Complete meal solution/ gainer shake substitute

Do you think it would be practical to make a sort of complete pelletized meal substance in one's kitchen? Just using stuff from the groc. store and maybe off the 'net. Think of it as a substitute for gainer shakes or something, much better than "ensure". Any suggestions?

Maybe I could just blend all the stuff in a blender, add flavoured agar soln., pour in square pan and allow to set..... then divide, weigh and freeze

If anyone is having a hard time eating oats or getting enough calories. Stop and listen to this post. Grinding steel cut oats up in a coffee grinder and throwing them in a shake is by far the easiest way to slam them down not to mention you can make some extremely cheap weight gainer shakes that are very good for you.

Step 1:
Buy a coffee grinder. They are cheap and you can buy them almost anywhere. I bought one at Target but anyplace like Walmart will have them. Here's an example:

http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000BRLXUI

Step 2:
Go to this website and use the store locator to find a retailer close to you to purchase this product. This stuff is gold. 560 calories per cup and the store by my house sells it for .99 cents a pound!

https://www.bobsredmill.com/catalog/...product_ID=279

Look at the nutritional value on this stuff:

Nutritional Information for
Steel Cut Oats
Serving Size 1/4 cup(40g)
Servings Per Container 17.00
Calories 140.00
Calories from Fat 25.00
Total Fat 2.50g
Saturated Fat 0.50g
Trans Fat 0.00g
Cholesterol 0.00mg
Sodium 0.00mg
Total Carbohydrate 27.00g
Dietary Fiber 4.00g
Sugars 0.00g
Protein 6.00g
Ingredients whole grain oats

Step 3:
Grind oats up with coffee grinder and throw them in your favorite shake. If they oats are took thick in your shake just add more milk/water.

EVERY day I have serveral of the following shakes.

16oz ice cold skim milk
1/2 ground steel cut oats
1 scoop of ON whey.

571 calories
77 grams of carbs
53 grams of protein
7 grams of fat.

Obviously you can experiment with whatever you want to throw in there. Any fruits, peanut butter, etc etc. work perfectly.

Talk about a cheap, high quality shake that is easy to make and takes under a minute to drink.

Steel cut or old fashioned, it's all good. Not a huge difference between the two considering we are grinding em up. Slight GI difference?

There's a possibility of a slight GI difference. If you grind oats up you are left with oats either way but steel cut oats are very calorie dense.

I'm not an expert on oats, but comparing steel cut to regular rolled oats there's hardly a difference in calories. Steel cut appears to have an additional gram of protein and a little less fat.

Do we have to cook the oats first then only throw it in or can we just throw the oats into the blender? cause it says that oats has to be cooked that kinda thing.

just throw the oats in dry. no cooking needed.

i got a Magic Bullet (not the sex toy) last year. ($40 at target/walmart?)

a full cup of that is what I use as my weight gainer.. few staples in each, as in whey/milk/pb/oats, but throwing in a few berries or olive oil, etc, REALLY changes the taste of each. And you're lookin at over 1000 cal for what takes 2-3 min to make.

To replace a gainer shake, I would try to eat whole foods that pack the most punch. Fats come to mind for one (olive oil, peanut butter, nuts, avocado, etc).. so I know it'll be packed with fat. Next would be protein.. at least 40g for me... and without using supplements I don't see anything viable except some sort of animal protein or fish.
