    you need to be able to get your hand at least a couple inches above the rim. just go to a rim, jump up and figure out from there.

    When I was 5'11 I could reach 7'3. That meant that I needed to jump 33 inches to touch the rim and around 38 inches to dunk. If you want to improve your vertical jump anywhere from 13 to 30+ inches I recommend Air Alert. It is a program that you do for several months and at the end you have amazing results. The only drawback is that you can't have any other workout with your legs.

    Make sure u do not start plyometrics till u can squat like 1.5 to 2.0 times or ur weight...

    i work for this particular company that gets great results for a reasonable price. Plyometrics training. Many programs will charge you $60.00 or more. This one is just $19.00,and members have increased there vertical to up to 12 inches in a couple of months.Very good results with this

    How isn't it possible to be 5'11 and 7'3 when reaching up? that just means from the top of his head to the top of his arm pointing straight up is 16 inches. That seems very possible to me.

    You would be right... most 5'11" people have about a 7'9"ish reach. He probably just measured to his advantage- most people do.

    And that isnt 16", it's 14".

    find out your reach. For example I'm 6'1 with an 8ft reach. so 2ft to touch the rim. Maybe 30inches to dunk depends how easy you can palm the ball and such. Umm I'd say I have long arms and I'm taller so I'd guess it might take at least 34-36 inches for you. But why dont you just do the measurements its not complicated.

    If you have good techinque you dont need to palm the ball I know plenty of guys that do it and cant palm the ball or get that high above the rim. They usually gotta throw themselves an alley and they just go up with it and do it. I don't exactly since I can palm the ball with ease but I see them do it.

    you need to measure the farthest point you can reach with one hand... find out how high you can reach when jumping... a - b = vert.

    dunking depends... if you can palm a ball then a bit lower then if you can but generally youre gonna have to be able to touch 10 and a half to dunk

    Arms make a huge difference, I'm 5' 11" and my standing reach in just over 8' 2" last I checked (long time ago though). Having long arms is a HUGE advantage in basketball.

    The poster who said something about Iverson is correct, I forget the exact figure, but his wingspan is that of a person much taller than him. Freddie Jones is another one, abou 6'2" (barefoot, don't believe the 6'4" they list him at in shoes) and a 6'10" wingspan.
