"a2g squats" and "bulgarian squats"...
i'm only a beginner so I was wondering if anyone could give me some explainations for what these squats entailed and how they differed from each other and from normal squats???
also are there lots of other 'types' of squats that I don't know of? I've never actually included squats in my workout yet so I'm just getting started.
Cheers!

Alinta, my dear: I will go easy on you because your avatar is so captivating!
when I typed "Bulgarian Squats" into my browser box, this is the first site is offered me:
http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=473323
this will explain it for you, but you could have done that as simple as I did...and , I wont lie, I had never heard of Bulgarian squats before, so this is a revelation to me.....
ATG squats are simply going as far below parallel as you can.....

If you are new to squatting you don't need squat variations, your best bet would be to learn the basic movement first, and get good at that before worrying about other things.

ever the sane approach by Canadian: I was too busy harping on my "looking it up yourself" trip, so that I missed the obvious comment that should have been made........

I usually do some squat form/quad isolation work on bicep day for a little resfresher for my lower body between leg days (4 day split).
I read this thread before going to the gym and decided to do 3 sets of box squats then try 3 sets of those bulgarian squats, during my bi/back workout. After the third set of eight slow, controlled reps, I felt a new level of pain in my quads I had never felt before and thought I was gonna puke.
Awsome exercise! Try it out.

bulgarion squats are a really good addition to regular squats. it focuses mostly on the glutes and the VMO. its also a really good individual leg strengthener, unlike regular squats where your dominant leg could get stronger faster.
but as canadian said, might as well stick to regular squats if you dont know what you're doing.
