Thumbs up Wheat Germ = Miracle Food

i was eating breakfast at my college's cafeteria one day when this kid next to me brings this bowl of what looked like chicken ****....this goopy stuff, some kind of grain. he claimed it was wheat germ and that it was one of the best foods you could eat, in terms of protein, fats, good carbs, minerals, etc.

so i called bull**** since i figured it was just a processed grain...
but i did some research and discovered that wheat germ is probably the best grain out there.

1 serving of toasted wheat germ (1 cup)
    =
    430 cals
33 g protein (full spectrum of amino acids)
    12 g fat (10 g mono, 2 g sat)
    56 g carbs (17 g FIBER wow, only 9 g sugars)

and as for vitamins it has more than any other grain.

    1 serving also contains:
    6.8 mg Vit. C (11% DV)
    18.1 mg Vit. E (90% DV)
    1.9 mg Thiamin (125% DV)
    0.9 mg Riboflavin (55% DV)
    6.3 mg Niacin (33% DV)
    1.1 mg Vitamin B (55% DV)
    400 mcg Folate (100% DV)
1.6 mg Pantothenic Acid (16% DV)

....as well as minerals, especially vital in muscle development
    10.5 mg Iron (60%)
    363 mg Magnesium (90%)
    1295 mg Phosphorous (129 % DV)
    1070 mg Potassium (31% DV)
    4.5 mg sodium...nothing
    18.8 mg Zinc (126 % DV)
    0.7 mg Copper (35% DV)
    22.6 mg manganate (1128% DV...holy ****)
    73.5 mg Selenium (105% DV)

as you can see, it more than exceeds several mineral and vitamin requirements, plus it provides valuable mineras; e.g. potassium, helps stop water retention.

not bad...healthy mono-sat. fats, quite a bit of full spectrum amino acids, a LOT of fiber (lol i probably would not eat over a full serving in one sitting...+20g fiber at once...), and multiple vitamin and mineral amounts that far exceed the DV requirements. which, as athletes/bodybuilders, we need more of anyways.

oh yes, not to mention a GI value of 11...about the same as oats, which have a GI of 9.

    to conclude,

wheat germ is my new miracle food.
I forgot the most important moment in the history of ever: When Glenn Beck and Ayn Rand teamed up to defeat socialism and fascism and restored the world to the way it was supposed to be before Obama forged the One Ring.

Are you being serious about the wheat being good for you trick? :In terms of avoiding HFC and other processed oils I am in favor of whole grains that lack these things as opposed to processed alternatives, but stuffing yourself with too many isn't good for you. I agree with the cholesterol anti comment tho, goes for eggs and why you should eat yolks, nothing shows that eating the cholesterol will raise your own. When you have fried eggs, hashbrowns, bacon and lots of greasy food I believe that raises your cholesterol. I didn't know wheat germ had sugar in it? Where does it come from? Rolled Oats have no sugar I don't see why wheat germ would? Is there a more unprocessed for of it without sugar? Thanks all, good luck to you

This is what I ate today and will eat tonight.

Breakfast: I wasn't hungry, so I skipped. If I’m hungry I’ll scramble up some eggs and have some blueberries.

Lunch: Ate a little earlier then usual because I got hungry. ½ rotisserie chicken (with skin of course) Broccoli, not sure of amount, but a lot. 2 kiwi fruits.

Dinner: I plan on having a 1 pound steak, close to a pound of asparagus, 6 ounces of blueberries or blackberries.

That’s pretty much it. I’ll mix up the fruit at lunch and sometimes have lamb instead of steak for dinner.

My progress, well, I was very active high school and early twenties, playing 2-man beach volleyball. I could eat anything I wanted. About 26 I got a new job that required a lot of hours and really stopped working out. I gain a lot of weight. At 250 lbs I did the Atkins diet and lost 40lbs without exercising. So I was sold on the low carb diet. Since then I’ve modified it a bit to include more fruits and stopped taking the Atkins low-carb crap, like bread.

Started working out again and right now I’m about 220 and I would guess about 12-14% body fat. Blood work and blood pressure are fine, despite my high saturated fat intake.

The unreal is more powerful than the real, because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. because its only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. stone crumbles. wood rots. people, well, they die. but things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on

"Now, please consider the humble grain. Once again as a seed its duty is mission critical- it must perpetuate the life cycle of the plant. It is however much closer to the ground, on the tip of a grass stalk. It is within easy reach of any predator strolling by. It contains a good source of energy, like a booster rocket for the new plant as it grows. The grain is full of energy and in a vulnerable position. It was "expensive" for the plant to produce. It is an attractive meal. Its shell offers little protection. Therefore, it has been loaded with toxic proteins to discourage predators- grains are full of enzyme blockers and lectins. You may be surprised to learn that uncooked flour is very toxic- please don't try eating it as you become very sick. And yes, I don't recommend al dente pasta (if one must eat pasta at all)."

    if you're interested.

people damning grains like they r teh devil are every bit as retarded as those who think wheat germ(or anything else for that matter) is a 'miracle food'.

Just a fyi, Bruce Lee consumed wheat germ twice a day. Of course, nutrition differed back then.

For every straight-up answer one person will give you, 5 billion other people will give you the opposite. Find what nutrition works best for you. Me? All my carbs come from fruit and vegetables, and I've never felt better. However, rediculous amounts of people do amazingly on grains. Find what works for YOU. Give it a try.

Bruce Lee was awsome for what he did but he by all means did not have a large muscular body. Strong as hell for what he did have though.
