how long does brown rice last after cooked

Since brown rice takes 45 min to cook, i was wondering how long would it last if i kept the rice stored in the refrigerator.

I've seen mold on rice, so you could use that as an indicator, but by the time mold is seen, it's at least 2 days gone bad, which you probably wouldn't have known 2 days ago, after eating it. Was that clear? I wouldn't keep it longer than 5 days in the fridge.

    lmao...

I would say to the OP that cooking no more than 2 days worth of rice is a good base. Dont cook up a weeks worth and then finish the last of it 5 or so days later. It might not be bad, but it most definately will taste like little hardened ticks.

its fine, do u guys have crap fridges or something? if you keep it sealed it can last for over a week just fine, you just might have some condensation leak to the bottom.

"Cooked brown rice can be stored, covered tightly, in a shallow container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days or in the freezer for 6 months according to the USA Rice Federation. After cooked rice has cooled in the refrigerator, transfer it to plastic freezer bags in quantities needed for future meals. Label with the date and quantity."

remember these are just guidelines, its quite fine for longer as well but you should be able to eat it in a week I hope.

to poster above, i cook ALL my food for 5 days on Sunday, what would you say about that? its quite fine I've been doing it this whole year and never had an issue.

the key is once you cook it to put it in the fridge right away, most of the problems occur for letting it sit out at room temp for awhile. so cook, put it straight into containers and into fridge.

As soon as it is done cooking you will get a phone call, it will tell you , you have 7 days. O wait, I think that is from a movie.

I would not go past 2-3 days max.

You can freeze many foods and store it for months, but IMO the taste from day 1 to day 7 is noticeable. I've tried steak from a freezer box after 3 months and I noticed the difference, but that's probably psychological. But this doesn't matter to the hardcore folks here.

yeah of course the taste will change, but that begins soon as its cooked and quickly depreciates on most any food. for amounts of food some of us are eating and just throwing down its plenty okay and not really worried about the taste as its not great anyway if you are eating very clean.

Bacillus cereus might make you think twice about keeping and reheating rice.

You can't tell if it has gone bad with it until you're vomiting or sat on the toilet feeling like you're losing you're guts...

Cool it as quick as you can after cooking to minimise risk.

How long does it last? It depends on how stale you like your rice.
