    i am wondering this also.
i was deciding whether to buy whey protein or creatine at the store today, and i chose the whey because i heard that creatine just makes your muscles bigger and heavier

All creatine supplementation does is gives your muscle cells a readily supply of phosphocreatine that can be used to generate extra energy needed when exerting yourself. Just google "exercise physiology" and you can find lots of stuff about ATP production, the energy that fuels all cells. Without ATP, your cells die and creatine goes to the areas around your cells to be converted into phosphocreatine later when there is a need to convert high levels of ADP into ATP. It's simple Glycolocis, Kreb's cycle, cellular respiration stuff. So just google about that. It's so complex to just sit here and post about it cuz there's a lot of factors to explain it. To answer your question, I suppose with extra phosphocreatine around your muscle cells then you probably would have a more fuller look. See I'm hardly ever on this board anymore cuz I'm in a class in college that is pretty much just blowing a lot of this supplemenation crap outa the water. If you take an introductory zoology class or biology class there's so much knowledge that can be applied to this sport because this sport is just manipulating your body's chemistry to get it to produce more muscle fiber. Creatine itself does not pack on mass to your muscles. It simply gives your cells extra material to convert into energy. I'm a health and exercise science sophomore right now so I'm still not the most 100% knowledgeable guy on this, but that's just what I've learned so far about creatine and how it's used in cells. Hope that helped.

    yeah that helped!
so in a nut shell, it just gives you more energy, not necessarily helping build (notice i said build, not make your muscles look fuller) muscle. but obviously you can work out MORE so.. then you build more muscle that way?

Creatine will increase size, and it is said it may increase strength by 10%, just research up on google.

Creatine will help you get bigger pumps out from your workouts that will lead to heavier lifting, which in turn helps muscle growth since you are working your muscles harder. Creatine prettymuch provides energy to your muscle in a time of need.

As long as you keep your muscles saturated with creatine.

Yes it does give you more energy... I guess indirectly it can increase size, but it doesn't directly increase size. The only that can increase actual muscle tissue is protein. You can I guess dialate your cells so that they appear bigger, but the only thing that is going to give you actual tissue growth is protein; both the protein that your body synthesises naturally and the essential amino acids that you have to ingest from outside sources ie whey and meats. This is just personal opinion, but I would think that the reason that creatine does make your muscles look bigger is because your body is mostly water, and extacellular fluid that is the fluid that surrounds your cells. With extra creatine there, there would have to be more extracellular fluid around your cells to hold it there as phosphocreatine giving you a more fuller looking muscle. I don't know if that's why it makes you look bigger or not, that's just a guess. Personally I just try to create conditions in my body so that it will synthesize more muscle protein and actually pack on real mass. Creatine helps in that it gives you more energy, but it doesn't just get converted into muscle. That's why I get upset with the supplement industry because they make it seem like their product gives you lean mass. That is totally not true, the only thing that makes muscle tissue is protein.

Creatine can give you strength gains. Strength leads to gains in mass provided there is progressive overload.

On another note some studies show that increased osmotic pressure from creatine supplementation can lead to protein synthesis, but this is just speculation.
