    yeah

That first video is awesome--no knee wraps and REALLY deep. Hadn't seen it--how about the 825? Any vids of that? Whenever I watch that 1000 bottom squat I can't stop laughing. The audio is hilarious towards the end.

Here's another CRAZY one. This guy has knee wraps, but no suit. It's off Irongame.

Fat doesnt protect your joints AT ALL,it does help keeping the heat in and absorbing mechanical shocks.

Back in my day a walkout is all there was. I think the monolift is for the birds.

Walking with the weight is part of the lift, imho.

A-rod, I've been wanting to ask you a question.
How much does strength come into play in martial arts, boxing, UFC fighting etc.???????
I know technique is a big part of it and so is speed but how far can weightlifting take you??????

I know technique is a big part of it and so is speed but how far can weightlifting take you??????

If you are talking about competition strength plays a HUGE part in it, simply because you can take people out in an instant, even if you arent better tecniquewise you can win it.

I`ve had a coupla MMA bouts in the beach and it never took longer than a minute for me to take them out.

So theoretically if a 180 lbs guy, with very little bodyfat, could bench press 500 lbs and squat 600 lbs, he could probably beat most opponents with very little technique. Is that what you're saying????

I wouldnt go that far, "very lil tecnique" doesnt cut it, you need to have reasonable tecnique and great power then you can win it the fast way.

For instance, in boxing if you dont know how to protect your chin you`ll get KOed in the first round even if the guy is weaker than you.

    Enough tecnique and big power

    Interesting!!

Reason I'm asking is Royce Gracie survived a long time on technique, he was brilliant with his Jui Juitsu moves.
But there came a saturation point where his opponents were simply becoming too strong to where it didnt matter how much technique Gracie had.

I've never understood this (and yes I walk out all my squats)

If your against monolifts are you also against lift offs in the bench?

No. On bench you are at a different angle when you liftoff than when you press the weight up. It's a different line of movement. If it were the same line then you'd hit the racks.

On bench you can't "walk it out." Once you lift it off you can't really scoot down the bench. On squats however, you can press it straight up, then walk it out away from the racks.

I don't like monolifts because it just makes powerlifting so far removed from anything I can relate to. With monolifts the equipment just gets tighter and tighter. I just can't really relate to a monolift squat where the guy can barely get 1200 lbs to paralell. I'm not saying it's not extremely strong, but when I see someone squatting raw it's just way cooler to me.

I'm not saying equipment is evil or anything, I just enjoy watching and competing in raw powerlifting.
