Thumbs up Drink lots of water to burn fat.

    Water Burns F-A-T - -

Next time you "forget" to drink water, remember
this: water is the most powerful "fatburner" on the
    planet.

Your kidneys require water (pure water) in large
amounts to properly filter toxins. When water is not
supplied, the liver is tapped to help out with the
    life-saving job of filtration.

Here's the rub -- the liver is the 'fat-burning organ'.
The liver's job is to burn and process fat. Without
the liver working to do this, you simply shut down
    your fat-burning furnace.

Ever wonder why alcoholics have big bellies? It's
not the kcals -- you can see homeless people who
do not eat but a few hundred kcals in a given day,
yet who drink a lot of alcohol, and end up with
    big bellies.

This is due to the fact that alcohol shuts down
liver function, hence fat-burning. This is also why
I advocate little if any alcohol while on a fat-burning
    regimen.

Ellington Darden also points out in his stuff that it takes some significant amount of calories to warm up ice water. If you drink a gallon of ice water a day, in addition to the other benefits you burn another 123 calories or something.

Not a lot, but every little bit helps.

I should start drinking water. I drink maybe a glass of pure water a day. Most of my liquid comes in the form of Diet Coke.

Most people are somewhat dehydrated. When you pee, if it isn't clear or at the most pale yellow, then you are dehydrated.

I have been trying to drink a gallon a day of cold water per Darden's advice, and it's tough... you spend a lot of time at the urinal.

If I try to consume more water than I "feel" I need, I need to expel every 20 minutes. When we have hour long meetings at work, I may have to excuse myself once or sometimes twice. I will make an effort though.

This is not entirely accurate. There are other factors that can lead to unclear urine. But yeah, it's a good rule of thumb.

His advice is good. You may also have a prostate issue that can cause excessive urination. Taking creatine mono especially, in the loading phase can also cause excessive urination.

My wife has always been a big water drinker. She got me into it some years ago. At home, I keep two 1 liter bottles in the fridge. I drink a minimum of 4 liters of water at home per day. Most days it is more like 6 liters.

As for frequent trips to the bathroom: As dbx said "You may also have a prostate issue that can cause excessive urination. Taking creatine mono especially, in the loading phase can also cause excessive urination." For me, I find if I don't space my water evenly throughout the day, or drink too many too fast, I will go more often.

Interesting Hapkido thanks for sharing that little bit of information. I always thought you get a big belly from drinking because it lowers your testosterone levels.

lower tes = less lean mass = lower metabolism = store more fat

I know in my twenties I could drink like a fish and not gain a pound. Now a 6 pack of beer has a double meaning as that is exactly where it will go.

Water pees out the fat. Does not "burn" the fat. Just an important part to the whole deal.

However, as always, I will stand corrected if wrong.

I once read that your body cannot absorb water until it has reached body temperature, so the fastest way to rehydrate is to drink tepid water, not cold; is there any truth to that?

Or is it just a myth?

I don't know, but I was told that drinking cold water burns more calories because the body expends energy to bring its temp up to equal the body temperature.

    Truth or myth?

I'd heard that before - but my recent research shows that cold water actually absorbs more quickly

And the last I heard....... room temp water did absorb more quickly. And the cold water burning cals theory is true, but to a a negligible measuring point. You now have all these people drinking ice cold water, thinking they're burning the heck out of cals..........but it's soooo minimal I'd suggest just drinking it at the temp you personally desire.

Again, these are those "micro secrets" that in theory have been proven in a lab test, but in real life.......won't make a damn bit of difference to you.

I drink water all day (probably average a gallon and a quarter - but as much as three gallons on long cardio days). Sometimes it's cold, most often it's "cool" but not icy - but when I'm, doing a long walk, it's tepid. I have zero preference in any direction, just whatever is convenient.

At any rate - I definitely agree water's a good thing!

Thanks "myth buster," dbx. I never thought I was performing cardio while drinking water, but I do like drinking cold water.

I do like the caffine effect.

Yeah alcohol will add ab mass (in a bad way). I love my beer though...if I keep it to weekends only it doesn't really matter. I am abusing it a bit now since I am bulking...probably adding a full inch or two to me. When I cut I get serious though...

Diet Coke (probably all soda in general) bloats my belly too...1 week or two with no soda and it looks like I lost 10-20 pounds in my past.

I only have one a day now save once a month I may have 2 or 3. It just puffs me up.

Thanks all for the reminder to drink more water.
I carry a water bottle around my classroom all day, but I tend to find it still half full at the end of the day. And the pee is dark yellow. Time to develop a new, healthy habit (and it's not a bad model for my students either).

    Smile

I drink at least a gallon of water or more a day. I think my twenty trips to the washroom burn a few calories.

I got in the habit of sipping water constantly when I was working in a restaurant. Being on a grill for hours makes you sweat a LOT, and if you aren't drinking water, you get worn out fast.

Since I was running the kitchen, I worked insane hours, and couldn't afford to let dehydration wear me out.

Kinda know the feeling, I work on a flotaion circuit ( all liquid ) in a steel building so when it gets hot outside the humidity makes me feel like I am being steamed. Kind of makes me feel sorry for those steamed veggies
