the gym. Set up your workout to reflect what you prefer to do.

If you can re-arrange your schedual to fit in party time, you can re-arange your workout schedual to make sure your party recovery time falls on an 'off day'. It really isn;t tough. That way, you recover from drinking and lifting on the same day and don't miss the workout.

6 days a week actually, and not really. It's just a matter of thinking it out. Then again, I have fun in the gym, so it isn't really enough of a chore for me to ever make excuses for. If somethign becomes a hassle or a chore, it becomes a variable that needs to be changed. If the drive to the gym is too long..find a closer gym or build a home gym. Everything has a solution.

"I'm too drunk." & "I'm too fat."
I had to overcome both of these. First, I had to quit drinking because drinking was the number one priority in my life. After I had done so, I ate lots of ice cream to replace the sugars I was missing from the alcohol. Well, that made me fat. After being tired of being sick and tired of being fat, I started dieting and lost weight with cardio. After I started lifting again, I felt 100% better about myself and created a goal to get into the best shape of my life. Got a ways to go, but I am excited for the ride.

Well…. Yesterday a 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck a neighbor island and the entire state lost power (from 7am yesterday to 3am today). So the gym was closed. Those pussies!!! I ended up just riding the elliptical at home and doing physical therapy exercises.

I get off work at 3:30, and usually by 2:00 I'm thinking hard about skipping out and going home. But I have everyday planned, so I know I have to get in there or it throws my whole week off. And when I get started, I usually end up staying in the gym longer then I wanted. Which isn't a bad thing. And by the time I get home, I'm not tired anymore and have more energy. It's usually when I skip out is when I go home, nap for a couple of hours, and am completly usless, which isn't good.
So basicly no excuses, just do it.

Well, I admit to missing a couple of workouts last week.
My close friend attempted suicide, and I lost my job.
...once in a while, I think I can miss a workout.
But I was back in the gym today (despite finding out there wasn't enough $$ to cover my final paycheck when I went to the bank)
Hey, at least my life is never boring.

"I'm always traveling for work."
This is a tough one, but not impossible to overcome. There are good gyms to be found in nearly every city in the world. Some of my most memorable workout experiences have been in local gyms in smaller Asian cities. There, a "foreigner" coming in to workout becomes somewhat of a celebrity, so you could have all sorts of curious onlookers watching your every rep. I once had a bunch of schoolkids applaud me after completing bench presses.

I do not understand this. For me it's more like:
"Im going out with the guys this weekend so I'll skip this rest day."
I think what Minotaur said is the real killer. Followed closely by "I don't make any progress anyway, so why bother at all?"
But here's one of my own:
"My joints are killing me".
Regards,
Aquilius

Man, me too... considering I'm still reeling from my dad being on life support a year ago, and my mom's death - and the attendant financial stresses.
I know things will get better... but stable almost seems like too much to hope for!

I hate cardio just because its so damn boring. But I want to lose 10 pounds by January so I'll be back at it with a well-loaded iPod to combat the boredom.
