I use a smith machine to do military press because my gym doesnt have a standard barbell. Is it really that bad to use a smith machine? I also use it to do squats because the gym doesnt have a squat rack.

Dude, I'd find another gym. Why join a gym that doesn't have the equipment you need? It's not bad to use the smith machine, but the free weights are much better at building muscle and form. There was thread on this subject just the other day. Do the search and you'll find it. Does your gym have dumbbells? You can also do dumbbell presses. I'd prefer them over the smith machine too.
