    Exclamation MARAL Root (Rhaponticum Carthamoides)

    What do you guys think of this????

    Leuzea carthamoides (also called Rhaponticum carthamoides) is a rare endemic plant belonging to the Composite family. It is a big herbal perennial, reaching 130 cm in height. Leuzea grows on the mountain slopes in a limited area of southern Siberia (*****, Sayani). It does not exist as a wild growing plant in other region of the world. Because of the limited distribution of Leusea in nature and because the plant grows slowly, the collection of wild-growing Leuzea in Russia is under government control and is restricted.
    The history of Leuzea as a medicinal plant began ages ago when local hunters watched the behavior of a variety of deer known as Marals. At the time of mating, when males fight each other and need to restore their strength, stags dig out and eat Leuzea root. Local healers discovered that consumption of dried Leuzea root by man also helped him recover from fatigue and increase his sexual potency. The plant was thereafter named Maral root, now the official common name of Leuzea.

    For body builders and other athletes, a stronger and more powerful body is the holy grail. To this end, enter Rhaponticum carthamoides, a little-known plant which just may possess the power to turn the sports world on its ear. In Russia and Eastern European countries, rhaponticum is regularly used in conjunction with Siberian ginseng and Rhodiola, to improve all parameters of sports performance. What makes rhaponticum so special is that it appears to be a true anabolic agent, enabling the body to produce more lean muscle mass. This is good news for athletes who might otherwise be lured by steroids.

    Also known as Maral Root, Rhaponticum carthamoides is an herbaceous perennial growing between 4,500 -6,000 feet above sea level. The plant can be found growing wild in Southern Siberia, Kazakhstan, the ***** region, and Western Sayani. Rhaponticum is also cultivated throughout Russia and Eastern Europe. Rhaponticum derives its traditional name, Maral Root from the Maral Deer who feed on it. As a traditional remedy, Rhaponticum has been used to allay fatigue, treat impotence, speed recovery from illness, and improve mood in cases of mild depression. Modern research conducted in Russia and Eastern Europe indicates that Maral Root may indeed exert a beneficial effect cases of impotence, improve memory and learning, increase working capacity of tired skeletal muscles, and possess anabolic and adaptogenic properties.

    Rhaponticum carthamoides contains a number of antioxidant flavonoids and natural sterols, including a substance called 20-Hydroxyecdysone, which has been shown to increase protein production at the cellular level, and in turn enhance the production of muscle tissue. Research conducted in Russia shows that extracts of Rhaponticum can significantly increase muscle mass, while decreasing body fat in athletes who use it while exercising. Research also shows that Rhaponticum extract can help to increase work capacity and endurance, while reducing mental and physical fatigue.

    Additional scientific studies performed on Rhaponticum have shown this herb improves overall physical performance, and shortens recovery time after an intense workout. Observations of the influence of Rhaponticum on the cardiovascular system have shown that its ability to increase physical work capacity is partially due to its ability to improve food supply to the muscles and brain. One study of 60 military cadets using rhaponticum extract documented an improvement in appetite, sleep, and general physical and mental state.

    In athletes who use the extracts regularly, rhaponticum demonstrates a marked anabolic effect, and aids the body in the synthesis of protein. The extract, also appears to protect the body from environmental stress. Rhaponticum is prescribed to athletes by Russian sports physicians in order to replenish depleted physical and psychical reserves that become exhausted as a result of hard training. After taking Rhaponticum carthamoides extract, an increase in muscle mass and a decrease in fat tissue has been documented by researchers.

    Scientific studies of Leuzea's influence on the organism began in Russia in the 1940's, during World War II, when the country had needed medication to help restore the strength of warriors ….
    An ethanol extract of dried Leuzea root contain tannins, phytoecdysones, flavonoids, glycosides, lignins, alkaloids, vitamins, organic acids and some yet-to-be-identified compounds.

    Numerous experiments on animals and humans in clinical trials have made it possible to establish that Leuzea extract:
    • Increases the rate at which ATP (source of energy in cells) is restored;
    • Contributes to an increase of muscle mass;
    • Reinforces contractions of the heart muscles;
    • Improves blood circulation in muscles and brain;
    • Increases resistance to oxygen starvation;
    • Elevates the ability and mobility of spermatozoids in vitro;
    • Accelerates sexual maturity and the first pregnancy of female animals;
    • Prevents development of experimental hyper and hypoglycemia, leukocytosis, leucopoenia, erythrocytosis and erythropenit;
    • Improves transmition of impulse interneuronal synapse depressed by the drug sodium barbital;
    • Neutralizes the suppressive effect on the brain by sodium barbital;
    • Restores the capacity to focus, concentrate and perform mental work in men while mentally fatigued;
    • Increases the resistance to the common cold;

    In addition, clinical trial have shown that Leuzea extract has the ability to prevent and eliminate stress-induced pathological conditions, especially during their initial stages. In particular, it improves the focus and attention in persons whose duties require great concentration (such as traffic controllers, pilots and cosmonauts). Leuzea extract prevents stress-induced sleep disorders and does not evoke an unpleasant sensations such as psychosis, retardation, slugish distress, apathy and headaches, which were observed following the intake of sleeping pills. The extract has a positive influence on the initial stages asthenia and sexual malfunction. It also slightly decreases the sugar content in the blood during the initial stage of diabetes mellitus.

