Motivation
How do you guys get motivated to go to the gym atleast 3 times a week? Heck! I have BB and DB's at home and im to lazy to pick them up ><.
I really want to get into the habit of going to the gym regularly, at school i think to my self (I promise i will go to the gym today, i'm will not be tired and i will not go home and fall asleep on the couch). It never works, i usually end up doing the opposite!
How do you get motivated?
p.s. I also don't understand how school kids can afford to bulk... i mean atleast 3500 calories a day and around 260-230g of protien! Thats like 25 bucks a day or something ~.~

teens in school have parents who provide you with food. look at yourself in the mirror....don't like what you see? that should be motivation enough.

I think it depends on what your diet schedule includes, if u r eating white bread, sugary and saturated fat snacks they will give you no energy making you feel tired all the time. If you get ur veg and fruit in, 5 a day and slow releasing carbs like oatmeal, wholewheat pasta and brown rice and wholemeal bread and also add some efa's like salmon which will boost ur metabolism but give u plenty of energy. You are obviously not overtraining or u could be on a low carb diet which will make you very weak and tired, thats all i can suggest!

Everyone always says that one when talking about motivation. Everyone says to call yourself worthless and weak and that'll get you motivated, but it's the opposite for me.
I look in the mirror and say to myself "Man, you're looking ripped. What girl could resist you?" And than I have a good workout. I guess some people are just respond better to different methods.
Also, to the O/P, when you get home NEVER lie down first. Have something light to eat, maybe look up some bodybuilding video's for a few minutes, half an hour max, and then hit the gym. Once you get horizontal, there's no way you're going to have a good gym session.

once you get into it, you'll start to enjoy it.
exercising's a bit like smoking - a lot of people hate it at first, but after a while they start to like it and crave more and more.

Yeah. This is true. I always look forward to going to the gym now. I really enjoy deadlifts for some reason.
Also, I find that lifting's more enjoyable if you lift for slightly higher reps (8-10). Too bad I'm on Rippetoes.

I know lots of people that say just having a quick power-nap helps them, but it doesn't work for me. If I fall asleep and I don't stay asleep for the next 8 hours I'll be drowsy and grumpy for the rest of the day.

While your on the couch take five minutes to think of what you would really want to look like also think about the workout of that day if its biceps (think about working on those biceps) Now you probably still wont be motivated so get up and do some scretches and after those scretches run in place for 5 minutes or take a quick jog. Now crank about as many pushups as you can and just the pump from trying to beat the other days record of pushups will have you bouncing off walls. GO LIFT THE WEIGHTS. If you still dont want to lift get a motivational quote that you can yell on those last few reps of the set and repeat through the entire workout. Always have music on it will get you much farther.
Hope it helps man. If you still cant workout after all this mabey working out isnt your thing.

You get motivated by knowing you're doing something good to your body.
Or you could be like most people and put on some ACDC and kick those weights' ass! Thats is motivation!

wow, it's amazing how different we are.
whilst i also love deadlifts, i find lifting more enjoyable when you lift in the lower rep ranges, due to the poundages you can move. makes me feel good when i go to the gym the next week and my strength is up.
i agree with you about not looking at yourself critically though - i find self-satisfaction and compliments more motivating than calling myself worthless or weak. when i get compliments, i know that all my hard work and discipline is paying off and not going unnoticed - this makes me want to lift more and more. on Wednesday i got a compliment at college, and i had a much better workout - i was feeling pleased with myself, and i had a great workout because of this.

I agree, when you feel good you're more inclined to want to do it. Especially if you like how you look and want to either maintain it or better it.

This is a long term goal, and whether I actually compete or not doesn't matter, I would just like to be able to say I could do it, and do well, should I ever decide to. I'm in much better shape than in my avatar, but unforunately I can't update my pics as I can't load new ones onto my computer. I'll keep trying.

Exactly. I go into the gym and am motivated by all the lazy people there, sitting down or not breaking a sweat. I also look at guys bigger than me and call them pussies(in my head, of course), and tell myself I'll be bigger in a year.

I find it's motivating to be checked out in the gym.
If I catch a girl looking at me doing squats I'm motivated for the rest of the session. Even if it's a guy I still feel motivated - even though I'm not into that sort of stuff, it's still a compliment.
I love doing heavy dead's and pulling "the face" like it's an impossible lift that only I can do. And wiping sweat off my face constantly and drinking gallons of water, to prove to everyone that my work-out is so much mroe intense than theirs.

I just started working out, but I like thinking of all the things I want to improve, and that usually makes me want to work out. But I do this all the time, and want to work out a lot more than I can, since Im on riptoe's Ive been working out 3x a week.
I also like browsing through these forums, watching UFC, or another type of fighting, or something like that.
I agree though, if you lay down right away, you wont wanna get up.Before I started working out I would get home from school, and watch tv while lying on the couch for a few hours. Now I get home and have a snack, play a little basketball, then workout, or something like that.
As for paying for food, I personally dont use any supplements, but if your parents wont support that, I suggest getting a job. When I had to pay for things on my own, I got a job. Even if your not 16, and "cant get a job" or soemthing like that, you can, just look around. My first job was washing dishes, I got paid under the table (no taxes) and I was 15. Last summer I was doing yardwork for neighbors, just look around.

My motivation is imagining how big I'll be in a year from now and telling myself that I have to lift weights and eat right for it too happen. Another thing that motivates me is not wanting to be skinny or just "average" like everyone else walking around. I want to stand out in a crowd, not blend in.

short term goals... loud music. I just recently discovered rage against the machine. Today I worked out for 1.5 hours and didn't wanna stop. But I had to because of work. "Angry" music usually does it. I used to listen to rap, and still usually do, but it doesn't even come close to getting me motivated.
