I've read good things about it colostrum in 3 different magazines. I'm considering buying some, but before I do, I was wondering what you all think about it. Has anyone tried it? Does it help your gains at all or is it just another useless supplement hyped up by muscle magazines?

Colostrum?

I think Colostrum might be promising in the bb industry, but at what amounts, I don't know yet.
I have read a lot about colostrum, and all of its properties, but I am not sure if the 3g that most suggest is enough?? I have heard 20g of pure organic bovine colostrum, but 20g a day is pricey. I think colostrum will evolve over the years, and we will find other products to use along with it.
Right now, I am not sure if most want to pay a wallet load of money for Closotrum until a few published studies have been put out on the uses of it in athletes.
I would wait a while.
I haven't come to a conclusion yet, but I am keeping an eye out on all the info and studies to come.

I was thinking that same thing. Maybe we could get some company to find a lot of pregnant, lactating women, and have them save tons in a bottle.
Hmmm.... Gives me an idea.
I could call it Liquid Lactating Colostrum. I could make millions on an 8oz bottle of the stuff.
LMFAO.....

Effects of bovine colostrum supplementation on serum IGF-I, IgG, hormone, and saliva IgA during training.

Here is one for ya fit. Bovine colostrum elicits a positive response to serum IGF1 in athletes during training is the conclusion I believe. I'll post some more if I find them.
I think the conclusion on colostrum is the same as that one products like HMB and Ribose. They are good stuff, but they never be cheap enough to make an impact on the industry. You simply need to much and it costs too much to make. But its great for health, I've read a ton of studies on colostrum improving immune response. This one indicates that it may be beneficial to gains. All studies used a considerably higher dose than 3 grams however ...

So I guess I'm not going to buy any. At least not yet.

Yeah, all the stuff with it about the immune system is great, and I would like to read more about it, and the effects of it on the IgG, A,E, etc.
Now, as far as bodybuilding goes, I am not sure what the highest amount they have used is??
Now for $$$ reasons, suppose you take in 1tsp which is usually 2.5g of Colostrum.
Now, $22.49 for a 30serv bottle is about in the normal range.
Say 10g of Colostrum is enough to help bodybuilders.
That puts you at 7.5 days, and $22.49
So a months supply would run you roughly $93.00 at 10g per day.
If studies show 30g is what it takes...... SHELL OUT $279.00 for a months supply.
I don't know if Colostrum will go down in price, but my guess is if studies prove more and more, the price will JUMP.

Don't think it will Jump, it won't go down though. Not much room to go down, think of how little colostrum is in milk and how hard it is to separate. Its a tough procedure.

Then I guess only the richest bodybuilders will ever be able to afford to take effective doses.

Colostrum has been proven to be beneficial for athletes who take 60 grams a day of it. No problem since my dad owns a supplement company. (yeah right)

FLEX dislikes colostrum
I wonder why FLEX knocks colostrum so bad in the new January issue?

Why FLEX knocks it is a riddle, could be because Weider doesn't have a large enough stake in the market of course.
The reason I dislike it is because it will simply never be worth what you pay for it. Its a good immunity booster and excellent anti-oxydant, but you'll never get out of it what you pay for it, its simply too expensive to extract. You'll never see me wasting my money on it.

Personally, I got nothing out of it. Probably because I took the recommended dosage. You might want to save your money on this one until they make a cheaper version.

junk
I read the studies about it. Sounded promising, so I bought the best. It was first milking, which made even more exspensive.
Powder to add to my post work out shakes, caps to take during the day.
Zip, zero, not one even barely noticable gain. Took it for 2 months.
Alot of stuff looks good on paper as this did, but alas more money I donated to supplements.
Since I have read even more studies on it. I have learned something since then. If you know a farmer, and trust that the cow has not been feed all kinds of chemicals, you can buy bovine colostrum right from him. A whole lot cheaper to get an effective dose also.
I feel most of the benefits are lost during proccessing of the colostrum on the market these days.
I raise beef with a friend of mine so I am considering it. I am getting a hard time about whether when I heat treat it if the benefits are lost again....

Save your money! You'd get better results from a couple quarts of raw milk every day. Digestion would be better all around too, even for those who are lactose intollerant.
Again, save your money. No excuses, either put up or shut up!

Great stuff
I was a competitive body builder in 2001 drug free and discovered colostrum through a natural body building site. I used it aggressivley for 3 months and gained 20 pounds of lean muscle and had amazing gains in strength and recoupe from my hard work outs. The stuff really works and is amazing for general health. I never had a cold or got sick at all over that time. I took several years off of body building but kept using the colostrum to keep up my health. I'm back working out again and have been using the colostrum for the last month while training 4 times a week and have put on 8 pounds LEAN muscle and have made amazing gains again, i swear by the stuff and have had several people take my advise and they are having the same results ot better... God bless you all. You will be thankful for trying this healty alternative to Steroids out you will not be sorry.. I use 1st milking bovine colostrum from the UFA or vetrinary clinic it's the purest form and has the highest immunoglobulins count. Good luck all

colostrum
I used it for three months prior to getting ready for canadian bodybuilding championships in 2001. I was looking for a natural alternative to steroids. It is amazing stuff. Make sure you use the vet stuff you can buy it through the farm supply stores. I supplemented it with my protein shakes after work outs and before bed and on off days as a mid day snack. i'm currently taking 4 table spoons twice a day.. you may use more... You will find that it helps you recoupe from work outs amazingly quick and very quick muscle gains and strength gains as well. My one buddy put on 13 pounds lean muscle in 3 weeks it freaked him out as he was a previous steriod user and could not believe that anything else would work so well. I started into the weights again about a month ago and started using the colostrum and ceatine as well as protein shakes 8 pounds of muscle gain in that time and very noticeable changes .. Good luck let me know how it works fo you. no side effects from colostrum unless you are lactose intolrent then you may have some issues..

Liquid Bovine Colostrum is Awesome!
100% sterile, liquid bovine colostrum, processed without heat to retain the full complement of protein, growth hormones and antibodies, contains no drugs or banned substances.
When colostrum is dried to make the powder or capsule form that most folks use, it is denatured - that is, the non-steroidal anabolic qualities are pasteurized out.
There is now a liquid version that is sterile, but not pasteurized. And thanks to its unique processing, it's safe and preservative-free.
The company has sourced 100% natural bovine colostrum from USDA Grade A dairies - and with its unique process, can deliver a complete, preservative-free alternative to build muscle mass and increase endurance - even when folks lift at the highest stress levels.
Right now, they are only selling in the animal market - but a lot of people are using the product and getting some very cool results.
Check it out. It's called Re-Borne, and you can read more about it at re-borne-equine.com.
