Sleep problems?
Anyone have any suggestions for better sleep. I have Ambein CR prescribed and that barely helps. I've used just about every OTC sleep aid too, melatonin, valerian root, all that ****. My diet is fine and I don't take in too mcuh caffeine. I don't exercise late at night either. I can't really think of a solution. I just can't seem to clear my mind at nights...any ideas?

your body will only let you fall asleep if you go into to bed with the mind set
"god, i am so sleepy, i need to catch up on some sleep"
but if you shut off the lights while thinking about how to perfect your diet, you wont fall asleep because your thinking.

Tilo Tea. If you can get your hands on it. The stuff is amazing it calms your nerves and gives you such a good nights sleep.
Sleeptime tea: If you can find this have about 3 bags before you go to bed. Similar to tilo but not as strong.
Are there thign sin your life that are bothering you? I know with college apps and school stress my sleep can be quite restless.

Well I know my diet is fine, I usually think about what I'm going to do the next day. I guess I maybe I don't focus on sleep enough?

I realized that I can't sleep when I have something stressful in my mind. This can range anywhere from an important exam, a girlfriend issue, or a car accident. It's harddd to sleep when you've encountered a stressful situation as above.. the best way is probably through meditation but this can only come through lots of practice. Breathe in and out and try not to think of anything! You need to learn how to inhibit all those stressful thoughts and lock it up somewhere until the next day.

Usually it takes me 1+ hours to get to sleep. It's definitely not good.. I guess just try and get your mind off of absolutely everything..

I'm alright at sleep problems. What you should do firstly is not to worry because having a few nights of sleep compounds the problem greatly
Firstly you said that you can't fall asleep as ngiht right, but are you forcing yourself to go to bed? The best way to sleep is go to bed when you feel tired and wake up naturally. So tonight (or today..whatever it is over there) just say f*ck it and watch TV/play games/read/watch a movie untill you feel sleepy then get to bed. Let your body tell you when to sleep, not you tell it when to sleep.

DONT THINK OF AN ORANGE ELEPHANT!!!
you see, if your thinking not to think about something, then its going to have an adverse effect.
and thinking about trying to get to sleep too much, is going to be even worse.
I suggest you do cardio throughout the day, to make yourself tired out at night, also, if you don't already have one - then get a sleeping pattern.
if your waking up at different time, and going to bed different at different times, your body will find it harder to adjust.
Good look with the insomnia

I find it help to write down what you going to do tomorrow on a piece of paper then you wont have to go to sleep thinking about what to do the next day.
Basically if you worry about something that need to do or whatever it is just write it on a piece of paper so it will get off your mind!

Definatly try tire yourself, and only then should you go to bed. I can usually get to sleep in 30 min when tired, but it takes hours when not.

Very true.
Things that might help are
1 read a book, watch some tv. video games might be too intense. something thatll bore you(like a book) after a 1/2 hour or so ill just fall asleep.
2 stay in a heated area until you go to sleep. cuz......it makes you tired
3 probably my favorite dont get all tucked in and what not but when you feel tired during the evening lay down and just pretend like your just laying there for a minute to get some energy back.....but trust me youll get real tired that way.....then just run in bed and sleep
4 i always get tired in a hot car coming home..................

Guys this isn't just an up and coming problem. I've never been a good sleeper, not even when I was a baby. Thats why I wanted the Rx sleep meds and they don't even help that much. I do plenty of cardio in the mornings and walk around campus all day plus lifting. I do go to bed when I'm tired but it's just hard to fall asleep. I haven't read a good book in a while so maybe I'll try that before sleep.

So your tired yet can't go to sleep? Try measure your heart rate when you get into bed, it should be very slow. Do you hop into bed after watching tv/playing games?

Its usually after I study, read, do homework (not reading for fun, usually textbooks.) I have a resting heart rate of 62 bpm. I'm not lookin for any particular answer just looking for things you guys do to help yourselves fall asleep if it has ever been a problem. I've used melatonin, GABA, all OTC sleep supplements and aids.

Well yea I used to have the exact same problem you did actually. Feel tired...get into bed...not be able to sleep. What works good for me now is just to lie in bed, take some slow deep breaths and then just go through my workout that day or what I did in my mind which usually relaxes me and I just fall into sleep after a few minutes.

I find keeping my activity level high every day puts me right to sleep at night. even if your just gonna go for a jog or something, it tends to settle me down for sleep.

Usually chicken or beef...whatever I didn't eat from when I cooked during the day. Whey keeps you up? Never heard of that but I don't drink it before bed anyway.
