Can drinking a lot of coffee hinder wt. loss?
I drink about 6 cups a day and put a splash of milk each time and splenda. I probably use between 1/4 and 1/2 c. of milk and do leave room in my calorie count for that. I also drink a gallon of water or more a day so it's not getting in the way of water intake. Anyway, will it slow my weight loss and muscle building down?

Cracking up!
I'm right there with you!! Mine are 9 months and 2 yrs, and my vice is diet coke, but our cause, method, and effect are definitely the same. I asked this same question a few months ago. Unfortunately, I am still depending on caffeine to get through my days. Fortunately, it's apparently one less thing we have to feel guilty about.
Cheers!

Actually, too much caffeine can lead to adrenal exhaustion which has many side-effects, among them fat retention around the mid section.

I have boy/girl also, named Cole and Morgan. Yeah, my guess is, by the time they are two and really talking a lot, they will be counting out reps with me!

this should be noted.
For those of you who drink a lot of coffee. If you find the coffee no longer wakes you up, and you feel drowsy and exhausted all the time, you should go off coffee for a couple months. This happened to me.
Now, if the coffee is working, and you aren't upping your dose, etc. You are fine.

Work In Progress
I'm about to go through caffeine weaning soon, as I am experiencing effects of either too much coffee for me or too much long term caffeine use.
Lord, I feel like a drug addict, as I contemplate the thought of not having my morning black coffee, three mugs full.
But, it's not doing the trick anymore and I'm feeling the effects.

Has anyone every tried those EmergenC's (I think thats how you spell it)? It's a powder full of vitamins mixed with water. Does that give you a boost?

Work and Play
The Greeks had the right idea, as the premise for Greek society was "everything in moderation"....this would apply to coffee. It is most strategic when used before training, as it (one 8 oz. serving) has a slight thermogenic effect and is shown to increase the number of calories burned. If you drink surplus amounts (think "gigantic mugs") throughout the day then most likely you'll become immune to the effects, or worse, may experience fatigue as a result of overstimulation. It's really ideal to keep your energy levels consistent and not spike them constantly, as "what goes up, must come down" and you will inevitably experience a valley for each peak...which neccesitates another cup of coffeee...and they cycle repeats.
***I don't have twins, but I work in a daycare and oversee 11 children under the age of 4. I am a reformed coffee addict, and I have to say I feel much better if I just have a jolt in the AM upon waking and in the PM just before working out.

RJC,
Yes, I have used these but mostly for when I am sick or under the weather and am looking for some extra Vit C. Truth be told, I did not see any difference in energy at all. But, it can't hurt to try one, since it appears they are good for you and certainly no more harmful than coffee. The good thing is, in most health food stores, you can buy one packet at a time, so no real financial investment to give it a shot.