    Among various active constituents of Leuzea extract the most interesting is ecdysterone - a polyhydrodated sterol belonging to ecdysone group. The ecdysterone content in dried Leuzea root can reach as high as 0.7%. Ecdysterone also exists in some insects and crustaceans…. but not in vertebrate animals or in humans. In insects and crustaceans ecdysterone is synthesized in trase p?… as hormone to regulate protein synthesis.

    Because ecdysterones are not known to exist in humans scientists study did not pay attention to man as subject for research of ecdysterone activity. Later scientists established that ecdysterone is physiologically active.....
    It has now been demonstrated that ecdysteron:
    • Possesses anabolic activity - the ability to increase muscle mass - while not destroying androgen function (in contrast to the well-known anabolic steroids);
    • Stimulates RNA synthesis in liver cells (thereby increasing protein synthesis);
    • Activates brain synthesis of glutamate decarboxylase (an enzyme which is responsible for synthesis of gamma-aminobutyric acid, an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain);
    • Activates the brain synthesis of acetylcholine esterase (an enzyme which participates in regulation of nerve impulse transmssion in cholinergic neurons);
    • Activates synthesis of decarboxylase (an ezyme participating in formation of adrenaline);
    • Activates synthesis catalase (an enzyme that destroys H2O2, which can damage DNA and cellular membranes);
    • Activates synthesis of glucose dehydrogenase, acid phosphatase and malate dehydrogenase (enzymes which take part in cell energy generation);
    • Protects nuclear chromatin in chromosome component) in liver cells against free radical oxidation induced by tetrachloromethane in experimental animals, thus significantly increasing their survival;
    • Provides protective action experimental arteriosclerosis in rabbits;
    • Restores phospholipids og liver mitochondria pathologically changed by insulin insufficiency under experimental alloxan diabetes mellitus in animals;
    • Eliminates experimental arrhythmia and improves heart contractility during coronary artery occlusion in animals;
    • Has an immunomodulating effect on lymphocyte production by the spleen;

    The mechanism behind the actions of ecdysterone is probably similar to that of human steroid hormones. This means that hormone receptors on human cells interact with the ecdysterone. Human endogenous hormones have, however, an advantage over ecdysterone because of their higher affinity to the hormone receptors. When human steroid hormones are produced in sufficient quantities in the body, ecdysterone cannot compete with endogenous hormones for the receptors and therefore does not have an effect. But when there is a deficiency in the body of its own hormones, ecdysterone can bind to unoccupied steroid hormone receptors, replacing the missing endogenous hormone.

    I have read other sites that advance the theory that taking the whole root boiled in a tea is much more effective than the extracts sold in many products. Try it out for yourself, the guy selling this at Root of the Matter is a great guy with good products.

    e-bol has a good dose of ecdysterone; people got good results with just 15mg ecdysterone in ecdysten, and e-bol has 80mg per dose. syntra EC, anagen, ecdysterone 300 all use cyanatis vaga (not rhaponcticum carthamoides), and the feedback on those products has not been as good as RC products.

    ecdysteron facts

    as i know the ecdysteron is an adaptogen extracted from various plants and insects ...
    1. most known plants are Rhaponticum Carthamoides ( known also as Maral ) and ajuga turkestanika ( turkesteron mostly )
    2. we take rhaponticum as source for ecdy : the best suplliers are in ***** region / Russia .
    3. the Rhaponticum Carthamoides is know from hundreds of year by locals and used to strengthen the health ( imagine that the living conditions are quite hard ) ... so they makes tea from leafe or they put the racine in votka ...
    4. the biological active composition is : ecdysteron 0,44 to 1% plus 18 vitamins and 47 microellements , 27-30% proteins and 14-16% aminoacids ; this values are for the plants harvested at 2500 m altitude since the external factors and the stress for the plants ( wind , low temperature , etc) , develop the increase of activ biological substances in plant .
    5. the Rhaponticum Carthamoides powder ( natural dried leafs harvested at right moment when the maximum biological activ subst are present in plant ) contain around 60 genes activator necessary for reglementation of human body organism biological processes .

    6. the root contain 10-20 time less biological substances then leafs .....
    and the leafs powder can be dilluted with water since the root must to be processed in special way to obtian the biological activ susbstance ..
    * the entire composition of the leafs offer the synergical effect on the body by multicomposition of substances and activators ... personally i think the nature is best doctor and the equilibrium in the composition is the best taken as it is .
    the dose from dried leafes for sportivmen is starting with 50-100 mg taken 2-3 times dailly .... and anabolic effect is maximum taken with B complex vitamins ( especially b3 , b6 )
    - the ecdysteron powder extract found in various products taken in excess
    has an inhibitory effect . ... so again the equilibrium must be the line followed by thos who want to have good results .

