I am planning on attending a contest on Nov. 17th. I am 17 yrs old and probably around 10-12% bodyfat at the momment (up from 9% since my pics I put on bodyspace). But i've put on a good 10-15lbs since those pics.
Anyway, if I attend, this will be my first show and I am really a total newb when it comes to nailing proper condition for a show. Although I have been on a few cuts so I know how to diet properly.
So my questions are:
How low should my bodyfat be right before contest if I want to look good but not be super ripped because I don't want to loose muscle unneccesarily?
How long before contest should I start cutting in order to nail condition?
I am thinking I should start cutting about a month before contest but I really have no idea. I understand that how long I cut is dependent on how strict I am in my diet but an estimate would be great. Any answers, tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on different factors, like BF percentage, diet, how fast you wanna lose weight and im sure a lot more, Derek and layne could help you out with more info.
I personally would cut 12-16 weeks out, depends on experience. I know derek and layne have their diets set up perfectly to their needs cause they know their bodys so they know exactly when to start dieting.New 5/3/1 Strength Journal:

i always give myself 12 weeks and i never let my bodyfat exceed 10%. losing 1% bodyfat every 2 weeks is realistic and i like to give myself some extra time in case i screw up anywhere on the way. since its your first show, i would recommend a little extra time cause you will likely need to make a lot of adjustments. the more time you give yourself the better. this makes it easier to hold on to more lean mass