    - a normal cure take 4-8 weeks with minimum 2 weeks stop ... it can be taken graduatelly ....with a peak . protein msut be taken at least in proportion of 1,5grams per body kg . - also can be taken glutamine/ creatin and vitamine C water dissolved - to maintain the alkalin ph of the body .

    * my ideea is to make a 4 months cure with - rhapontikum powder from siberia ( 4 weeks) + tongcat ali 4 weeks ( indonesia ) + rhapontikum powder from siberia ( 4 weeks) and the final 4 weeks tonkcat ali + raponticum + SERRATULA CORONATA ( another siberian plant rich in Phytoecdysteroids )

    - these are only some of aspects for ecdysteron and the effect ... i just translated very few things about ecdysteron and the source is an reputable science doctor and researcher from Siberian mountains who has studied the plant....I am from east europe and not russian so it was difficult to translate more .

    so i hope it was helpfull for you .... from my side i will never buy ecdysteron powder or pills because of non biological value or very low absorbtion and transformation ( as we know from chemistry the reaction from various substances is realised only if some catalysators are present in very very low quantities and same rules apllies here ) ..... most known ecdysteron pills - product is from Uzbekistan and cost around of 20 usd for 100 pills of 5 mg and i do not buy it ...
    - other american , chinese , etc ecdysteron products has very low biological reaction because of extraction method , the plant used for , etc ....

    thanks for your time ,

    Chris .

    Maral Root / Powder

    Hi All,

    After a lot of reading and a lot of searching I ordered a 1lb bag of Maral Root from the "rootofthematter".

    Have I used it - hell yeah. Does it work?

    From a muscular endurance angle - yes, from the giving you more energy i.e. walking is too slow, running is better - yes that's true. Concentration is better, the ability to do things faster and accurately - that's true.

    The best way to make this is as a tea. Boil 2 litres of water in a pan and turn down to the lowest setting, then put the equivalent of a tablespoon into the water and let it very slowly simmer for 2 hours. Let it cool after 2 hours and pour off into a container that can be stored in a fridge and drink 1/2 litre a day.

    I have even ordered the maral root powder from the same guy - and this stuff is hard to get hold of - as powdering maral root is expensive. This I have used as an additive.

    tried maral root

    I tried it last spring (2012), and have been taking it ever since. It is by far the best supplement I have ever taken. When I started (2012) I had been exercising regularly for years. I weighed roughly 140 and benched roughly 350 at the time (no B.S., I am tired of people telling me it is impossible.). After taking this herbal extract (did it my self, soaked dried ground root in vodka for roughly 3 weeks, then squirt about 15 drops under the toungue 3 times a day, swallow after burning ends) for 2-3 weeks, I gained 15 pounds, bench press jumped to 450, doubled the weight I used on everything else, decrease in body fat (6 pack turned to 8).

    It is now the end of summer of 2013. I have "fallen off the wagon" of lifting since last spring, but started back up a week ago. I am so sore I feel crippled, but thanks to maral root and eating plenty of protein, my chest has increased size by roughly 40% in this week. Can't wait to find out how much my strength increased, as my first workout in a year was pitiful compared to last year (use to warm up with 2 sets of 10 at 315 before bumping up weight. last week warmed up at 150 and only made it to 205)

    Conclusion: feels like legal, healthy, cheap, and effective steroids.
    Noticeable (and documented) side effects include:
    -requiring slightly less sleep
    -increased libido and "strength of the member"
    -increased energy and strength
    -massive increase in muscle mass
    -improved focus
    -improved mood, takes longer to annoy/anger
    -increased resistance to illness
    -decrease in ADD symptoms
    -crippling soreness during recovery from workouts (probably due to being out of shape rather than effects from the herb)
    -increased motivation
    -improvement of acne

    Those sound like terrible side effects. I will stay away from this stuff.

    There is a growing body of research validating the studies performed by V.N. Syrov (Russia) decades ago. These include muscle growth, fat loss, wound healing etc.. For example..

    http://www.ergo-log.com/ecdysteronemetabolism.html
    http://www.ergo-log.com/ecdysteroidsyoungerskin.html
    http://www.ergo-log.com/ecdysteroids.html
    http://www.ergo-log.com/ecdysteronejoints.html

    Some of the most interesting were conducted at The University of Szeged in Hungary. These are pricey research papers, but worth studying if Ecdy is in your cross-hairs. The preferred source genus is Rhaponticum Carthamoides (an extract), NOT Cyanotis Vaga etc.. The best material in the world comes from the Institute of Chemistry and Plant Sciences in Uzbekistan.

    I've used and studied various ecdysterones and their sapogenin analogs for over 2 decades (there are 467 known Ecdsteroids to date)*. It has profound health promoting benefits especially as it relates to lowering cholesterol, liver function etc.. It can and does help with muscle growth and especially recovery time IMO, provided you respect it's mechanism of action. It's not an AAS, as many companies promote. Rather, it's an adaptogen - which requires some tweaks to your training/diet to get 100% out of it.

    Thermolife and a few select other companies spring for the highest quality materials. It's incredibly effective when paired with other supplements/nutraceuticals, but that's outside the context of this discussion.

    Hope that helps..
